Week Five / Semi-Finals - After a tough round of judging and tearful goodbyes, the final four couples Bri and Chris, Jamie and Trevor, Rudi and Matt, and Natascha and Ryan take their relationships and performing talents to Las Vegas, traveling by luxury tour buses.
Well, the 1st hour has been kinda boring, with the requisite conversations about if they're falling for each other yet, if one's going to say "I love you" or not, blah blah blah. But I think their rides in the tour buses to Las Vegas looked fun! Matt and Rudi somehow got them to stop overnight at some little motel in the desert, to spend additional alone time.
Jamie advised Rudi to express her feelings for Matt, and then on her date with Trevor was planning on telling him she loves him. Well, Trevor tries to head her off early, explaining he's only said that to two people in his life, implying she should not hold her breath. As the night goes on, though, and Trevor loves his ice skating date and is "proud" of Jamie, she says she's falling in love with him, and he responds the same. She screams, of course. Much as I like Jamie, she's so young, young-acting, and kind of immature.
Then it's Rudi's turn, and she and Matt go hear Shaggy in concert. They get up on stage and sing "It Wasn't Me" which doesn't seem all that romantic to me! Then in a heart-to-heart afterwards, she says she's falling for him. Sly editing has Matt sitting there silently, and cuts back to Rudi crying. We don't see them talk at all any more.
Natascha and Ryan who have zero romantic chemistry, get a date with big construction vehicles. They kiss and stuff but to me they're much more friends than partners. I wouldn't be surprised if they have agreed, behind the scenes, to fake it to make it. Matt and Rudi should do the same, because they're super talented.
Oh yeah, and Bri and Chris sang for a wedding at the Little White Chapel (who also happened to be of mixed race. Dumb producers!), and of course were super lovey dovey.
Rudi is so over the top I don’t want to like her, but damn! They were good tonight.
I agree -- she's a complete mess on a personal level, but extremely talented!
And it's Natascha and Ryan who are sent home. She feels guilty, and they actually seem like they like each other at the end. Hmm, I was wrong about that apparently!
I thought Rudi and Matthew knocked it out of the park!
The judges seemed very impressed with them. If Matthew returns Rudi's feelings (soon), I can see these two winning. But...as noted, Rudi is a little "extra" and has more invested emotionally than Matthew at this time. The previews for next week show more tears and drama with these two.
Bri and Chris were solid performers as well. Both are talented and seemed to have a strong connection from day one.
Jamie is coming out of her shell. Her voice sounded much stronger last night, and she didn't seem as nervous before their performance. She and Trevor's relationship is evolving as well.
Natascha is a powerhouse. She will go pretty far without any help from Ryan. I don't see that relationship lasting very long now that they've been sent home.
I can't stand Matt. I haven't been able to stand him from the first episode. I don't even like the way he looks. Smarmy. They did sing well at the end.
Once again I was in & out catching only bits & pieces until toward the end. One thing I noticed was that in the personal interviews the men all talk about winning & about performing well, while the women all talk about either falling for their singing partner or "connecting" with them romantically. Big difference in how each are taking this show. These women are in for a big eye opening. The men are using them to get to the end. Not because they are interested in the women romantically. Possible exception: Chris & Bri. There seems to be something real between them, although even there, more her than him.
Once again Matt bugged me big time. When they stayed behind on the trip & then stopped for the night at the motel, I thought: "Yep, he had to make sure he got some before he dumps her." He figured this might be the week he was sent packing, so had to make sure to take care of the only business he wants with Rudi. She's so desperate & pathetic.
There's always another option. You just have to find it.
If this show was about JUST talent, Matt and Rudi would win, hands down. They sounded professional this week. I think they're the only two whose chyrons actually list their profession as musician or singer. The rest have "regular" jobs. They did get the best song to showcase singing voices, but I think they also are the most musically talented. She may be a little nuts, but she's got great stage presence.
I think Natascha has a great voice. She just wasn't a good fit with Ryan, who's also talented in his own way. He's just not a "belter" voice-wise.
Chris and Bri clearly have the strongest relationship, but I don't think they have super strong voices. I find Jamie super annoying. Maybe it's just that she's so immature and blind to how much of a player Trevor is.
