Did anyone else watch the premiere? I thought it was excellent. I'm not familiar with the video game on which it's based, so I came into it without any preconceived ideas about what the characters should look like. I'm a big fan of both Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and several of the supporting actors and thought they were terrific in the premiere.
I love the idea of the fungus being the cause of the pandemic. I thought the writing was terrific, as was the acting. The production values were top notch. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
The show currently has a 9.5 on imdb and a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. I hope the rest of the season keeps up that quality!

Pedro and Bella actually do favor the video game characters, which is neat.
I thought the premiere was fantastic. Great acting, a story that's really not far-fetched, and the "infected" are scary as hell. I always preferred the fast moving zombies in 28 Days Later over the slow ones in Walking Dead, much more frightening. That scene with grandma...*shiver*
Looking forward to more!

I wish we could see it, a lot of it was filmed in my province.

So good, and a video game adaption that is more than good and actually delivers! The scene with Pedro and his daughter at the border was heartbreaking.
That dog was not here for Grandma or any of that, lol. Animals know.

I saw some fussing about Pedro being Hispanic (the character in the game isn't) and how Bella doesn't look like the character in the game. Some people have NO imagination! You can't just build the actor in a lab so that they look exactly like they're "supposed to."
I do admit that as a bookworm, I do tend to get annoyed when a book or series I love is adapted for the screen and they make changes, but the changes usually aren't too drastic. It's not like that awful Scarlet Letter movie with Demi Moore, where she defended the pretty major changes they made to the plot by saying that not that many people have read the book.....the one that's considered a classic of American literature
Walking Dead is one of my all-time favorite shows, so I would have watched this even if it wasn't great. Turns out, it IS! I'm totally on board for as long as they let this show run.
That moment when the grandmother is changing, but you only see it out of focus over Sarah's shoulder, was chilling.
For now, at least, it sounds like this couldn't happen to people, but this article details how a similar fungus attacks ants:

Oh good grief. No, the actors won't look exactly like the CGI video game characters, but they're close enough: There's always a pack of basement dwelling dweebs who wail about any little change to a game/movie adaptation. They're both great actors, give them a chance and just enjoy the show.

Well this week's episode was sad as hell. I really liked all of Bill's booby traps and warning systems he had set up. He had that place locked DOWN.

I watched Episode 2 the other day and it was sad as well. Can't wait to watch Episode 3 and then I'll be caught up.

Annnd the hits just keep coming. I thought those two characters would join the adventure to Montana...so sad. This episode was definitely a boss level. What was that thing that came out of the pit??!

Is anyone watching "The Last of Us"? I've watched the first episode: the story seems pretty engrossing and the acting is good. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic sci-fi-- although I tend to avoid zombie stories like the plague--but they so far have kept zombies mostly at a distance, with one or two major exceptions-- which are foreseeable, and plot-driven. But there aren't random zombies jumping out from every hedge and roadside stopping point. Maybe they do drag a few plot twists out a bit more than necessary. I wondered it anyone has seen all of what's been released, and could tell me if it seems worth sticking with it, and if the zombie-per-minute of character development ratio stays pretty low..

It's very survival horror and if that's your thing, stick with it. They seem to be sticking pretty close to key game plots and it's a very engrossing story but also very bleak.

It is pretty bleak. I haven’t really been in the mood to watch again. Just hearing that the two guys killed themselves made it seem so much less promising. I’m not sure I saw how they would fit into the plot but the story spent a lot of time annd energy on them. It’s dangerous to get the audience invested in characters and then kill them off right away. It diminishes an already diminished world that much more. So far every character except the central two has died and I don’t think I find either of them individually, or their relationship, interesting enough to sustain a whole show.

The things you mention make the series what it is. There's a lot of world building and expanding on different stories in the game and one thing that hits home is no one is safe. On the one hand, I like that they went into the back stories and motivations of the minor characters but yeah, the couple that killed themselves and the little boy in 1.5.....heartbreaking. With all due respect, this might not be the show for you.
Speaking of 1.5, that scene where the truck creates a sinkhole in the ground and the infected just....boil out of it, along with that huge...thing, oh no. I find it's good to space out the episodes because you definitely need some time to reflect and prepare for the next episode, it's too emotionally taxing a show to binge-watch.

Yikes. Both Joel and Ellie woke up and chose violence this episode. But that creepy, rape-y, cannibal "leader" won't be missed. I wonder...can Ellie infect someone if she bites them, or has she cleared the Cordyceps from her system? Hm. I need something good to happen to our protagonists for a change, they've been beat up all season. Only one episode left!

As always, I have trouble with animal stuff, so I had to mute the horse stuff. I can't handle it. I'm still not over Buttons on TWD (and don't even talk to me about Shiva).
I think I wondered after GOT if Bella Ramsey was maybe a one-note actor. She definitely isn't! Being great in one role is nice, but it doesn't make a career. I think Bella is a star.
I can't believe the finale is next week. It feels like it just started.

I need to catch up, I'm still on 1.6! I had to take a break after 1.5, that one...was a bit much.

I know what you mean, Kao - I got behind watching when I was visiting my folks. When I got home, it took a while to catch up. It was like that with L ovecraft Country too. I had to watch and then take some time to process before I watch the next episode.

I still haven't finished Lovecraft Country because it was just...yeah. After the Black Wall Street episode I didn't have the heart to watch the last episode; it hurt too much.

I loved seeing Ellie take kver. She tended to Joel, got medicine, fought tooth and nail against the cannibals, and came out the survivor. The scene where Ellie and Joel meet up, was tear inducing.

Is it me or was that finale really short? I needed at least 20 more minutes. Joel was not playing with those hospital people. I probably would have made the same decision as he did, even if it's not for the "greater good."

15 hours later and thinking about Ellie saying "so time heals all wounds?" and Joel saying "it wasn't time that did it" still chokes me up. SUCH a good show and I usually avoid zombies. I especially liked how the infected were there and a threat, but not all the time every single place.

This is the first episode where I really saw the video game behind the show - it was when Joel was shooting Fireflies in the hospital. waywyrd - it really did feel short. I was surprised when the credits started.
