I dont think it's an issue of being old, unfortunately today there are too many so-called offensive words. They were always offensive to the groups they slurred. We just didn't know, in many cases, where the words came from or why they were hurtful. . In the words of the great Maya Angelou: " I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better."

That term has been offensive for a long time to the Romani because of the stereotype it brings, especially in Europe. When people deliberately call people that over there they mean that the person is dirty, sexually promiscuous (if a woman) a con artist, or a thief; there is literally nothing positive about it. Personally, I've come to the conclusion that certain folks really enjoy dehumanizing people by calling them slurs and they're angry that people are pushing back and saying "don't refer to my people as this."

Anxious here too, for spring to come.

I hadn't thought of gypped being an offensive word. I did know it referred to being conned usually shorted in a monetary exchange. I see now that that word is close to the word Gypsy who are a people with a fascinating culture. aka Romani

It's probably only been in the last 10-15 years that I learned that the word Gypsy itself was offensive to the Roma people. I think many of us kind of glamorized the term and related it to some fantasy of the freedom of not being tied down. But we didn't know it was a word that was a hurtful slur associated with painful history for the people it actually refers to.

I had no idea the word was offensive. It never occurred to me where it came from.

Everything is offensive, although I think society is leaning more towards comedy and away from everything woke. Or at least I hope that is happening.

How awful. I know some people came down on the Britney conservatorship, and maybe they were right (I'm still not sure), but in this case, it seems like Amanda really did need that conservatorship. I hope she's able to get the help she needs

Something went wrong in Amanda's life ..... I remember watching her movies and tv shows and thinking what an adorable young lady ..... but then things happened to her and I don't what it was but all of sudden we are hearing that she is a bit unstable, then things escalated to Amanda needing help with her mental issues. Then it appears things for Amanda got better and she was back dating, almost getting married and now it appears she has had a set back again with today's news. So sad. I also hope she gets the help she needs.

Over the years, I've read some thinly-veiled blind items that were clearly about Amanda. If even half were true, she endured a horrific amount of sexual abuse and exploitation on sets when she was underage. I don't think that necessarily caused her mental health issues, but it certainly didn't help

Sometimes there are setbacks on the road to mental wellness. People think they are doing well for a long time and stop taking medication and relapse. What's important here to know is there was a part of her that knew she was in trouble, and reached out for help. I'm wishing her nothing but the very best.

Britney was forced to work by a person who would financially benefit under the cover that it was "in her best interest." Her conservatorship needed a set of checks and balances.

I hate that TMZ got ahold of this information. It sucks to be a celebrity and have your most vulnerable moments made public. I sure hope that the people who stopped to help her didn’t call them.

I can't believe no one is talking about the Fleismeister throwing in the towel.
After all these years - FINALLY! Doesn't mean the shows will improve, though, unfortunately.

At the end of the article it says that he has not been involved in the day-to-day for 10 years. What that says to me is the program was better when he was heavily involved, so I'm not so sure this is good news at all!

Yeah, apparently, it's not as big a deal as it might have been a decade ago. Still, his name has continued to be linked with the franchise and he set the tone many years ago.

I'm worried for Dick Van Dyke. He was in a car accident recently and his wife took away the keys, but he still wants to drive at age 97. They said he is looking really frail, but he is still trying to dance around each day and do the things that he is used to doing. He was also in a past accident where he didn't know the car started on fire, and was luckily rescued. I can appreciate his grit and his sense of jubilation, I'm just worried.

My daughter lived in Malibu for quite a few years, until about five years ago. She used to see Dick Van Dyke on occasion at the gas station pumping his own gas, and sometimes at the grocery store by himself shopping for groceries. I thought that was extremely amazing 5-10 years ago....let alone the things he continues to want to do these days! But maybe driving shouldn't be one of them at age 97 lol.
He truly is an amazing man, actor, dancer....one of my all-time favorites for sure. I still watch The Dick Van Dyke show at least once or twice a week.
Here's to hoping he can be content leaving the driving to his wife and others now.

I just adore Dick Van Dyke and I really do hope he stays safe. I worry. We have lost so many icons from my youth. I'm not ready to lose another one. And Bob Newhart better stay healthy too!

Okay, maybe he shouldn't be driving but damn, is that man spry for 97! I'm convinced that his zest for life keeps him going. I love him because so many people think that when you get old you get infirm and die, when actually life is what you make it. May he continue to dance, chase his wife around the house, and be merry.
