Heartbreaking. The movie "Fame" still hits hard and is timeless, and her performance was part of the reason why. It was such a shame she was in litigation with her record label for so long because her career should have been a lot bigger than what it was. Even so, she managed to win an Oscar and other accolades, and good for her. From her publicists reaction her death was very unexpected.

That’s a hard one. I was a young dancer when Fame and then Flashdance came out. Irene Cara was so wildly talented, and far too young to be gone Kao I watched Fame not that long ago and it still just as great. So many wonderful performances and an incredible soundtrack.

I remember how popular the movie Fame was. I was still just a little bit too young to see it when it came out so I didn't "get" a lot of it even when I saw it. I do remember thinking it was good movie. 63 is so young. I'm not sure if I'm remembering it right but did she have some mental health issues at some point? Not saying if she did that it lead to her death but it might be possible.

Still sad about Irene Cara; seeing so many clips of her on social media really sheds light on how talented she was at such a young age. I also didn't know she was from the Bronx.

I always dread seeing the 'NEW' notice in front of this thread! Will it be some beloved celebrity from our past, bringing up all kinds of wonderful nostalgic memories, or will it be someone we don't know, (and maybe we'll have a slight sigh of relief that, just this once, we won't have to suffer the pain of losing someone that we were so fond of).

Yes! Jimi Hendrix as born November 27, 1942....he would have been 80 last week! I cannot wrap myself around what an 80-year-old Hendrix would look like now!
Keith Richards will be 79 this month. I think he will outlive us all!

I hadn't heard that Kirstie had been ailing. 71 is just too young. May she rest in peace.

Thanks for posting that. She had some controversial opinions but it sounds like she had a great joy and love of life.
