I'm now at he beginning of Alexandria and they all just turned over their guns. Carol's fumbling with taking her gun off and acting all clueless God, I love her. "Who's Deanna?" I skipped the episodes where Hershel, Beth and Tyreese died. I don't know if I'll watch all of the episodes, but I know I definitely won't watch 7.1. Never watched it. Never will. Speaking as a desensitized horror movie fan, I wish I'd never watched episode 7.1. It was just that disturbing. Just thinking about that scene makes my stomach turn to this day...

I skipped the episodes where Hershel, Beth and Tyreese died. I read a recap and then watched some of the episode - and ffwd with my hand covering the screen for the parts I don't want in my head. I do think the showrunners realized - only after the horrendous backlash they got after that episode - that they really blew it. I don't think their ratings ever rebounded from that exodus of viewers. I'll admit that I didn't watch for a month or two because I was so upset. I finally did go back and watch (I didn't that any part of "that" episode for a long time) the ones I missed and caught up. There are Glenn moments in the series that still make me cry, because I know what's coming.
I've skipped a good half dozen episodes, including most recently the Morgan-centric one where he was off in the woods playing guru and deciding not to kill people. Blah. I'm remembering how I was really conflicted about Morgan for a lot of the series. I wanted to like him more than I did because I love Lennie James. Morgan can be a bit of an idealistic nitwit.
I know I'll be skipping quite a bit of the stuff with the Saviors. I just hated those seasons/episodes. Dwight and Sherry just showed, up, so I think I"ll definitely be skipping episodes again. I'm actually looking forward to the Whisperers. Alpha was such an excellent Big Bad and I love Samantha Morton.
Glenn is still under the dumpster.

I've been trying to figure out why Negan and Maggie would end up in NYC together on their spin-off series. I wonder if - and this is just based on the previews and my having watched the show - the children are taken and the two of them head off to find them. We know Negan has a soft spot for kids and if Hershel is taken, Maggie will do anything to find him.
I'm still worried for Judith because there's been no mention of Cailey Fleming in the talk of the Rick/Michonne series. It's disappointing how little we've seen her in this bunch of episodes.
Only 4 more episodes left (Again - watching a week ahead on AMC+). Without giving anything away, Carol has some great moments in this weeks (AMC+)/next week's (AMC) episode and one, in particular, made me fist pump!
I'm on season 9 of my series re-watch. Alpha just showed up at Hilltop demanding Lydia.
The past few seasons reminded me of how awful Gregory was. Also, how odd Maggie's departure was. We know it was for her other series, but on WD, it was just weird that she was suddenly gone.

I feel like I'm the only one here who's still watching the show
I like watching a week ahead with AMC+ because I"m impatient, but then I can't post about it here without spoiler tags for a week and I don't think anyone else here is watching ahead.
All I will say is that the newest episode is one of my favorites of recent years, with a final line that had me hollering. SO good. There were actually several moments where I cheered!
I can't believe it's almost over. I only have two new episodes to go

I just got caught up so I can slide in here without spoiling myself. I didn't even know Maggie and Negan were in a spinoff series - I honestly thought he wasn't going to make it out of this season alive. The Negan Redemption Tour goes on! I don't have AMC+ so I'm not watching ahead, but I have really enjoyed this season so far...

I don't have AMC+ so I'm not watching ahead, but I have really enjoyed this season so far... I'm not going to spoil you, but I will say that this weekend's episode is really good! The one airing on AMC, I mean. I can't believe I only have two more episodes to watch. I'm bummed that I have a work event on the Sunday that the finale drops on AMC+. Normally, I watch as early in the day as I can. This time, I have to wait until I get home later in the day I know I'm going to be a soggy mess watching the last episode. I mean, the spinoffs are definitely taking the edge off, but there are characters we won't see again.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been pretty vocal about his unhappiness over them announcing Dead City before the end of TWD. It really takes some of the suspense out of the situation. Same with the Daryl spinoff.
I've enjoyed AMC+ and I'm going to watch as much of the other original content as I can, once I'm done with my busy season for work (ie after Christmas), but I wouldn't pay for it again. Once the year expires in a few months, I'll cancel. I got it for $20 for the year, so that was a pretty good deal. I already have too many streaming services and AMC+ is one that's going to go. I considered keeping it when I thought that was how I was going to be able to watch Doctor Who (if I canceled or downgraded my cable and lost BBC America), but now that it's moving to Disney+, I'm not as conflicted. Being able to watch TWD a week early was a nice perk, I will admit.

I've been waiting a whole week (actually, more than a season!) to say this....."Luke!"
I thought it was exceptionally stupid that Pamela thought it was a good idea to take over Alexandria and then send our people back there. Did she not realize they'd know the place better than anyone from the Commonwealth would? I loved the shots of everyone infiltrating the town.
Mercer's closing line had me cheering! I'm so glad he's the good man I hoped he was.
Is there any way that Annie (and the baby) is not going to die before this is all over? How else would Negan be "free" to leave and go to NYC with Maggie? Maybe Annie gets kidnapped?
I love that the show is getting sweary in the finale season. The next episode is no exception and the f-bomb win it is awesome!
You see now what I mean about the Dead City announcement taking some of the suspense away. You KNEW they weren't going to kill Negan, no matter how dire it got.
I'm so sad to only have one episode left. Apparently, AMC+ makes the new episodes available just after midnight, so I might stay up late to watch, so I don't have to wait until Sunday night when I get home from my work event.

Haaa Mercer's closing line had me hollering! F some shit up, indeed. We've almost out of time and cocky Pamela is in dire need of an attitude/lifestyle adjustment. Nice to see Luke again, loved Daryl's sneak attack and Rosita feeding the Warden to the newly-turned walker. I knew Negan wasn't going to sell out Ezekiel, and we all knew he wasn't going to be executed since the dumbass showrunners spoiled their own show. Annie, on the other hand...who knows. And why did they have little Herschel tied to a chair with armed guards, is a tiny boy that threatening? What's with the leveled up zombies picking up knives and climbing over stuff?

And why did they have little Herschel tied to a chair with armed guards, is a tiny boy that threatening? What's with the leveled up zombies picking up knives and climbing over stuff? After the last episode on AMC+, I know exactly who I want to be the one to give her that adjustment! There's been some speculation (wishing?) that it will be walker Lance Hornsby who will take her out. Maybe it'll be that walker who picked up the knife in the middle of the horde. You just know that's going to show up again. I fear it'll be someone we care about, like Jerry or Elijah or someone even worse like Aaron Others online have said they want her in jail, but I think that'll just give her the opportunity to manipulate people and maybe get out. IMO, she needs a brutal death, handed down by someone who's earned the right to take her out.
I've read several comments online about how they're changing things with the walkers out of nowhere, but that's not really true. Scott M. Gimple, when he took over (and some say screwed up) the franchise, they did change the walkers from what was being done originally. In the first season, they were much more functional. Remember the little girl in the first episode, picking up her stuffed animal? The walker at he department store, who picked up the rock? I remember that some of the walkers in Atlanta when Rick first arrived looked more aware of their surroundings. Oh, and Morgan's wife, who walked right up to their front door and started trying to turn the door knob.
Not much has been said about the Daryl spinoff, other than it will be in France. People have pointed out the communications from France when they were at the CDC and that maybe some of those more functional walkers were in France. Maybe that's going to be a part of his spinoff. How's he going to get over the Atlantic? Maybe this will involve the CRM. Is Daryl a "B"?
I don't think it was a showrunner who spoiled the Negan/Maggie spinoff. I think it was Scott M. Gimple, who is the overlord of the whole WD universe. He's horrible. He hired the two kids who have all but ruined FTWD. I'm only watching that now because Madison is back. You can see in interviews how annoyed JDM is that they announced Dead City ahead of the WD finale. As much as they're all actors, they're also fans and they know that these spoilers affect your viewing experience.
Now the big discussion is about whether we'll see Rick and/or Michonne in the finale. Part of me hopes we do, especially if it involves a Rick/Daryl reunion AND a Rick, Michonne and Judith reunion. I don't want it to take away from the actors who stayed on the show these last few years either. We don't know much about the Rick/Michonne series, but I doubt it'll be in France, so this might be the only time Daryl and Rick could reunite. It'd be a shame if Daryl never saw him again and knew he was alive after spending all those years looking for him.
As a side note, I was listening to the episode of Jon Bernthal's podcast Will Sarah Wayne Callies and they talked a lot about when Frank Darbont was forced out as showrunner. I hadn't realized how much upheaval it caused among the cast. It's a really good discussion, for those who are interested. She talks about her experiences with sexual harassment and unequal treatment on sets and it sounds like WD is a great set to work on.

Ooo, I'd like zombie Lance to take her out, I didn't think of that. It'd be fitting. Now that you brought it up, I remember the walkers in the beginning that were a bit more...sentient? than the rest, so yeah, that's not new. It did seem like they got away from that idea for a while, though.
I'm still pissed that Carol won't be a part of the Daryl spinoff. Couldn't they do "France" here so Melissa McBride could join in? I read that she couldn't go to Europe to film so she had to bail, which sucks.
I hope we're not disappointed in the finale, there's a lot to get through in two episodes...

Whenever I watch the first episode, the walker that always sticks out to me is the young guy who's in the bus in downtown Atlanta when Rick rides by on the horse and he turns his head. It just feels more aware. Same with Morgan's wife.
It feels like the way they "trained" the actors who play walkers has definitely changed over the years.
Speaking of the Daryl spinoff, they're adding cast members. I love Clemence Poesy, so I'm thrilled she'll be a part of it:

waywyrd, I've been waiting for your reaction!
I have to believe they won't let Judith die. I think they've been setting her up to take Carl's role from the comics....or maybe I just hope they are. I can't imagine why they'd kill her at this point, knowing SO many fans would be angry. We know some people probably aren't going to make it, but they don't need to kill Judith.
Going into the finale, I'm especially worried for Jerry, Ezekial, Gabriel and Eugene. I also wonder if Elijah and Luke will make it and if Lydia will survive that bite and amputation. Pamela surely will go out in a gruesome, karma-filled way, especially after shooting Judith. I want Daryl to kill her. Forget Walker Lance. After this last episode, it needs to be Daryl.
That "Daddy" at the end broke me
No early airing of the finale on AMC+. It's all live next Sunday!

Critical - no early finale for the AMC+ people?? I guess they don't want spoilers flying yet... I really think Judith will make it, like you said, too many people would be pissed if they killed another of the kids. Especially Rick's kid. Pamela is due for a big karma payback, and Daryl handing it out would be lovely. Hell, let Carol get in there too, since we're not getting the Daryl/Carol spinoff I was looking forward to. Wasn't expecting Lydia to get bit, that kind of came out of nowhere. It does feel like they're going to take out a major-ish character for the finale...I'd rather it be Gabriel or Eugene. Leave Jerry and Ezekiel alone, please.

Leave Jerry and Ezekiel alone, please. And then they posted pics (which have since been deleted, but can be found in various articles) to the official show page that showed {Spoiler} Judith sitting up and standing by a gurney looking pretty healthy, AND a shot with what looks like a dead or at least injured Luke in the background. Doh!
I've been reading articles about the show and getting weepy all week. I'm happy we're getting the spinoffs, but I'm going to miss this show and these people, most of whom are either going to die OR just not be in those spinoffs.
I can't decide if I want to see Rick in the finale or not. I don't want him to take away from all the other cast members who've been working hard on the show this whole time, but it sort of feels right for him to be back for the end. If they do have a little Rick cameo, I want it to actually BE him and not some vision Judith has.
If they kill Judith - and I really don't think they will - I will not be okay. I believe that, because of the timing of them finishing filming and announcing the Daryl/Carol spinoff, that Carol is safe, but I'm so worried about her anyway She's hands down my favorite character.
The little making of the final season special was fun, but far too short!
The runtime for the finale is 90 minutes!

You got your wish, Critical - a little Rick/Michonne cameo at the end, I guess setting up their spinoff. He was such a big part of the series, I'm glad they had him back for a few minutes. And Judith is okay! Poor Rosita, though. And Luke. Those were kind of brutal scenes, with everyone sobbing over a hacked up Luke and Rosita falling with the baby into a pile of walkers. I thought she and the baby were done for until she burst out of the pile fighting. I went in wanting Pamela to die in an awful way, but I kind of like they way they did it instead. She didn't get the easy way out, and jail was probably the worst outcome for an "elite" *rolleyes* politician. Look at what screwing over the common folk did for you, witch. Enjoy that cell. The scene with Maggie and Negan was surprisingly touching. I love JDM. But the Daryl and Carol scene at the end by the lake had me all choked up. That "I love you" just hit different. Still mad that I won't get my spinoff with those two...

Still mad that I won't get my spinoff with those two... That part got me too. You just knew that was Norman and Melissa in that scene. I was bawling. I still have hope that we'll see Carol on the Daryl spinoff. In interviews, they've used language that makes it sound like it could happen down the road. While the Rick and Michonne series is a 6 episode limited series that sounds like it's only those 6 episodes, the other two spinoffs sound like they might be series that would go longer than one season. Maybe we'll see Carol in season 2. I read a comment on reddit complaining about that awful black eye of Daryl's, like it was bad makeup. Nope. It was REAL! That's the result of Norman's on-set injury where he also got a concussion. Easier for the makeup department to just go with it. IIRC, they worked it into the plot by having the "storm troopers" knock him out to explain the black eye.
Christian Serratos apparently asked for Rosita to die, so I'm a little less sad about it because of that. She got a beautiful send off. I do wonder how she got bitten on her shoulder while she was wearing all that clothing. Her goodbye with Eugene was really beautiful. I just love that relationship. Her kissing Coco for the last time = There was that little moment with Judith watching Rosita tell Gabriel where you could see it all on Judith's face. Cailey Fleming is just so talented.
I thought that second scene with Negan and Maggie was terrific. I mean the first one was good too, but that second one, with Maggie's monologue about why she couldn't forgive him was really powerful. The fact that Negan literally has no lines in that whole scene...he didn't need to. It was all on his face.
OMG, that scene with Luke dying and the women all crying over him just destroyed me. I was already crying, but that just broke me.
SO happy to see Rick and Michonne. It made me even more impatient for their series!
I've seen some complaints online about the mostly happy ending, but I'm okay with that. There was enough sadness and loss in this series.
I thought that baby "playing" Eugene and Max's daughter Rosie looked familiar - she's Khary Payton's daughter! She has her daddy's big beautiful eyes. Speaking of Khary - how hot are the Commonwealth's new Governor and Lieutenant Governor!?
The Talking Dead special was so fun! I wish it had been longer, because you only got a few minutes with each actor, if that. If was so cool to see Sarah Wayne Callies with her two "kids." Chandler looks so grown up! I was sad we didn't see Jon Bernthal or Jeffrey DeMunn. I was also surprised Dan Fogler wasn't there. Luke was pretty popular, even if he wasn't a main character.
Those commercials were hilarious! I didn't recognize Gareth, but had to laugh at Andrea and Milton. I watched the episode first on AMC+, so I was confused when posters on reddit were talking about Milton. Then I watched it at 9 on AMC and there came that commercial. Too funny.
We never did see the walker that picked up the knife. I was waiting for it!

I've been spending so many hours in the studio lately and am caught up on all of my regular podcasts, so I started at the beginning with the official WD podcast (I've listened to some of the episodes for season 11). It's sort of hilarious. The first episode was taped in maybe June, before season 1 premiered in October. They talked about how it got a 6 episode run and about how many comics were out (I think it was 75 at the time), but that there was no way the show would make it that far I don't think anyone could have predicted what a monster hit the show would be, but it's funny to listen to these folks who really didn't have any idea what the show would become.

So yeah....I'm re-watching the series again. I know I have a problem
I'm in the middle of the Whisperer War and Alpha is about to attack the Hilltop. Judith just gave Daryl his "repaired" vest and then Carol and Daryl made up after what happened in the cave: "I'm never going to hate you." I'm all weepy.
