The show received its renewal today -- the exact premiere date for season 30 is unknown for now. -------------------------- ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Renewed By ABC For Season 30By Peter White March 30, 2021 11:00am Dancing with the Stars is set to hit a major milestone – a 30th season. The dancing competition, which is based on the British format Strictly Come Dancing, has been renewed by ABC and will return next year. Host Tyra Banks, who joined last year, replacing Tom Bergeron last season, and judges Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli all are expected to return. Hough joined last season, essentially replacing Brit Goodman, who was forced to sit out most of the season due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. He still appeared in a number of pre-recorded video segments and the hope is that he will be able to travel to the States later this year as long as the pandemic restrictions are lifted. Dancing with the Stars is produced by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm. Andrew Llinares and Banks are executive producers. It is expected to return next fall. The show grew its audience in Season 29, helped by a new host and a slight format refresh. There was no audience due to the pandemic, and producers redesigned the set with screens, reduced the amount of set pieces and had no backing dancers for most of the season. Llinares told Deadline that this put the focus back on the dancers, including eventual winners Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev, with remote cameras introduced in rehearsal spaces to allow them to capture more intimate footage. “The whole Covid situation forced us to look at the show in a completely different way and pushed us to go to places creatively we wouldn’t have gone otherwise,” he added. “What was interesting was that many of the creative solutions that we came up with actually ended up improving the show.” He expects to keep a number of the changes regardless of whether restrictions stay in place. “Ultimately, we are all looking forward to a time when we have the freedom to make shows without these sort of restrictions,” Llinares said, “but even when that day comes, we’ll still hold on to many of the lessons that we learned from this very unique time.”

Boy, if that doesn't look like a PR release I don't know what is. The whole thing goes completely against what I thought of it. If they plan to continue with all the dreadful changes of last season I won't be watching, and that has nothing to do with the lack of audience. They took a perfectly good fun show & demolished it.

It's because there was NOTHING ELSE ON TV! We were in the middle of a pandemic and people were desperate for anything new to watch. If anything, people tuned in to hate watch Tyra. You know they spun it this way to feed her monstrous ego.
I'll probably watch the new season, but I'll DVR it so I can ffwd through Tyra's bits.

Two stars have been announced, plus some news... Suni Lee & JoJo Siwa Join ‘Dancing With The Stars’; Season 30 To Feature Same-Sex Partnership For The First Time - DeadlineAugust 26, 2021 1:05pm Suni Lee and JoJo Siwa will bring their own talents to Dancing With The Stars for the series’ 30th season, ABC revealed during its TCA panel on Thursday. The Olympic gold medalist and social media personality are the first cast members revealed for Dancing With The Stars Season 30. Additional celebrities set to tout their dancing skills (or lack thereof) will be unveiled on Good Morning America on Sept. 8. During the panel host Tyra Banks and executive producer Andrew Llinares revealed that the latest season will feature a same-sex partnership, for the first time in its history. Llinares said that Siwa, who recently came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, will be paired with a female dancer. “I think it’s cool, i think it breaks a wall that’s never been done before,” Siwa said “I think it’s really special that i get to share wit the world that you can love who you love, but now you can dance with who you want to dance with.” Lee joins a number of Olympic gymnasts who once strut their stuff on the Dancing With The Stars stage. Previous Olympic gymnasts-turned-DWTS alumni are Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez and Nastia Liukin. Hernandez was the champion of Season 23 in 2016. Just last month at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Lee took home the gold for the women’s all-around, bronze for the uneven bars and helped the U.S. Women’s Gymnastic’s team earn silver in the team event. She also made history as the first Hmong-American Olympian. Siwa is an actress, singer and influencer who was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2020. She has over 60.5 million followers on social media and over 3.6 billion views on her It’s JoJo Siwa YouTube channel. Siwa will star in and executive produce The J Team, a live-action musical set to premiere on Paramount+. She also serves as creative director and executive producer of the upcoming Peacock series Siwa’s Dance Pop Revolution. Dancing With The Stars sees Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough serve as judges. The show will return for its milestone season, with judges live on Monday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Not that I'm against them dancing same sex, but that I'm afraid the show will milk this for everything it's worth & then some more. I also hope that the two (four?) women are very thick skinned, because the trolls will tear them limb from limb. Jojo has been in the public eye & social media eye long enough to know how to be tough, but Suni, I'm not so sure. I guess I have mixed feelings about this. It wouldn't phaze me in the least. What matters to me is the dancing. But I hope the hype & blowback don't take over the show.

I don't think Suni is dancing with a woman. I think they just announced her now because she's hot off of the Olympics.

Based on the release, I think Siwa will be the only one with a same-sex partner (for now at least)...

Olivia Jade is rumored to be on the show. Another reason to skip it for me. That's what the mute button and ffwd is for! I did it all last season with Tyra.
So far, there are way too many reality TV people and non stars. Olivia Jade is NOT a star. At all. I saw a rumor that her partner might be Val. I hope it's true and that he breaks her down, big time. She seems like a spoiled brat, so I hope he grinds her into the ground.
I'm not a big fan of Jojo. I found her and her mother to both be shrill and irritating on Dance Moms and the bow thing is obnoxious. It was obnoxious when she was little. As a teenager? It's ridiculous. I do understand why the producers picked her to be the first person with a same sex partner. She's cute and young and non-threatening. They were never going to do it with a big, muscular guy. Middle America would revolt.
I saw an article earlier speculating that Amanda Kloots will be on this season too. I love her, but casting a Broadway dancer seems like the ultimate in ringer casting.
I'm glad Matt James finally shaved that nasty beard. He looked like that Wooly Willy game with the magnet where you can make facial hair on the man's face. A little shaping would have helped, but the way he wore it did him no favors. It looked like a bad disguise. My hunch is that he has zero rhythm or coordination.

That is exactly what I said to a GF about Matt! He just doesn't strike me as someone who has rhythm, maybe he will prove us both wrong

I'm trying to remember what he looked like dancing in the TikTok videos that "the quarantine crew" was doing when Hannah was hanging with him and Tyler last summer or spring or whatever it was. Generally, football players have been pretty good dancers. He was a wide receiver, so he'd have to be quick and agile and light on his feet. He's also a skateboarder, so he probably has good balance. He may surprise us. He's apparently pretty funny, so he may be fun to watch. (I'm not invested in him one way or another in terms of being a fan. Just thinking out loud. )

Was Chris Harrison asked to be on this show? It's an unconfirmed rumor. There haven't been any pictures of someone who could be him entering rehearsals like there have been with others, so I guess we'll see when they announce the participants in a couple of days. I'm sure they'd love the potential controversy/tension of having him and Matt James on the same season! UGH!!! So tasteless!

The show has always leaned a little bit on those controversial casting choices, but now that Tyra is at the helm, it's definitely getting worse. At least Tom Bergeron tried to keep things classy.
I just saw a commercial for the show starring, of course, Tyra and she was just as obnoxious and cringey as always. Why can't she speak like a normal person? It's so over-the-top and hammy. I'm sure I'll watch at least some of the season, but I'll definitely watch on my DVR and ffwd through at least Tyra's parts.

I love to watch the dancing & watch the improvement of the dancers, but that's no longer the focus of the show. Last season it became clear it was all about Tyra. Her costumes. Her over the top expressing herself. Her taking over the whole thing. The dancers were nothing more than background filler for Tyra. It became "Tyra's Dancing Show". I miss Tom & Erin. A lot! I'll probably watch the first few episodes, at least part of them. Once I get fed up I'll probably quit & just check in here every once in a while. As FannyMare said: "I'm sure I'm not the target audience".

It cut out all the Tyra nonsense and it saved me a lot of time and fast forwarding! You've got more interest than I do. I have no intention to hunt dances down on YouTube or anywhere else. If I don't watch the show when it's on & on the network it's on, then they've lost me. I just don't care that much. I don't have a lot of confidence in it, but I'll give it a chance. ABC keeps showing the Tyra promos. They're really putting me off. They're all about Tyra, Tyra, Tyra. Nothing but "look at me" spots. Not a good sign for the way this season is going to go.
