Ep 01: Heidi and Tim Are Back - (Series Premiere) Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn welcome 12 designers to New York City and tell them to pack their bags because their first fashion show will be in front of the Eiffel tower in Paris. In their first assignment, the designers must create a two-look brand snapshot. Well damn. There's a lot of overdesigned....dreck walking down the runway. A lot of designing has to do with picking proper fabric and some of these outfits look cheap. With that said, there's some gold sprinkled here and there.
LOL at the blissfully bitchy facial expressions of Naomi Campbell and French Vogue lady! Also, I'm tired of Nicole Ricjie saying "I'll wear that" all of the time.
Yay at the winner. The loser deserved to go home as her look, while pretty was also vulgar as hell. And I would have sent the second person home as well as their work was extremely juvenile and not in a fun Barbie way.

How is it? Worth watching? And do you like it better than Next in Fashion?

Critical I'm in Chicago. They released the first two episodes early, like 4 hours. I watched it after Top Chef. beerbelly It's worth a watch, I think. Talent is very uneven. I would say right now it's in the middle of Next in Fashion and Project Runway. Not everyone gets a critique; they basically call 2 people up who are on the bubble of staying and going and the winner and ask them to explain their work. What they tell the judges can either make their decision stay the same, or change their mind.

How on earth did Holly Hobby Martha get cast on this show? That was some Rainbow Brite-type stuff. Fashion? Nope. Her aesthetic is so unsophisticated and so far beneath any of the rest of the designers. Her work did not look like it even belonged on a runway. I mean, Hester Sunshine used bright colors and prints, but her designs were well-made and interesting. Martha's were pretty pedestrian, IMO.
The right person did go home this week. Jasmine's dresses weren't even designed. As one of the judges said during the runway show, it was just fabric.
The one thing I can see not liking, moving forward, is the reliance on the seamstresses being able to interpret the instructions the designers leave. I felt like there might have been a language barrier there with respect to Esther's design and how she wanted something sewn. That felt a bit unfair. Obviously, she rose above those problems, but I can see that happening again and a designer not having enough time to come back from it.
I appreciated hearing the judges' comments during the runway show, although it felt odd that we heard NOTHING when Esther's were on the runway. I liked how the judges critiqued the looks in the end, although I wouldn't have minded hearing about more of the looks than just the few they singled out.
Definitely thought Esther deserved the win. I loved both looks, but especially the pantsuit.

It will take me a bit to get used to some aspects of this show, but I will never get used to what Heidi wears: just the weirdest things! The setting was gorgeous, and I can imagine how thrilling it would be to show in Paris by the light of the Eiffel Tower. Wow. And a million dollar prize this time is quite something! They are lucky designers to be there! I hope some of these designers step it up in order to deserve that million. I couldn't believe how many basic designs there were! Even the one that won, made in two hours so that really was impressive, was still a relatively basic design. Pretty, though. I liked the stripey looks by the Korean American girl and thought those took more thought and work to create than a lot of the other looks. Then, there was a look with a stick in the shoulder! I would've liked to hear something more about that. The elimination process seemed awkward to me. I didn't like how they all just stood around, gathered in the corner, waiting to hear their name. The judges sit in a line right in the workroom, and then after hearing from the designer, they tell Heidi if they've changed their minds about their decision. It was uncomfortable.

I liked hearing the judges' comments on the runway, but I didn't like not hearing them discuss them further. I also thought we could have seen a little more of each design, especially since they didn't discuss very many.
The questions from Heidi to the judges were weird, asking if they had changed their minds.
I thought Esther did a good job of pulling that dress together in 2 hours, and it did look a lot like the picture and what she described to Tim. I wish we had seen her giving credit to her fellow designer who helped her sew. Hopefully she did give credit but it wasn't edited in.

That's one of the things I really liked about Next in Fashion on Netflix. You KNOW the judges on PR are having little convos during the runway on that show and I wish we could hear it. It's not like they're hiding the outcome from the viewers: most of the time, we know which garments are crap and which ones aren't.
As to the judges changing their minds....I don't know. Maybe I'll have a better idea of how I feel about that when one of them does change their minds and explains why Maybe after seeing something close up and talking to a designer, they will get a better appreciation for the work OR decide the garment(s) aren't as good as they looked on the runway.

Critical, I also liked that about Next in Fashion. Another thing I like is that they are selling the accessible garments after, so we get to see designs that regular people would wear.

Glad to find it. Not happy that they are only dropping one episode a week it looks like. Liked seeing Tim and Heidi together they have good chemistry and play off each other well. Nice to see a different location. I was surprised to see them in Paris. Very little bitchiness and drama. Glad to see that the designers have professional seamstresses to help. However for the ones who can't sew and can't pattern make what do they do all day as it looks as if the designers have a good 8, 10, or more hours of time in the design studio?
Also can someone explain to me why designers who are supposedly into clothes many, many, do not work with color or pattern. Isn't that limiting yourself. Isn't that boring? Doesn't that showcase that you are not a complete designer? You are a fabric artist embrace it all.
Enjoyed hearing the judges comments during the runway. They ripped Jasmine.
The best part of the show next to seeing Tim again is seeing models that are real models and toned and can walk. The Project Runway and Next in Fashion ones were not looking so good.
