This is a spinoff show from the GBBO universe that features professional pastry chefs from famous restaurants, hotels, and specialty bakeries. It's a regular series on Channel 4 but is premiering on Netflix. The contestants compete in teams creating some pretty amazing things, but the critiques are a bit harsher than on the regular GBBO; a judge actually shook his head sadly and told one pair "Now, you know you made something ugly" in a delectable French accent, lol. Pastry chef Cherish Finden and chef patissier Benoit Blin are the judges and like I mentioned while they can sometimes be harsh when they are pleased they are REALLY pleased; I loved Cherish telling a team "You know when I say I want to have a doggie bag that I really like this!" Fan GBBO Favorite Liam Charles and Tom Allen are the hosts and I think Liam's found his calling because he has the right personality for this, plus he meshes well with Tom.
The bakes are everything from cakes to confectionery delights, and has a slightly different format; instead of the Signature, Blind, and Showstopper bakes the patisserie chefs competing are asked to first show their prowess making Miniatures, then tackling a Secret Recipe, and then there’s a Showpiece Challenge that takes a few days to complete; they sandwich the Minatures and Secret Recipe challenge between the big Showpiece. I think some of the teams suffered from the obvious time restraints because some of the bakes literally fell apart and it's such an upsetting thing when that happens. Overall, it's a fun addition to the GBBO universe and I hope we get more seasons on Netflix. I can also say that I like Benoit and Cherish a bit more than Paul and Prue because Benoit is delightful even when he's being bitchy, and Cherish is so enthusiastic about everything, even the things she doesn't like, lol.
