I have Disney Plus, but I doubt I'll be watching anymore. This was the final straw for me. I guess I'll have my Mondays free during DWTS season now. I'm not a fan of sports on TV, so I'm out as far as that goes.
If I want to watch a streaming show, there are too many other shows & movies to spend my time on.

I saw this statement and have to laugh: "Dancing with the Stars has been a beloved staple on ABC for 30 seasons and brought so much joy to millions of viewers. As we're significantly expanding our unscripted slate at ABC, this is a great opportunity to introduce this show to a whole new generation of fans on Disney+. Kids? They expect kids to want to watch this instead of something else on Disney Plus? Kids watch the show with their parents, because it's something their parents want to enjoy (with them). I doubt that kids will feel "enthusiastic" about watching it on their own though. I guess we will have to wait and see how big of a success it will be amongst the younger generation. I realize that adults watch Disney + as well, even though most of the adult content can be streamed and exhausted in just a few days. I can't help but wonder if maybe this is a punishment to the mature audience, for our annoyance over their ousting Tom and Erin? Oh well. Farewell! Wow, it only took Tyra two seasons to run the show into the ground I'll still watch, but clearly the show is on its last legs.

If they think moving the show to Disney+ it's going to bring new subscribers there, they're seriously mistaken. I'm not willing to pay extra see it.
If they're taking it off ABC to make room for new shows they like more, it really is toast, and I don't see why they are even bothering to continue filming it.
With this move, I'd imagine it will be hard to find "celebrities." They'll be even more "D-List" than they have been.

They're probably thinking that by going streaming, they can go full-Disney 24/7 in the themes and casting. Which means casting more Disney teen actors who have an album out, and more teen YouTube influencers, in an effort to get a younger audience. This of course will make the show unwatchable for the core ABC fans, most of whom are 50+.
Oh well. We had it nice for 20+ seasons...

Maybe they can turn the whole thing into one big TikTok challenge! Ken would have a heart attack.

I wonder whether they will dress Tyra up in Disney character costumes, or continue with her lavish wardrobe? Not much sense in continuing with the lavish wardrobe as teens would not be that interested in her, I would think. Maybe, they will change the host?

With all the inane changes they made last season, they really outdid themselves with this one. Disney+.....do they have any other adult directed programs on now??

They are clearing Monday nights so they can resume being the home to Monday Night Football. Figure they will have more eyes for that.

This of course will make the show unwatchable for the core ABC fans, most of whom are 50+. Oh well. We had it nice for 20+ seasons... I think this is exactly why they're doing this. They've been trying to appeal to a young audience for years. Irritating Disney teen actors, Theme nights, YouTube "influencers", etc. Things their core audience has no interest whatsoever in. I think even Tyra was a part of this attempt, although I can't imagine how or why Tyra would appeal to young people. They're probably not even all that sure who she is. The sports stars are their attempts to attract male viewers. So far their attempts have pretty much failed. I guess I can see why. They have(had) a very popular show with middle aged or older viewers, mostly women. Unfortunately nomatter how many there are, this demographic is extremely unpopular with advertizers. Even though this demographic has way more disposable income, they aren't nearly as susceptible to impulse buying on throw away items. Young people are. Another reason for the switch to streaming is that middle aged to older female viewers don't embrace the whole streaming thing. Young people do. This way they can dump more of their "unpopular" demographic. Lets face it. They don't want us. Tom was one of us. Erin was extremely liked by us. The way I see it, if they don't want me, fine. I'll go. Have fun for 1 season with your fickle "popular" demographic, until they move on to the next shiny object.

I was so surprised when I just saw on Twitter, "ABC Drops DWTS"! Of course I came here to get the scoop.... There are no children in my household, so I don't have Disney+ and won't be getting it just to watch DWTS. Sounds like they don't care though, and that's fine. They're excited about the next generation of fans, I'm wondering if they're being realistic. Oh well.

I have Disney+ and I can guarantee you it's not just a lot of little kid content. I've watched: The Beatles Get Back Both Guardians of the Galaxy movies West Side Story Hamilton Jungle Cruise a lot of the better quality cartoons like Encanto a lot of very good nature stuff among a lot of other movies/shows My son's family watch the Marvel Superhero movies I've been surprised at all the good stuff that's not just little kid stuff that's on Disney+.

The Disney Channel actually has a lot of programming that's for adults, but I think you all are right that they are hoping they can tailor this show to their teen audience.
P.S. I'm not sure it's a valid assumption to think that older women don't stream video. I'm 70, and everything I watch is streamed. I haven't had network TV or cable for over 6 years, and I wouldn't have had cable before that if it hadn't come with my apartments.

I'm also a senior woman & I also stream. From what I've seen through my own grandchildren & even my children is that their main way of watching TV is through streaming. I'm not even sure they know how to watch the traditional Network TV. Me, on the other hand, I watch more of the regular weekly Network shows, as well as the regular Network News. I stream, but usually it's if there's nothing I'm interested in on regular Network TV. Although any more that's becoming more & more common. Kids, on the other hand, don't seem to know how to do anything else. It's by far their primary, if not only, method of TV watching. I do think that eventually that's the direction TV is going. Eventually, probably not too far off, regular Plug-in-the-wall-antenna TV will be a thing of the past.

To quote the above link: "With such a big opportunity, there is a good chance that DWTS goes all out to show the younger audience on streaming services why they should be watching."
Yeah, we were right. They're going for the kids. I'll be interested to read who the new contestants will be. When I read that Tyra was out, I considered watching this season, but it looks like there will be other changes too, and not ones that will appeal to me.
I haven't completely given up on the show yet. I'll wait to read more about the new changes & the new contestants, but I don't have much hope. I'm pretty sure there's not a chance that Tom & Erin will be back. Not if they want to appeal to "younger audience".

Streaming services aren't bad if you're not paying for cable, too. One can subscribe to a lot of streaming for the same amount they'd pay for cable. The main problem with streaming only, though, is losing access to real-time network programming.

Unfortunately, that seems to be incorrect (based on DWTS’s Facebook account where they announced today that she is cohosting with a former winner.)

I'll keep up on the reveal of who the contestants are, and who the hosts are. I'll make my decision then. However, I don't have much hope for the show now.
It looks to me like the show got new people last year, making the decisions regarding the show. Personally I think they've made rotten decisions. Tyra was a terrible decision, and blatantly going after nothing but kids may put the final nails in the coffin.
Adult & senior women have been this show's bread & butter. Throwing those fans aside to pursue an elusive & very fickle demographic could be a big mistake.

Tyra Banks returns as host of 'Dancing with the Stars' on Disney+ with new co-host Alfonso Ribeiro
Thursday, July 14, 2022 11:40AM
BURBANK, Calif. -- Tyra Banks is back as host and executive producer of "Dancing with the Stars" for her third consecutive season. Joining her as co-host is former "DWTS" champion Alfonso Ribeiro.
Expert judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough also resume their seats on the ballroom floor.
"'Dancing with the Stars' has been such an important part of my life for so many years, and I am ecstatic to officially re-join this tight-knit family as co-host," said Ribeiro.
"Having such a fun-loving, longtime friend as co-host warms my heart. Plus, he's won the competition before, so he knows exactly what the stars are going through. Bantering back and forth with him live is going to be so much fun!" said Banks.
After 30 seasons on ABC, "Dancing with the Stars" moves to its new home on Disney+, premiering exclusively in the U.S. and Canada this fall, and making "Dancing with the Stars" the first live series to debut on the streaming service.

I like Alfonso too. I just hope he's enough to tone down (way down) Tyra. I've never had a problem with her at all, until last season. She was way too over the top, her costumes were way too over the top, and I think someone forgot to tell her that ultimately this show is supposed to be about the contestants & their dancing. She thought it was supposed to be all about her.
Hopefully Alfonso can redirect things back to the contestants.
Unfortunately I think she owns part of the show. They can't get rid of her.

I like Alfonso better than Tyra but he too does enjoy making himself the focus. It should be interesting to see them together...they certainly won't be a Tom and Erin---both of whom worked to making the dancers and the show the focus.

As previously shared, the show will be moving to Disney+ and it will be adding a co-host for Tyra Banks in the form of Season 18 Mirrorball Trophy winner Alfonso Ribeiro.
And now, we can tell you that DWTS will keep its Monday night time slot with the announcement that it will premiere on Disney+ on Sept. 19.
