Some movies start off great but the sequels get progressively worse until they're unwatchable.
I happened to catch the end of a movie this weekend and it looked like Aliens but I had seen all of them (or so I thought) and didn't recognize it. When I checked the tv guide later, I saw it was Alien Resurrection and I guess I never saw it at the theater. It was bad and just plain weird.
Here are some movies from my list that started off good but should have quit while they were ahead:
Alien The first one was great. The second one was good, better in some ways than the original. All the others after those two should have been scrapped.
Crocodile Dundee The first two were great! The second one was my favorite of the series. I hadn't even known there was a third one until I went to buy the movie on dvd and found a pack that included it. I assume it must have gone straight to video and that's why I never heard of it. It was really, really bad!
Police Academy The first one was funny. The second one, some of the same old jokes got lame. Third and beyond...enough already!
Austin Powers I saw the second one first and it remains my favorite. The third one was an embarrassment. Only the ending spoofing the movie was good.
Caddyshack, Grease, Mannequin, Dirty Dancing The same applies to all. The original was great, the sequel was a mess and wasn't meant to be.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Grease 2 . It's cheesy but fun. I like the songs too - especially Cool Rider and Girl for All Seasons. I think the Predator movies, after Predator 2, were pretty bad. Aliens vs Predator wasn't awful per se but there just wasn't enough of the Predators fighting the Aliens. I didn't like Predators and the new reboot looks extra dumb.

Okay, I know this isn't going to be on anybody's 'fave' list, but the first Twilight was actually good. Every one of it's sequels ..... meh.

Sometimes I wish they had quit after the original three Star Wars. I didn't like the prequels, spin-offs, or further episodes nearly as much. Jar Jar Binks was one of the most annoying movie characters ever! I didn't care for Padme, either, and somebody seriously needed to give her a makeup lesson. Girlfriend did not know how to properly apply lipstick.
I am looking forward to seeing Solo because Hans has always been one of the most intriguing characters and I'm hoping it will redeem the more recently made Star Wars movies.

For me, nothing beats the original three. I hated the prequels and the seventh was not bad, I enjoyed seeing the characters again, but I did not like the 8th one. I haven't seen Solo yet so I will reserve my judgement. I just think they might be oversaturating the market with Star Wars movies.

See - I didn't hate the prequels. You saw new characters, new planets, new ships, new everything. It's this latest round of milk-our-cash-cow that I hate. I thought The Force Awakens was awful. Rehash of A New Hope with less interesting characters and a whiny, entitled "bad guy". Even the droids were boring. Snoooze. I haven't even bothered seeing The Last Jedi. Rogue One was okay. But mostly because it was a standalone and again - new characters, new planets, new ships, etc.
I think we can add the Fast and Furious and XXX series to this list. F&F was good up until 5/6, now it's just ridiculous. XXX should have been one and done.

I thought of a few more to add to the list:
Revenge of the Nerds I really liked the original but the sequel tried too hard and the humor seemed forced. Also, Booger training with a booger master was plain dumb. Way to ruin a good thing.
Porky's I know I've seen it but I can't remember anything about it except that a lot of the humorous situations were repeated, only they were funnier the first time.
Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark was revolutionary! Prior to it, all movies had a long lag time before the action got going but Raiders of the Lost Ark started with Indiana switching out a priceless idol for a fake one, then subsequently running for his life from a giant boulder. And don't forget about the snake on the plane. Now THAT'S how you start a movie! The Temple of Doom started off just as awesome but once we actually get to the temple it's not as good. The Last Crusade should have been just as awesome because it had Sean Connery in it but it didn't live up to the previous sequels. I only saw the Crystal Skull once and I had a hard time sticking with it. It became one of those movies that I only watched to the end because I knew I would never watch it again.

The Star Wars prequels and the last three.
The prequels that show the young Anakin had potential and if you ever saw them on TNT on a binge weekend you saw the story line. However as a director Lucas, sucks, he hamstrung his lead actor from actually acting. Lucas is very much form over function and sucks all the emotion and story line from this franchise.
Now that I have Disney + for a while I am watching The Rise of Skywalker. Wow, this must be the worst film of the nine. No originally, using various plots from the middle trilogy to the point of why did they even have writers. What a waste. Its the same with the Terminator movies after 1 and 2 the rest are a monumental waste of time and do nothing for the franchise or story.
