I'm happy, and not surprised at all by the final 5. Luke getting up and banging on the wall for Francisco was a bit much, though.
Dillon's first song was fine, but not outstanding. I like the guy, and give him credit for how far he's come!

Just Sam's song was awesome! It was a great choice for her voice.
I love the song Arthur is singing, and he's putting his unique spin on it. Very cool. You can see how his confidence has grown.

Dillon's voice in his second song, "Times Are a Changin'" was strong. It really showed off his voice in a nice way.
Francisco's song featured his voice nicely too. He's sure a cute guy! (which I think means he'll win due to fangirls voting)

Just Sam's singing "Rise Up" for her second song is amazing. Her voice is so clear and strong. Super talented!

The second song is their "Winner's Single" that they'll release if they win.
Arthur is up, doing a very cool and different "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by CCR. I'm not sure about this being so great for his first release (if he wins), but I do like his voice. (ETA: Katy said the complete opposite: she thinks this version is THE one to release. LOL!)

Aww, the popular and sweet dad garbage man, Douglas, gets to perform on the finale. His audition video has hundreds of millions of views so they invited him on with Rascal Flatts. How cool for him!

Lauren and Sam's "I Believe" was really sweet. I might have teared up a little bit!

For the first time in Idol history, I was happy with the top 5 and ok if any of them won. But I’m glad Sam did. I don’t recall one false note from her during the entire competition. And Como La Flor was her best performance, one I would have expected her to repeat on the finale had this been a normal season.

Congratulations Just Sam! That was a surprise. I’m happy for her but sad that she was all alone for such a big moment. Doug looked really good and sounded great! I’m glad they had him on tonight. We Are the World was rushed. I wish it could have been a bigger part of the show with all the old contestants they managed to get. It should have been earlier in the show. Sam should have had the spotlight at the end.

I agree about "We Are The World" - I wanted to see more of so many of the artists!! I loved the scenery, though, and was touched by the message. That led me to go back and watch the two previous ones (original and Haiti), and wow, those were powerful.
Hooray for JustSam! I'm so happy for her, and loved how they had her grandma there on tablet. I have a feeling Arthur will do just fine, and am happy for him, too to get the recognition. He deserves it! His family was so cute, celebrating like he'd won!
Lots of people online are saying something is wrong with Ryan, after that awkward silence saying goodbye to the three boys. They said his eye was droopy, and think he had a mini-stroke or something. I didn't notice...(shrug)? Did anyone else?

Once again West Coast is screwed with voting. It is over before it even started here.
I don't know why they don't truly make it live with a 5PM performance on west coast. They've done it before. sigh\
I'm recording...I'll watch tomorrow.

I read that sbout Ryan, too, but didn’t notice myself. I was working on a project while I was watching. Maybe I’ll watch his show with Kelly tomorrow and make sure he’s all right. The winner is supposed to be on their show, I think.

I think Arthur's family actually thought he won so once he peels his family off of him, it wil be disappointing to hear that he didn't.
In looking over the top 11, I can see why the final five had just the one girl. All of the others were your stereotypical "ALL American" girl--pretty, long hair and apparently given more than a few advantages. It was hard to distinguish one from the other. Sam stood out in every way and the only music lessons she had were probably at church.
Loved Jonny's last song!!

Ryan is not on his show this morning. Kelly said "Ryan worked late last night on AI and is taking the morning off." That doesn't sound good at all for him as 5-7 pm LA time is not late.

I thought the awkward silence was audio problems. The audio was cutting in and out all night for me. I hope that is all it is and that Ryan is okay.

Nothing on local (LA) or national news (at the moment) about any problems Ryan might have had.

Loved "WE ARE THE WORLD". Everytime they sang the line "It's a choice we're making, we are saving our own lives" I got a chill. How apt today that song is.

I'll have to figure out where else to watch it - On Demand? - as my recording didn't take.
Ryan Seacrest's representative addresses his " problem" on last night's show.
CNN)Ryan Seacrest wants fans to know he's OK.
The TV host released a statement through his rep on Monday after some fans speculated about his health on social media following the "American Idol" finale. Viewers noticed that at one point during Sunday's episode, Seacrest, who hosted remotely from his house during the coronavirus pandemic, appeared to slur his speech and his right eye seemed to be enlarged. Some fans suggested on Twitter that he may have suffered a stroke. However, his rep said that's not the case.
"Ryan did not have any kind of stroke last night," a rep for Seacrest told CNN in an email statement. "Like many people right now, Ryan is adjusting to the new normal and finding work-home balance, with the added stress of having to put on live shows from home." Seacrest, who also is the co-host of "Live with Kelly and Ryan," did not appear on Monday's live broadcast. His rep said he was just "in need of rest" and "took a well-deserved day off."
By the end of the "American Idol" finale, when Just Sam was announced as this season's winner, Seacrest appeared to be back to his normal self. Seacrest has been the host of "American Idol" since the show debuted in 2002. He also hosts a daily morning radio show, "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" and produces several series for E!.

Just Sam has such a warmth about her. Really love that she won this year.
