I understand that 13 teams started, but two had to drop out after Scotland and covid pit stop (no explanation mentioned as to why). They creatively edited this show to leave out the 2 teams that were unable to return. The 11 teams we saw last night, continued when filming resumed.

Three episodes were completed prior to the shutdown in England and Scotland, and producers spent nine months coming up with a COVID-safe plan to return to production. That included using a chartered 757 plane for the entire cast — which was unveiled Friday — and crew for the remaining legs in France, Greece and Portugal as part of a new abbreviated course. Production wrapped in October with the finish line in Los Angeles.

“When production on season 33 resumed in 2021, two of the remaining teams were unable to continue the show. How does the program deal with missing contestants?
I don’t want to give away too much, but we found a way to do it without more cases of no-rejection,” executive producer Elise Donanieri said at a press event (announced). via Golden Derby). “We figured out how to lengthen a leg, things like that. We were very creative. So you will still have the same energy.”
There is speculation that Love Island couple may be one of the teams that did not return since Caro did a YouTube video on breaking up in 2020.

There’s also discussion that Connie and Sam don’t return as they recently had a child so she would have been pregnant when filming resumed in Fall of 2021.

So from people better than me analyzing the end of show footage, four pairs don’t return:
Connie and Sam
Caro and Ray
Anthony and Spencer
The gay married couple whose name is eluding me right now
And the two eliminated pairs (father and daughter and the singing policemen) return as competitors.

I noticed Anthony and Spencer weren't there as they were the celebrities I recognized. Now that you type it, I also didn't see the gay couple and don't remember the other two couples.

Apparently one of Spencer and Anthony were injured and couldn’t return.
For the married couple, reportedly a family member(s) got covid and they weren’t able to return.

Bummer about Anthony and Spencer. I really like them. And, of course, they had an incredible story. Happy to not have to see Caro and Ray anymore. Is the gay married couple the ones who had the wedding dance video go viral? I also like them - seemed a lot of fun. I felt meh about Connie and Sam - but did like their backstory of the teen they adopted. |

Distractify confirmed what ccl reported: Following the year-and-a-half-plus break, only five of those remaining nine teams came back to continue the race. Spouses Isaiah and Taylor, and Connie and Sam did not return, nor did formerly-dating couple Caro and Ray. Military veterans and close friends Anthony and Spencer also did not appear back on the show. It's unclear at this time why these aforementioned teams did not decide to come back. (Remember the days when we would freeze frames and magnify? Now we just wait one day and read the headlines. )  |
