I’m sad that we don’t have more AI posters like in the old days. My favorites from last night were Cassandra and the girl who went last... Grace?

Grace was pretty good last night, as were a few others. I wasn't a fan of the girl with the eye patch, and the one guy who sang country was really kind of bad. Like, how did he even make it to top 24 bad. Yikes. I enjoyed the guest singers, too - Brian McKnight gave me some 90's flashbacks.

I loved seeing Ryan Tedder (still have a huge crush on him), Joss Stone (huge girl crush on her and gawd she gets more beautiful with age.. like really DOES she age??), and yes Way I had some serious flashbacks with Brian McKnight too. I too wonder how Cecil made the top 24, he is not on the same level with all the other singers. He can go home IMO, and I wasn't feeling Alana either. I still love Wyatt and his Ben Rector duet was like butter for me. Perfect match up there! If Wyatt and Ben were like butter, then Kat and Willie were like butter covered butter in their duet. And Joss and Grace, gawd... she did pull even more out of an already wonderful singer. (I cannot say enough how much I adore Joss Stone!) I thought the rest did a great job for the most part last night, I really liked the Billie song Andrea Valles (eye patch girl) did. If I had to pick the four to go I guess it would be Cecil, Alana, Anilee, and the last one is hard for me because the rest really did do a great job.. I guess I'd have to say Deshawn. As much as I do like him and his voice and I want to root for the hometown boy, I just think others were stronger.
And I just have to add, as good as Joss looked last night, WTAF was Kat McPhee wearing???? She looked like a bottle of Pepto blew up and someone tried to clean it up with a bargain paper towel.

FireWoman - you crack me up. Cecil was so bad. I’m still bruised over Murphy’s elimination and think he should have had a chance over Cecil. Alana, Alanis, Andrea, Annilee...they all run together for me. I remember the year Fantasia won, some really wonderful singers split the votes and were gone too soon. I think this will happen here. I wonder why they didn’t split them more evenly over the two days.

I think they got away from 12 and 12...something that never made sense. I did not count but nothing was made of having an equal number of each gender. I also liked how quickly the show moved.
I do not have a clue why they picked Cecil and made the big deal of picking him over the other young man. Neither was among the strongest singers . Murphy and the baby faced country singer were much better choices. I am wondering if they thought the country kid would have a strong shot at winning and they didn't want that.
Amanda, Grace and Willie are my top picks. Each is amazing.

Amanda, Grace and Willie are my top picks. Each is amazing. I loved Murphy, and miss his voice AND his bigger than life smile... but I wonder if it was a choice of his sight over moving him along. He mentioned how the stage lights were already making his sight worse in his one eye. Murphy is a far better artist/talent/singer/musician than Cecil and would have done FAR better in the vote than him as well so I have to think it was a choice made out of caution??

He could have worn sunglasses. It’s not like he shies away from his condition... he goes by Blind Boy Music on YouTube and Spotify.

I have thought about it and can not come up with any reason why they made that choice of the last male to be in the top 24----

Cecil was plain bad.
Grace and Willie were my faves last night. They are probably my faves in the competition. I like Wyatt and, like others, am still pissed they let Murphy go.

I’m curious how they’re going to handle this week’s cuts. Will we vote during the show and then learn at the end which four were cut from each night? Give us the results of last night’s voting at the beginning of the show? I can’t imagine they will keep the ones who were cut around for an extra week to make the reveal next Sunday. But they have done that before. It just seems cruel to have 8 people all prepared to sing and never get the chance.

That is the only way they would be able to do it if they want the whole country to vote. Personally I prefer it, the last few seasons we couldn't vote because they did the reveal at the end of the show, before it even showed in Utah. Don't call it America's vote if all of America doesn't get the chance.

I forgot about that....that they didn't have a large part of the country vote due to the early announcement. Hopefully, they got rid of that bug too.
They did not do Cecil any favors selecting him for the top 24 when he was so much less talented than just about everybody else. It was a puzzlement to the fans and brought the strangeness of the selection to a very obvious point. The judges did not look good.

Has anyone heard how it will be done this year? The cable is out in a large area here so I probably won’t be able to watch tonight. I’ll follow along on Reddit.

Katy looks completely different tonight - she's such a chameleon.
Tori Kelly has a wonderful voice, which I learned on the Masked Singer instead of her original appearance on a singing competition show (ahem, AI!!). The only thing I have to say, though, is she seemed to outshine Madison when singing the duet. I don't expect the stars to NOT sing well, of course, but to really go all out seems like showing off a little bit. I think the other stars have done a better job of showing their talent while also helping show off their mentee's talent. Maybe it will be different with her next contestant. Again, I like her and she's a great singer, but it seemed a little much. I didn't feel that bad for Madison, because she's just not that strong of a singer, IMO.
Last night, I loved Willie's voice and his duet. I'm not decided yet on Grace's voice, maybe she'll grow on me.
Beane and music teacher Jason were really good tonight so far.

I missed the beginning of both shows, so if they said it, I missed it. Sorry. Hannah's not doing a very good job on her country song. Ouch, my ears.

Chayse has an appealing voice; I could listen to that gravelly rough kind of singing all day!
He's not hard to look at, either.
In the duet, he actually made Brandon's own song sound better!

They’ll let us know on Sunday. Ava and Casey were my favorites tonight. It doesn’t seem like they were evenly divided. I’d like to see more go home from tonight over most of last night’s singers. Josh Groban was an awesome duet partner. ❤️ Hannah from tonight and Cecil from last night are both in over their heads. I hope Vote For The Worst doesn’t exist anymore.

I enjoyed most of the duets, especially over the solo performances. The mentors just sounded awesome; they got good ones this year for sure!
So everyone prepares to sing on Sunday/Monday but then they'll not sing? That will be disappointing! But it's good experience, I'm sure, for them to be there rehearsing and learning.

I swear if I was 20 years younger... umm.. yeah.. I can listen to Chayse all day, every day. AND Casey, wow, she really is a talent! I only wish that Brandon and her sang Megalomaniac, I think she would have made that stage her bitch if they did. As a fan of Incubus I have to say, Brandon has aged well and I am happy to see him really embracing his Calabasas roots lol.
Ava singing with Josh, that was wonderful. I wasn't sure how she would hold up against his powerful voice, but she did well! She should move on, she deserves it.
Beane was my surprise tonight, he really did show up in his second song.
Tonight there I think I had more that I am willing to let go of, and for me it came down to song choice. Hannah did not pick a good solo song, I am not a country music fan by any stretch but I do like Chris Stapleton... sis did not do justice here.
Liahona has kind of run her course for me, I am just not feeling her as much anymore... and I didn't care for PJ Morton tonight which may have been part of it. I know there were many that felt that Ryan outshined his mentees last night, but I felt that PJ did more so tonight. I wasn't feeling either of his duets.
Jason and Madison were just kind of there for me tonight, they are good singers but they do not bring anything special in the top 24 for me. I would be OK with one or both going to be honest.
I am always happy to see Jewel, I have been a fan ever since she was 'breaking the yolks to make a smiley face' but girl, I hope the airlines find your luggage so you can stop raiding Katy's closet. I felt she really pushed her partners, most notably Hunter... she was not going to let him get away with hanging back and prop her up. And Kudos to her for disagreeing with Katy!

Just watching on HULU now and tears are flowing after the Ava - Josh duet. That song always brings tears of memory, but their interpretation had me wiping my cheeks.
