80s Night - The ballroom is rad and tubular for '‘80s Night' when 12 celebrity and pro-dancer couples compete.
Enjoy the show!

OMG. Tyra is in a gold lame jumpsuit. She looks like a gold Jiffy Pop bag.
She explains about the technical error last week, and says the correct result came out in the end "and THAT's what matters." (Her way of telling Twitter to shut up)

Tyra’s going to take a header down those stairs one of these weeks. 80s. Ugh.

The show should be arrested for the way they just ruined Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World".
Jesse is meh, gets 6's.

Crishelle & Gleb were fun but C-A says there wasn't enough cha cha content. Derek & Bruno gives feet pointing pointers. 6-6-7.
So far the costumes for the guys are making them look more like 80s serial killers than 80s icons. It's all mullets and mustaches.

Jesse and Sharna score 19
Better than last week, but mistakes were made. Jesse seems to hold back, he looks better in rehearsal

I love Jeannie. She & Brandon are doing Like A Virgin as Jazz, with a bathtub as a prop.
It's lots of fun with lots of lifts and spins.
8-8-8

Are jazz and waltz the only dances they can do to 80s music?

Johnny's dance was fantastic, I agree with the 10s! I'm finally catching up with this show, but missed some of the first dancers ... so didn't vote for those. Got my votes in for the others, though, before it closed! Tyra's leprechaun-colored outfit is not flattering. The dancer's outfits/styling are so over the top! My goodness!

I enjoyed a lot of the dances. Sasha is a brave, brave man to wear that lycra onesie with the plunging neckline, but it was so quintessentially '80s. Hilarious! Vernon looked like an '80s rock god in that wig and those pants and scarf! Youza! Jeannie was a very cute Madonna!
Johnny's and Nev's dances were fabulous, and Nelly really came out of his shell and rocked that samba! Very fun! I think they purposely over-scored Monica to make sure she didn't go home.
I know a lot of you didn't enjoy the '80s theme, but I got a kick out of it. Everything was so tacky back then. Gotta laugh at it!

I'm probably the only person who cares about this, but it annoyed me that they made it seem like Jacques D'Amboise was just some dance teacher. He is a dance LEGEND. An ICON. The was a principal dancer at New York City Ballet under George Balanchine - Balanchine choreographed ballets on him. He also was a choreographer at NYCB as well. In addition, he danced in some of the most iconic movie musicals of all time, including Carousel and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. He also received a MacArthur Fellowship and the Kennedy Center Honors, among many other awards. The show made it seem like it was the equivalent of someone's second grade teacher popping in and I felt like I had to give him his due. Sorry. Dance nerd. Had to do it
The show is actually tolerable with Tyra muted.
I have to laugh at some of the celebs talking about growing up in the 80s, when they were like 8. I lived ALL of the 70s, but I was a kid. I actually GREW UP in the 80s. If you were still playing with Barbies or Matchbox cars when the decade ended, you didn't grow up then
ITA, MFWalkoff - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is my all-time favorite song and they ruined it, not only musically, but by that dance.
The 80s was such a rich decade, musically, and it always bums me out to see it reduced to cliches
My favorites this week were Nev and Johnny, although giving Johnny Contemporary seemed like a "gimme." How could he have NOT done well? I was also impressed with Kaitlyn. Once again, there's no clear front runner, which makes it fun to watch.

It really was a rich decade musically! Do many amazing artists and songs!
I haven't watched the actual show yet, and I'm not a dance nerd, but even I know that Jacques d'Amboise was a big deal. And so handsome! I remember him. That's too bad that the show didn't make a big deal about him! I look forward to seeing him when I watch!

Some thoughts
I also was shocked when they showed Jacques as the person who did the dance program as they did not give him his due.
No front runner---I agree. A lot of very good dancers this season which shows it makes no difference if we don't know who the celebs are when they announce the cast. I am in it for the dancing.
The costumes continue to be more modest than we have ever seen, and I- for one- like it that way.
Speaking of costumes, Tyra was up to three--each one more ugly than the last. I cannot fathom why she is dressing so badly.
I thought johnny's contemporary was very good but certainly in his wheelhouse as a skater.

I finally watched last week's show right before this week's so I could see where there was SOME improvement but not as much as they said, or would make one believe. Nelly's Paso last week was one of the, if not THE, worst I have ever seen.. till Anne's.. but this week I was still very MEH but I could see he was more comfortable. I am ready for him to go at this point and I am not a fan of his partner.
My faves at this point are Nev, Jenna is the perfect partner for him and damn she has some skills when it comes to choreography too! (LOVED his Jack on Disney week), Justina because well she is too freaking cute and love her partner, Jeannie just because she is so fun to watch (lover her partner too) and I guess Skai, she is a good dancer but her size (even with Alan who is not the tallest in his own right) is somewhat distracting. I do not dislike any of the others, well Johnny does become tooo much at times and yes his dance last night was a gimmie, but he will be around for a bit I feel.
Some of the tangos felt rushed to me, I don't know if that is the best way to say it but they were "off" in some way.. maybe it is is the camera angles?? They are all over the place this season and make me dizzy with how there is no transition that feels natural. I think I noticed it last week or the week before but last night it was bad for me.
As far as Tyra, I don't have much to say that has not been said at this point, the outfits are a bit much each week, but I DID like (and I feel dirty saying this) the second one from last night, more like that please.. simply because it was not unflattering to her body type and colouring.

Monica and Val - tango. I don't feel any chemistry between these two. Monica seems a little wooden to me.. Score 26..2 9's..sorry, I didn't feel it was worth that score Finally getting around to watching last weeks dances and I TOTALLY agree with you on this one! Her knees were stiff throughout the whole dance and her arms were sort of already extended when she'd stick them out, so there was no motion to the moves. And her face was just the blankest slate I've seen in a long time.
