Tonight: The top 12 contestants perform Oscar-nominated songs in hopes of securing America's vote into the top nine. Plus, Lionel Richie opens the show with a special performance of "Say You Say Me."

Hunter is so sweet; I didn't even hear his mistake but it crushed him and he started crying on stage. Poor guy. I liked his song and his performance, and the judges were super supportive. Then they cut to a live shot of his "at home" crowd of family and friends, and former contestant Graham was there! Nice to see that support too!

Madison looks stunning singing Whitney's "Run to You" from The Bodyguard. That dress is so elegant, and her hair/makeup are so pretty.
She started off the song very well, then when she hit some big notes I couldn't hear her, only the band and backup singers. Almost like her mic was on mute - I heard nothing. She finished it off well, though.

Beane, what on Earth was that? Seemed like he was winging it there for a bit, and not very well either.

I thought Ava did well. Grace made an odd song choice with “Happy”.

Beane, Ava and Madison are eliminated. Somehow Caleb got through, hmmm.... The top 9 are off to a surprise trip to Disney tonight! I thought they were being strict with quarantining, etc., so I wonder how they'll isolate them? Or is that over for them?
I'm intrigued about tomorrow night's show, to see who is coming back and how they'll do. I saw someone online post "so we're all voting for Arthur, right?!" He's about the only one I can remember besides the winner.

So sad Ava’s gone. She should have made it past Alyssa at least. I’m resigned that Caleb will draw all the country votes. Hunter was a blubbering mess because he forgot his lyrics. 🙄 I don’t get him at all but I’ve seen people online squealing over him so, whatever. Different strokes for different folks. Casey showed us how impressive she can be and she’s a doll, but I still prefer Cassandra and Grace.

It's a travesty that Ava went home yet Hunter and Caleb are still in. I can't even remember most of the contestants from last year...

And they raved about Caleb's Willy Nelson song.....It was fine with Willy's distinctive voice, but nothing as sung by the kid.
I was annoyed at Katy's put down of Grace. She raved that several other people were showing them something different but she was adamant that Grace made a poor choice and that they told her what lane to stay in.
Whoever did Grace and Casey's make up worked wonders. Both young women are attractive, but they looked really lovely last night.
Shocked also about Ava!!

I saw an article that talked about tonight's show. Apparently a number of the top ten people got contracts from AI so they will not be on. They have people who go all the way back to the top 20. I did see that Arthur was mentioned as being on but Johnny West either was not invited or declined. I also did not recognize a number of names...that was a tough year.

It will be fun to see last year’s contestants sing on stage but I think it’s wrong to let one jump in with this year’s group.

I too was shocked Ava did not advance, but as much as I did like her I did not feel it was the best song choice for her. Same with Beane and Madison, but that wasn't an issue to me because neither should have been saved last week IMO. Madison looked so much older than she is too, it was odd for me, she looked like a 45 year old soccer mom at a charity function.
Grace did well enough, and I still love her voice but damn I hate that song.
For the most part everyone did a good job last night, even Caleb.. he is very talented but boring as all get out. I thought that Casey, Willie, and DeShawn were the big standouts for me.
I like Hunter, and really felt bad he did mess up at the very end, not sure the song was the best choice for him, it was almost like his voice overtook the song. I still have no idea what Lionel is talking about half the time with his critiques... I wish he was more coherent at times. Just like I wish Katy would get over herself with the females that are FAR better singers than she is, she should know that envy is one of the seven deadly sins.
I may have waned a bit on my love for Alyssa, but she does have a strong, powerful voice but the faces she makes when she sings are very distracting to me, at least she didn't bop and smile her way through this one. MUCH better than last week for me, I thought it was one of the most perfect song choices of the night.
Chayce was fine, safe even. I liked his version of the Brian Adams song but again I think it was a safe choice. He may make top 5 but that may be it if he doesn't have a big moment or something.
Just like I felt Alyssa picked a perfect song for her Cassandra and DeShawn did as well. I love me some Babs and my hometown man did it justice! I was so thrilled to see this side of him. Cassandra surprised me in a good way. She took one of my least favorite Bond songs of recent years and delivered a solid number.
Casey and Willie took songs that showed they can do more than the songs in their normal 'lane.' Casey is so damn good technically and can sing the hell out of almost anything but this softer side of her was so nice to see even if it looked like she was headed off to a job interview after she left the stage with her suit. Willie, what can I say there???? First of all to see the amazing Cynthia Erivo give encouragement to him had me squee like a fan girl, love her!!! But his delivery was power, beauty, and emotion all rolled into one. I think he did my goddess Cynthia proud. I may have been a bit misty eyed on this one.
As for the returning singers from last season, yeah Arthur is my biggest vote target, I am happy to see him get a second chance. My others would be Franklin Boone and maybe Aliana Jester. Aliana just has something about her and I honestly loved Franklyn's voice and he was such a sweet guy to boot! I am not looking forward to Louis Knight or Cyniah Elise.. but I think that Artur will cancel them both out, or gawd I hope so at least.

The top 9 are off to a surprise trip to Disney tonight! I thought they were being strict with quarantining, etc., so I wonder how they'll isolate them? Or is that over for them? I am thinking the next show will be Disney related so they will have footage from that trip and I am sure they will be quarantined from anyone else in the park. I was annoyed at Katie telling Grace to leave her safety zone but telling the others to stay with their strengths. Which is it? I felt bad for Hunter and think the only reason he made it through was because he cried. I wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't cried. At this point there isn't anyone I dislike, so far I am liking this season.

Please let Ava get a contract, please let Ava get a contract. If I could vote (I don't see the show til next day on HULU) I would choose her and her style over any of the brassy singers like Grace or Alyssa. Did Hunter squeak through on a pity vote?
AVA, AVA, AVA!!! (Also she lives just down the 405 freeway from me)
