AJLT just got renewed for a third season. I have mixed feelings. I do think this season has been better than the first, but I also don't like it when shows outstay their welcome. I don't want to grow to hate all of these characters. I read an interview with Sara Ramirez where they slammed people who were critical of Che, as if it was bigotry against a non-binary character. I have to say, NO, that's not it. Che is just kind of an a-hole. I liked the scenes with them at the vet office and with that girl who brought in the kittens. I HATED the stand-up set where they were nasty about Miranda and that whole thing with them sending Cameos to people and recording them in bed. I wouldn't like ANY character who acted like that. I also don't think their stand-up is funny. Maybe they should have gotten a good stand-up comedian to write their act (I'm assuming they didn't, because if they did, that's not a good stand-up). I love Sara Ramirez, but I could take or leave Che. It bums me out, because I loved Sara on Grey's Anatomy and on Madam Secretary. I was excited when they announced Sara had been cast....and then the character turned out to be annoying. Apparently, that focus group for the sitcom was based on something that happened with season one. I saw a comment online and I agreed that, it would have been better if they'd made Che a singer. Sara has an incredible voice.
I also don't know that I want to watch Carrie hurt Aiden, but as MFW pointed out, Carrie in a happy relationship isn't so interesting.

AJLT: So it turns out Aiden was the one hurting Carrie, as I predicted. But it was a soft letdown, a promise to recommit in... five years??? I figured Aiden would go back to Virginia because his kids need him, and he should. But putting a five-year pause on their relationahip is kind of delusional. But writing-wise, it's a way to let Aiden disappear next season until he or Carrie meets someone else and has an awkward phone call...
I am SHOCKED that Kim Catrall agreed to have such a lovey-dovey phone call scene with SJP, considering their bitter relationship over the years (allegedly). But it was a sweet gesture. And it leaves the door open for the future. And it really showed how Samantha's presence is REALLY missed on this show. Seems like everybody else's stories were about healing, which was nice. (Well Anthony's was about experiencing some pain before the healing, but still) Looking forward to next season!

I don't know. I'm on the fence about that. Yes, his kids are the most important thing, but does that mean that he allow his son to dictate his entire life? He's a child. I mean, at least Aiden isn't getting back with his ex because his kid wants them back together, but allowing your kid to dictate your dating life seems like bad parenting. This isn't a case of Aiden wanting to date around and bring lots of women home. It's, presumably, a committed relationship. I'm also not an advocate of staying in a bad marriage for your kids. I think the construct of Aiden's life bring in Virginia and Carrie's like being in NYC means this relationship was never going to work longterm.
Unless they jump ahead a few years, I doubt we'll see 5 years pass on this series. I wonder if we'll see Aiden again. I also wonder what man is going to show up next season to turn Carrie's head and make her forget about Aiden. While Carrie in a settled relationship isn't great on this show, Carrie moping around isn't great either. We saw that after Big died; we don't need it again after Aiden's departure.
Carrie getting a kitten made her at least 50% more likeable. Through the whole party sequence I was wondering where Shoe was.
I'm glad Nya met someone, but I can't look at Gary Dourdain and not think about his crazy mugshots from back in the day.
I'm glad Che apologized to Miranda but NO, those jokes weren't funny.
ITA that the scene with Samantha showed that her absence on this series is a problem. I don't think Kim would come back. I think she's done. The fact that her requirements for filming that scene were that she wouldn't come into ANY contact with the three ladies or Michael Patrick King means nothing is forgiven or forgotten. This show is still enjoyable, but it's never going to be as good as it could be without her.

Agreed on Samantha -- the only new character who is as brash and bold as she was is Che, but Che isn't at all likeable at this point. I'm wondering if she's still going to be a regular next season. I mean they teased this new relationship she's in, but I wonder how much screen time fans will want them to devote to that if Che isn't invovled in either Miranda's or Carrie's lives. She's kind of outlived her usefulness. Maybe this new relationship was the show giving her a happy sendoff... I definitely don't think Kim Cattrall would ever come back, but they at least left it open for more phone calls from across the sea, so here's hoping. The whole thing with Aiden's kid... I just think it was lazy writing on the show's part. They knew Aiden was only going to be around this season, so they had to concoct a reason why he & Carrie couldn't make it work, even though they were delirious happy together. When Aiden added that they found drugs in his kid's system, I think that was their way of indicating that the problems were deeper than just being jealous of a new girlfriend, and that the kid needed a deeper level of care and treatment (not to mention he's immobile for the next month or two with a broken collarbone and 2 broken legs). But they didn't fill in enough of the background story to make it seem logical. If I was Carrie and Aiden came up with this 5-year plan, I wouldn't buy it. The one good line they gave Carrie in that scene was "I can't believe we're here again" which mirrored what Aiden said the 2nd time they broke up. They were simply never meant to be. And Carrie did NOT make a mistake getting back with Big. She had 18 happy years with him, and best of all, we didn't have to watch most of it. But killing Big was the smartest thing they could do in order to have some kind of story to tell for Carrie. So getting her back with Aiden would be a really dumb thing to do. Luckily the rest of Carrie's old boyfriends weren't memorable enough to bring back... Berger? Carrie would never. Petrovsky? He's 73 now. Definitely not the jazz musician with ADHD, I always skip those episodes. It's time to stop reminiscing and create new stories.

Oh, dear. It was great seeing Samantha back. I truly wish things could work out so that she could come back even with the social history.
I wish that there was an attempt to write Che with more humanity than just glimpses of it. They already receive hate for having the nerve to be non-binary, so pretty much anything they do can be perceived as a slight. Che doesn't have to be perfectly kind and nice, but having them be a well-rounded human being wouldn't hurt. No one likes an a$$hole.
Seema- love her. She comes across as chic, expensive, and just so elegant.
Overall, I liked this season better. I really like Aidan and am a finishipper for him and Carrie.

I just saw a little article about how SJP adopted "Shoe," real name Lotus. He joins two siblings that were adopted just over a year ago. Some people have been saying that Carrie doesn't seem like a cat person, but SJP is.

I have to say it's really good seeing Gary Dourdan thrive because he was really struggling for a while. He looks clean, handsome, and happy now.

AMC is doing some sort of crossover with Max for the months of September and October and I'm currently watching the rest of the Intervew With A Vampire series. It's so good, I watched the first episode on a free AMC preview and really enjoyed it, but didn't want to pay for AMC+.

If you end up finding enough stuff on AMC+ that you'd like to watch, they generally run pretty good deals. IIRC, I got a year for $20 or $25. It was near the end of the year, so maybe a holiday special. Totally worth it, but then I'm a Walking Dead fanatic.

Watching the Donyale Luna documentary and it's absolutely heartbreaking. She was the first Black Supermodel and went through all sorts of horrible things, no wonder she...lost touch with reality. She was so beautiful and a light, and her story is so sad.

I'm five minutes into Katrina Babies, and I'm already sad. Wild how it's been almost 20 years.
