Who has started a free trial? I did, and went through all the show choices, and marked my favorites...
It will be good to see some older shows that haven't been around for a while like Cutthroat Kitchen and Nate & Jeremiah and Ace of Cakes, and the Planet Earth / Blue Planet shows, etc.
But I don't know if the selection will be enough for me to keep subbing for a long time. What do y'all think?

I'm still debating because I really don't want to pay for yet another streaming service. I'll probably check out the free trial, though.

The main reason I went ahead for now is that it's relatively cheap -- 4.99 with ads, 6.99 unlimited with no ads.
Meanwhile my Netflix is going up to $13.99 next month...

I'm really considering it. I love Animal Planet and Sling doesn't have that channel. Also, not all the episodes of different shows are available on Demand and I like to watch vintage Property Brothers, Design Star, and other programming. The exclusive content looks good too. 6.99 with no ads is still a good deal, are the ads intrusive and frequent?

I'm glad this thread was started. I'd like to read other people's opinions about its worthiness and what they enjoy. It's not a lot of money, but a waste if there's nothing good to watch on it. I'm a big fan of the 90 Day and Married at First Sight programs and will appreciate knowing what others think of the new versions.

I saw a link to a portion of 90-Day's Brandon and Julia that was available on Discovery+ but not on regular TLC.
No thanks. If I wanted to watch inappropriate sexual behavior on TV, I'd subscribe to a porn channel.

Before covid, we were going to drop our cable and go streaming but we haven't been able to get into the place. I also worried about losing some of my favorite channels, this might be worth it.

Okay, signed up for the 4.99/m and I must say the commercials on the service are heavily curated. I barely noticed them, and there's not a ton of them to sit through between show segments.

I found some Discovery + shows on Hulu - not any new stuff and NO Battlebots, but I'll hold off until after I cut the cable for good, maybe.

That Bobby and Giada show is really good. I had no idea that Giada was from Rome. Very fun show which takes them from Rome to Tuscany either preparing or eating different types of Italian foods, and Italy never looked better.

I have some of the other streaming services (YouTube TV, HBO Max, Disney+, Hulu, ESPN... some of that is packaged together) and thought about adding Discovery+, but then decided I get enough of my favorite Discovery shows via the services I have that I chose to not get it. I am interested in hearing others who have it and what value they get from it. Maybe I will change my mind once I hear more about it.

In an interesting move Food Network's Restaurant Impossible is moving over to Discovery+ effective immediately. They're not the only ones; Property Brothers Forever Home and certain 90 Day Fiancee will also make the move as well. I wonder if it's going to hurt or help Discover+ that the more popular shows in the Discovery Network are effectively going behind a paywall?

Looks like they're testing the waters to see how much of this the viewers will put up with and still subscribe.
My guess is more shows will make the move because the price point is still so cheap. But once they try to raise the monthly rate (because they always do), I bet people won't keep quiet.

I guess it makes sense to put their money makers behind the paywall. Not sure about the 90 Day Fiancee franchise but Property Brothers and Joanna and Chip content people will pay for. Restaurant Impossible is pretty popular as well. I just think it's unfair that they gave absolutely no notice of this; they just started advertising "Property Brothers: Forever Home" as a Discovery+ only thing like a week and a half ago. If a lot of their popular shows do this I can see people getting resentful and not supporting Discovery+ OR the regular channels.
Another thing I've noticed is past seasons of certain shows aren't even available yet; I love vintage Property Brothers and that's not going to be available until the end of the month.

They moved a lot of Travel Channel ghost shows over. The one that I watch, Ghost Nation, is now only over there. I already pay for cable and these channels, to take already existing shows and move them is not cool. I get new shows or have them at the same time but they get money for them when they are on cable through subscriptions and commercials. It is just greedy, IMO

Yeah, I didn't have a problem with the Magnolia Network or shows like Ben's Workshop and Bobby and Giada in Italy because they are either new shows or supplemental material for shows already on the regular channels. To take shows that were on the normal Discover channels for years and then try to make people pay for them is kinda shysterish.

Not sure where to put this post, but for those who have discover+ Magnolia just uploaded the first episode of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home and it's really good? Newlyweds big on love but not a lot of money buy this house that is absolutely trashed, and by trashed I mean garbage everywhere, cat dung everywhere, and apparently it smelled really bad too because Joanna kept running outside. Chip is up to his usual (he licks a piece of cat poo at one point?) but listens to Joanna mostly. The couple wanted something that was midcentury but industrial but the house was more....suburban build, I guess? but Joanna did an amazing job; everything from changing the shape of the windows to a more retro-modern transom style to utilizing an old industrial window she rescued from a factory to let light into the husbands office area from the rest of the house.
The kitchen had a wood ceiling and dark green cabinets and was laid out beautifully, and the master bedroom and bath were big and amazing; the feature wall was like ceder planks and the bed was against it, and the bathroom was the same green as the cabinets in the kitchen with white sink and tub. I must admit when she was describing how she wanted the bathroom I had my reservations because she wanted to paint the ceiling green as well and it had oddly shaped corners, but it turned out beautifully in the end. I have to admit that I was kinda getting bored of Joanna's usage of neutrals and "live, laugh, love" aesthetic on the last season on HGTV, but if this episode is any indication of what's coming it's going to be a great season because her skills have really blossomed and hell, I wanted that house after she was finished with it and I don't say that too often!

I was watching the second season of a show called Undercover Billionaire. It was a airing each week on the Discovery channel. Then after a couple of weeks, it disappeared off the schedule and I guess the rest of the season is only on the discovery plus app

From what I can determine (and I might be wrong) season 2 had only five episodes. The 5th episode, Fist or Finesse, is scheduled to be on tonight, February 3, on Discovery Plus. So it appears we're only missing one of the five?

I refuse to get plus because of this. Just a money grab, IMO. I get putting the shows on there for those who don't have cable but to take it away from those of us who already pay for their channels and get involved in the shows is wrong.

I agree with you and I'm not falling for it. So I have to have double the channels to watch things? NO thanks. If I drop cable (haven't yet because we would need to go in to do so), perhaps I will take a look, but not now.

I've read a lot of complaints on the TLC FB page. Are the actually moving Dr. Pimple Popper over to the streaming platform? Several posters on their FB said that was the case, which seems insane. Most said they would just give up watching the show rather than pay for another streaming service.
I think they're vastly overestimating the willingness of people to pay to watch their programming. The only thing I watch on ANY of their channels is My 600 Lb Life and if they move it to the "+" platform, I'll give it up.

I got Discover+ because I don't have Animal Planet and wanted access to the new stuff. Discover putting existing shows under a paywall is horrible; Dr Pimple Popper is extremely popular as well and it looks like all the popular shows going to + is just going to make people resentful and not get the service at all. I'm slightly put out because the Property Brothers is on "constant streaming" 24/7 and you can't pick what episodes to watch, and I prefer the older ones. It's the only show they've treated that way too.

Wow, I didn't know they're moving existing shows to the Plus platform, that's pretty shitty of them. I hope it backfires on them and they have to move everything to the regular channels that we already pay for. Greedy clowns.

They moved a bunch from Travel. Ghost Nation, Ghost Adventures (although that one can go away for all I care) and the one that hurts me the most is Expedition Unknown. I want to be Josh Gates when I grow up. Now I can only watch reruns with no signs of the new shows as reruns. I wonder how long it will take them to realize they have alienated a large portion of their viewers. When I dump cable, I don't know that I would subscribe unless they put the already existing shows back on regular tv. I see them getting ripped up one side and down another on lots of platforms. I hope they decided to listen.

In more pleasant news they released the second episode of Fixer Upper: Welcome Home and it was just as good as the first. The buyer this time was one of their employees who moved from NY to Waco to work for them and finally bought a house (a ranch with good bones) but wasn't sure what to do with it. The end result was beautiful, full of walnut wood, concrete, and a glass-paned office that looked out on the living room. The kitchen and en-suite was amazing and matched the rest of the house with the walnut and concrete sinks and cabinets and terracotta tiles. Instead of using a glossy black paint to accentuate things (like the stove hood and bathroom tiles) she used a matte black instead, and instead of the coolness some industrial style design has there was a warmth and beauty throughout the house. He was very pleased, and so was I.
See, this is the type of content I don't mind paying for, not things that were yanked off the regular channels. Granted, Fixer Upper was on HGTV but this new version is on Magnolia which was going to be extra anyway.

My Facebook feed has included a discount offer for Discover+ . . . they're marketing as a "give a gift to your friends" offer.
To me, it sounds like they're trying to entice more people over there because their initial launch was not what they expected it to be.

Fixer Upper: Welcome Home: Another successful reno. This house looked so much better after the rehab, especially the outside. Owner wanted a mix of MCM and European style housing and Jo delivered. Instead of just having separate rooms they also made beautiful archways leading into other areas. Kitchen and bath is amazing. Chip is still a child.
