Can anyone tell me what the unauthorized lift was in the Jive that Kaitlyn lost a point for? Are lifts forbidden in the Jive? Both of the times she left the ground looked like normal Jive things to me. Regarding, Nelly, he's not the best dancer, but I really enjoy watching him perform. He has a heart about him that touches me. I'm not watching this season (no Tom, no Erin, no Cuddles) but I stumbled on to this this morning so I came into this thread to see if anyone was discussing it. Artem Says it Feels Personal
I have always felt that CA often singles out a woman and makes it her personal goal to dump on her no matter what. She can be toxic...

Seems like she always does it with the caveat that she's only trying to help them, she sees potential and she wants to push them... on and on. I've never really understood her logic.

Yeah. Last week, she added the extra dig of telling Kaitlyn it was "another poor performance," when Kaitlyn has mostly been at the top of the leaderboard. It's weird. And that lift thing read bonkers!

The lift thing was bonkers! Carrie Ann explained it by asking Kaitlyn if she could do the move herself....that if Kaitlyn couldn’t do the move herself without Artem’s help, then Carrie Ann was calling it a lift.
I don’t remember any of the judges ever bringing up that kind of thing up before.

These people don't dance professionally, it's her stupid way, to make herself important. I usually don't listen to the judges, but I can see that Derek sees potential in Kaitlyn, and gives her advice..the lift police should be shut down imho..

I must have been fast forwarding over Tyra’s blather and accidentally cut off Carrie Ann’s previous comments on this. I do keep a heavy hand on the FF button when watching this show.

MrCoz came in last night as I was finishing my viewing of the episode. Tyra was blathering on. He does not really ever watch the show, but has seen snippets over the years. I don't think he realized she was the new host, but commented that she needed to slow down and take a breath. Then I said I couldn't believe that they replaced Tom for her. His eyes got big and he asked something like why had they replaced someone sophisticated and witty and good at that job with her!
I liked Nev and Justina as usual. I like Nelly, but it's getting to be time for him to go. I liked Chrishelle too, but it was only going to be a matter of time with her if she hadn't left this week. She was improving, but not at the same level as others.
CA was ridiculous with that lift police thing. They're allowed to drag each other, which surely isn't a move they can do themselves. I really thought their trick kind of fell in that category. As much as she generally bugs me with that I do understand it. They should follow the rules. However, she's been consistent over the years with enforcing it. This seemed a little further than normal though even for her.

This seemed a little further than normal though even for her. The truth is that CA doesn't have a background in ballroom. I mean, she was a Fly Girl! She locked onto this lift thing as an easy way to seem like an expert - all she needed to remember was which dances allowed lifts. Now it's coming off as stupid and petty.
She went after Hannah HARD last season. Maybe she just hates The Bachelorette franchise.....or got turned down for the show herself
If they're going to do a changing of the guards with Len to Derek (which I actually wouldn't hate - I like Derek much more as a judge than a pro), maybe it's time to dump Carrie too. I saw that Cheryl was considering retiring. She'd be a nice replacement for CA. I do still enjoy Bruno in all his kookiness, but I wouldn't miss CA at all. Then they can give Tyra the boot too! We've had several good substitute hosts over the years - grab up Drew Lachey and maybe another former "star" as co-hosts and get Tyra OUT!

I did just look it up, and Jive doesn't allow lifts, but I swear I've seen people on the show do moves like Kaitlyn and Artem did and no one said anything. CA wasn't wrong from a technical perspective, but I'm not sure it was right to call them on it.

There is another dance similar to jive that is all lifts and throws - swing dancing. Were they doing something like that and not a true jive? I remember Len getting after people for putting swing into their jives.
