Opposing Forces - In front of the oldest temple in Tokyo, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn give the remaining six designers a futuristic assignment - create two looks based on the concept of opposing forces. They will then showcase their looks in an immersive, digital fashion experience. The pressure of the competition threatens to derail one designer, while another takes a risky step outside of their comfort zone.
Eps 5 and 6 are available to watch now.
Enjoy the show!

Glad to see Esther finally make a break through with her designer and with herself. So glad to see her try the gold fabric, I wish it had been a better dress but her explanation to the judges only helped her.
I thought Sander was being a bit of a brat. All these designers are creative people and should be able to do anything and they are the first ones to expose their right to be different and going out of bounds but if pushed by the judges they become these rigid boxed in thinkers having hissy fits.
It was so obvious who the top three were, Johnny, Esther, and Sander and I was thinking Oh No for Megan, Ji, and Rinat. Megan saved herself with the white pants outfit. Ji barely saved herself with her Korean Hanbok outfit. Rinat had issues with both outfits. It was nice to see Naomi fight for Rinat. But it is not all bad, didn't Rinat win the streetwear challenge and do a co-brand look with Puma?

i was sad to see Rinat go, but those designs were pretty bad. No matter how talented she is, she didn't rise to the challenge.
I didn't like Ji's designs either. The coat was just "meh" and that dress was so unflattering.
I think Naomi is happy Nicole isn't there any more. She seemed to be in a better mood these last few episodes.
I would have picked Jonny over Sander in this challenge. I also really loved Megan's houndstooth coat. Just stunning.

Naomi talks with Nicole about Making the Cut on her new podcast show on youtube. Naomi said she doesn't like reading comments about her criticism on the show. I like Naomi's new podcast show. She might get tired of doing it.
Ji Won's blue dress was unflattering. I think the designers did a bang up job of making Japanese outfits.

I did think it was cool how Sander had the T-shirt "arms" on the skirt that then became pockets. I think mostly the judges wanted to reward him for doing something that was still creative but also wearable. I don't remember Megan doing a houndstooth coat. I thought her outfits were both all white (with the runway look having the silver, too). Was her houndstooth coat from a different episode?

I got interrupted in the middle of writing that post and got Megan and Jonny's things mixed up in the post. I loved Megan's white suit, especially the coat. I was sort of proud of her for really pushing herself. I didn't love the silver part on her gown, but that suit was stunning.

Somehow it didn't occur to me that you meant Jonny. His coat was cool!

I actually liked Jonny's coat more than the every day look, which isn't something I would wear. That coat was fabulous. I'd totally wear that.
I read a post on a MTC FB page about how Esther was terrible because she wouldn't adapt to the challenges. I totally disagree. I think she's done a pretty good job of fulfilling challenges while maintaining her brand. That's kind of the whole point.
For me, the top designers are Esther, Jonny and maybe Megan/Sander. I think Esther seems the most ready for what comes after a win. I just love how her black clothing is anything but simple. I'd totally wear her stuff if I could afford it!

But it is not all bad, didn't Rinat win the streetwear challenge and do a co-brand look with Puma? I love Esther. I totally understand her not wanting to change her brand, but it was getting a little old seeing nothing but a sea of black. At least when she did the gold dress, though, she put some thought in it and actually embraced the challenge. I like her attitude.
I couldn't agree more about Sander. I spent most of that episode thinking, "Well, I guess I misspoke about this show not having a Sergio!" Most of the big-name designers now do a ready-to-wear line, as well. If you're going to be "the next global brand," then you'd better be thinking beyond just the red carpet. Many of these designers think they are geniuses who are so "out of the box" with their thinking, and yet when pressed to truly do something out of the box, they fold like a piece of discarded cloth. You may produce great looking clothes, but for a me a true creative genius is someone who could design anything and make it look good. My favorite challenge on PR was the one where Anya left her fabric back at Mood. She literally only had some muslin and some scraps the other designers gave her when they were done. And yet she produced the winning outfit for that challenge. Bingo.
I personally want Johnny or Esther to win. I think they are the only ones who, at this point, are capable of becoming the Next Big Thing. They know exactly who they are, what their forte is when designing, and who their customers are. Speaking of which, I absolutely loved Johnny's looks in this episode. Now that was creativity. He didn't fuss and throw a fit. He simply found a way to incorporate his signature leather into a new kind of look. Of course, I'm biased since I love the houndstoooth pattern.
I've heard about that robot cafe before. Several years ago in a travel magazine they mentioned it in an article on "Top Places to See in Tokyo." However, the writer said there was a waiting list a mile long for a reservation, so it was cool getting to see it.

I've friends who were lucky enough to visit the robot cafe, and it's crazy as hell and fun.
That houndstooth coat Johnny designed was pure perfection and I want it. I pretty much liked everyone's looks except for Ji's second design and both of Rinat's. While I liked the skirt on the Hasidic look she created I didn't like the rest of it, and I completely hated the Buddhist look.
At this point, I'm rooting for Sander, Esthar, and Johnny and hope they have a three person final.

Johnny's houndstooth coat was my favorite look this episode and I was surprised it wasn't the accessible look. I would have preferred he won over Sander.
I understand why Rinat was sent home, but I wish she could have stayed.

My guess is the reason why Johnny's coat didn't win was that it was too intricate and expensive for them to recreate. So far, most of the winning outfits that have been on the site are made out of polyester, and people on the FB group for the show who have bought items have complained about the clothes looking really cheap. Esthar is offering that awesome dress she made in Episode 4 on her website for 325 euros but the material is viscose and it appears to be well-made.
