Great season! The sisters seemed very tired. That last leg was a lot. I was following where they were on a map, and getting from the garage to those places was a bit of a trek. I don't know how they did the piano thing. And Broadway with all of those people is an absolute nightmare.
I hope they continue to cast likable people.

Great season, great finale episode, maybe my all time favorite final 3, anyone could have won and I'd be thrilled. I felt tears in but not out of my eyes when Derek and Claire won but when the twins came on the tears left in torrents. All 3 of them - such great stories, such kind to each other. Loved this season. I dont care about how things have changed without flights and roadblocks, I just want to see fun couples travel the world having fun in a competition setting. No complaints AR! Still love it as much as season 1.

So happy for Derek and Claire! I almost screamed when he started to get down on one knee. That was probably the most likable final three I can remember. Great season. That was hysterical. Claire saying: stop, it's a joke; I know, because I packed the bag and there is no ring in there!
Such a great couple. I saw their YouTube video about the biggest fight they ever had which occurred on the race, when they were lost and Derek had to do a "hundred point" turn in what looked like an alley that dead ended. Claire wasn't reading the legend correctly (much like Aubrey for David). They were frustrated and shouting at each other, and Derek said, "let's pause this, and discuss later when we are in the hotel room". Later, they then calmly and maturely discussed every navigational mistake they made after the leg was finished, back in the hotel. They decided to study the map legend, and interpret it in distance and minutes. Then Claire would tell Derek in terms of miles and minutes when he would turn in future legs. He doesn't remember names of places easily. So Claire would put the destination key points on post-it-notes that he would place on the dashboard so that Derek could also read and watch the road signs quickly. They communicate well!
To be able to calmly put something on hold in the heat of the moment, then rationally discuss it later, is good communication. They are a great couple, and I wish them a long life together. (First chapter in a long book.)

I love them! I was cheering them on as soon as I saw that they were going to be on this season. I am thrilled that they won. I love the twins too, & they were my 2nd choice to win. They were so cute with how they were so alike in so many ways (like the hard boiled egg thing - that was hilarious), but Molly seemed to be much less intense than Emily. It's so cool that they found each other. I keep wondering if either set of parents knew they were adopting a twin.

I didn't realize it, but I saw an article today that said that final leg was the fifth time Derek and Claire came in first. So, I checked Wiki and yes, they did win 5 legs of the race. 1st leg, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th.
Luis and Michelle won 4th, 5th, and 8th legs.
Molly and Emily only won one leg. That's nine legs of the race won by just these top three amazing teams.
If anyone reads or hears how Emily is doing with her leg, I hope you will share with us. I'm hoping she has made a full recovery.

I am really enjoying this TVline interview with Derek and Claire so if you are interested here is the link.
These two
What did you do to prepare?
DEREK | A lot of things! Luis and Michelle were probably prepped the most. They were preparing every single night. Claire and I, for three weeks before the race started, did a little boot camp with her family. We were staying with Claire’s mom and dad in Virginia Beach, and they taught us how to drive stick shift. They would put us in the back of their pickup truck, blindfolded, and drop us off in the middle of nowhere. CLAIRE | With a paper map, and be like, “Figure it out. Get back!”
DEREK | We were doing daily runs, practicing languages, dancing and singing, surprisingly. We were running the whole gamut for weeks. Watching as much Race as we could. CLAIRE | We had all the [country] flags down. We rewatched so many old seasons and took copious notes like, “Why do teams go out? Why do teams do well? How can we do that?” We listened to past racers’ podcasts, any tips we could get, really. The one thing my mom really wanted us to do was practice with tools. She was like, “Why don’t you go flip over all of the wood on the back dock.” And we were like, “Nah, I think we’ll be fine. I don’t think we need to know tools.” And of course, I run into two building challenges where I’m like, “My mom and dad are so mad that we didn’t prep for this! What were we thinking?”
TVLINE | I’m guessing another thing you didn’t prepare for, Claire, was yodeling! Was that the hardest part of this race for you or did something else suck even more than that? CLAIRE | OK, well I’ve come to find out my great grandma was a professional yodeler, so I have yodeling in my blood! My grandma was like, “I don’t know what happened to those genes!” DEREK | They were recessive… CLAIRE | They did not get through! That was definitely hard, but the Ducati factory may have been worse. Yodeling was rough, because I just saw all of the teams come and all of the teams go. I was like, “Oh, no, this is going to cost us.” DEREK | No, I saw all the teams come and go! Yodeling may not have been the hardest challenge for Claire, but it was the hardest challenge for me to watch. CLAIRE | That’s probably fair. The tasks themselves are hard, but it’s the strain it takes on you mentally to think, “I’m not capable. I can’t yodel! What else won’t I be able to do?” It’s very scary on the Race. They can throw anything at you! I might have to square dance next. Who knows what’ll happen? A negative mindset can be very detrimental.

Well, it took me combing through 5 articles, before I found what I was looking for, but finally.....Emily leg has fully healed from fractures in both legs! Gold Derby: How is your leg? What was the exact injury? Emily: What is the official — you say it so beautifully. Molly: She had bilateral stress fractures. Stress fractures in her tibia and both of her knees. Emily: Thank you. My left leg was fractured. It was a deeper fracture. I dunno if deeper is the right word, but it was a bigger fracture. [Laughs] I think the right leg was fractured in Nashville because I didn’t have any pain until I got home the next day. It was a lot. My bones are fully healed. It took about eight weeks. I’ve been in physical therapy. I hope to get back up and running within the next month. A heartwarming article about the twins.

One more question that I had was how far ahead were Claire and Derek over Molly and Emily, because it looked so close via edit. They arrived 15 minutes ahead of the twins.
As mentioned in a second Gold Derby article.
Also, Claire jumped into Derek's arms and her head smashed into Derek's face resulting in a nose bleed which was cut out of the finale. I thought Phil looked a bit concerned, but had no idea why. I thought maybe he was hoping it was the twins. No, it was Derek having difficulty answering questions while pinching his nose to stop the bleed.

Rob has a podcast interviewed all three of the final 3 teams.
Derek was hoarse, and could barely talk. He blamed that on celebrating with Luis to much at the Finale the night before. They intentionally focused on Claire getting her 6 roadblocks in early, because they thought physical challenges would be toward the end, and Derek was supposed to do all the physical. But each of them did complete 6 roadblocks, and saving Derek for the end, paid off.
It was good seeing the twins again, I learned that Molly lost her mother just the week before they found out they would be on the race. That was hard for her to get through. They did no prep for the show at all, because they never thought they would get picked. They really enjoyed the entire cast a lot, felt close to everyone, but Molly and her husband have been able to spend more time with Luis and Michelle, (FL) and feel especially close with them. They would enjoy doing an all star season of the Amazing Race if offered. As mentioned earlier Emily two fractures, and both knees have fully healed. (I'm so proud of myself, by the last show, I was finally able to tell them apart and can correctly recognize them even if they are dressed a like.) Luis and Michelle had their lighted Christmas tree behind them in the interview. They knew going in they wanted to enjoy each moment of the race, and they did. They said it was a lot harder than they expected. They really loved and respected the production crew. Unfortunately, that last challenge had them one hour behind. When Derek and Claire ran out, they were overwhelmed with sadness. (I think that came across in the finale. It was as if all of the air was released from the balloon.) But, they are so appreciative of every moment on the race.

This was one of my favourite seasons. The travel was fabulous and the casting was great. I really liked all the finalists and it was so nice to see minimal drama. I also appreciated the no non elimination legs.

Finally watched the final. Rooting for the twins amazed they got into the top three and second place finish.
Did they ever discuss the navigation errors they seemed to have over and over again?

They did Bearcata. They said in one interview that they made other mistakes too, that were never shown on the show. Overall, they were very pleased to have come in 2nd despite everything. I understood that they were just about 15 minutes behind Derek and Claire reaching the final pit stop, which attests to their indomitable spirit as well as their quick thinking intelligence. I can’t even imagine walking that distance or dancing on a piano with knee fractures.

Still love it as much as season 1 I hope they keep the chartered plane. I think it allows the teams to go through customs quickly and get on racing as soon as possible. While expensive I wonder if having the chartered plane it can carry the teams and the camera and sound guys with them that overall the costs are cuts and they can film quicker this way.

Everyone gets paid:
With $1 million being the grand prize for the first place winners, Men's Health also revealed that the runners-up get an amount of $25,000 to split between them, while the team that comes in third wins an amount of $10,000. The team in 11th place gets the lowest cash prize of $1,500, while the team placing in the 10th position gets awarded $2,500. From here, the winnings increase by $500 all the way up, to 4th place.
I wonder if Derrick and Claire will ever appear on another season of Big Brother, or Derrick get another chance at The Challenge?

Can you imagine how close this race would have been if the twins didn't make any navigational mistakes and were healthy? Regardless there were three people of Asian descent in the top two teams. I really didn't notice as they were just all teams I was rooting for but just a nod to diversity there.
