At my parent's house, they bought a stand-alone freezer and I often miss having that. We could stock it with frozen dinners, meat, and of course it was great for storing holiday leftovers! The freezer compartment in my current refrigerator is bigger than the one in my first refrigerator but still doesn't hold much so it's pretty full. Sometimes I have to go ahead and use something I was saving for later to make room for more stuff in the freezer.
I'm glad this refrigerator has an ice-maker. I hate having to make ice from ice cube trays because it takes so much time and space!

My cats have a chest freezer. It's almost full - of mice, quail, and other kitty delicacies. They let me use whatever room is left.

The one that came with my house when I bought it quit a few years after I bought the house. It was old, like well over 30 years. I've had this one for about 5-10 years. I got exactly what I wanted & needed. Stainless steel, no fuss, no muss, no fancy extras I don't need that take up room & could break down. Just a top freezer with a shelf, adjustable glass shelfs in the refrigerator portion, 2 fruit/veg drawers at the bottom & a meat/cheese one in the middle, and big door shelves. It's a Frigidaire. I figured they've been around longer than me & are well known, so they must be good. I have an upright freezer in the garage too. Around 8 years old. The middle shelf coils need defrosting desperately. How do you defrost the coils when the freezer is full of food?

I liked those old refrigerator/freezers, batchelorwatcher! We had one of those when I was growing up.

Do any of you have refrigerator magnets, dry-erase boards, or pictures on your refrigerator? I used to have some magnets on mine. One was an otter, another was Foghorn Leghorn, then I had one from the city about the trash schedule, lol! An online friend sent me some poker chip magnets when she went to Vegas and another one from South Florida sent me flip flop magnets. Most of them didn't stick really well in the first place and Kit Kat got to playing with them so many of them are missing.
I used to have a magnetized rack for a rolling pin which I put on the side of the refrigerator. I haven't found it since I moved in so it's probably buried in a box of kitchen stuff I never unpacked.
I'm trying to train myself to keep a grocery list on the refrigerator with a magnet so when I find I'm low on something or out of something, I can put it on the list right then and there. I've been hit and miss about that.

Do have some magnets on one side which is exposed.

Mine is a side by side Whirlpool fridge.....bought it 2.5 years ago when we bought the house.
Its great; plenty of room. Stainless steel. Has the ice and water on the door.
Scrolls messages for me on the outside.
Magnets ... I don't like them on the front because I do not like that look.
BUT the side facing into cabinets I have a ton of magnets.
On the temp; my fridge tells me I should keep it at 37.
Its on wheels so its easy to pull in and out to clean underneath.

Back in the Dark Ages when I was a kid, we had a refrigerator with 1 big door on the front & a small metal freezer box inside with it's own little door. The little door didn't close very tightly, so there was always frost all around it. It had a tray underneath that fit metal ice cube trays. They had a weird metal handle on the center of them that you pulled to break up the ice cubes. How on earth Mom kept enough food frozen in that little thing for a family of 6 is completely beyond me. Ice cream alone took up a huge chunk of it. I remember when Mom/Dad got one with a decent size freezer on the top, and it's own door & we were all amazed with all the room.

I remember also the Dark Ages. When none of our fridges or freezers were SELF DEFROSTING. My mom spent a whole day once a month (I believe) defrosting our fridge. Gawd, that was always a messy and annoying and time consuming job. thumbsdown1

Now I'm back to an apartment refrigerator and ever so often notice ice forming around the seal of the freezer door. I haven't had to pull ice off in years. lol

My small chest freezer is not self defrosting. I thought I bought it that way to save money, but when I started to research how I might replace it, I can't find any small self-defrosting freezers. At least none in my area.

I'm trying to train myself to keep a grocery list on the refrigerator with a magnet so when I find I'm low on something or out of something, I can put it on the list right then and there. I've been hit and miss about that. pikachu Do you have a smart phone? I use an app called Out of Milk. I love it. Since my phone is always with me at the store I don't have to remember to bring the list, or it's with me if I unexpectedly take a trip to the store. I even have three different lists, I don't know how many one can have. I have my grocery list, a crafting supply wish list, and a Christmas gift list (that only gets used once a year!) We just have a basic refrigerator, which thankfully is self - defrosting. I wish we had an ice maker but we don't have a good way to hook water up to the fridge anyhow. My husband is of the opinion that the more bells and whistles on something the more there is that will go wrong and break. When it was time to buy a new dryer I had to "insist" on a certain feature and convince him it was necessary lol It was basic too, like how many cycles the dryer had. I have to have a low heat cycle.

THEN it is always with me.

I love that app so much. You can check it off your list as you go through the store and it gets crossed off and drops to the bottom so your list gets smaller and smaller. And then, when you need that item again it will pop up exactly as you typed it, as well as put it in the correct category if you've assigned it (via editing) (I have different stores as my categories.) So my shampoo that I always buy at Sally's will automatically jump under the Sally's heading now whenever I start to type it in and click on it. -does that make sense?
There is a new feature where it figures out what they think the category should be (ie lettuce automatically will go into a produce category) but that's not the way I use the app and thankfully those can be deleted off your lists. But I'm sure a lot of people like that feature.

Not big enough! What else is there to say? ;^) I added several additional shelves to both my refrigerator and freezer. Amazingly, doing that seems to have increased their storage capacity by at least 30% if not more. And I just used those adjustable shelves you can buy at any hardware store or on Amazon.com. So easy that even I could do it with no problem!
