ANW kicked off Season 10 last night in Dallas. Next week is also on Wednesday due to the Stanley Cup Finals. Some major changes for Season 10: 1) The minimum age requirement has been dropped from 21 to 19. Bout time! Dunno why it took ten seasons for this change to be made... 2) A new 18-foot Mega Wall has been added for the city qualifiers, next to the existing 14.5-foot Warped Wall. Competitors now have a choice --- Three shots at the Warped Wall or one shot at the Mega Wall. Successfully climbing the Mega Wall is worth $10K. If failed, the competitor then gets only one shot at the Warped Wall. 3) The last remaining person still alive in the Vegas Finals now gets $100K. Previously, only the winner won money, but since there have been only one winner of ANW, it made sense to offer some prize each season. Daniel Gil became the first competitor to make it up the Mega Wall. Seven others failed the Mega Wall. 13 competitors finished the Dallas qualifier. Two women made the Top 30 (Karen Wiltin and Quest O’Neal). Mathis Owhadi became the first 19-year-old to make it up the Warped Wall and finish a qualifier. At age 56, Jon Stewart became the oldest competitor to finish a qualifier, breaking his own record. Number of competitors: 106 Falls on Floating Steps: 6 Falls on Catch and Release: 30 Falls on Bouncing Spider: 22 Falls on Tuning Forks: 22 Falls on Crank It Up: 12 Fails at the Warped Wall: 1

Are links to YouTube videos not allowed here?
I tried to create a link to the song "How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away?" by Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, and the YouTube address disappeared. The link just circled back to the page here.

This week was the Los Angeles Qualifier, complete with a dinosaur roaming the sideline, as it was Jurassic World Night.
The fifth obstacle (Doorknob Drop) was pretty tough, as 27 of the 100 competitors fell on it.
Ten finished the qualifier course, one women (Tiana Webberley) made the Top 30. Adam Rayl and Nick Hanson both made it up the Mega Wall. Four others failed it.
Selena Laniel at age 43 became the oldest femaie to reach the fifth obstacle.
Number of competitors: 100 Falls on Floating Steps: 9 Falls on Jumper Cables: 22 Falls on Spinning Bridge: 17 Falls on Sky Hooks: 15 Falls on Doorknob Drop: 27 Fails on the Warped Wall: 0

Last season, someone here complained about the "POM Wonderful Crazy Healthy Run of the Night" being an episode spoiler. Well, we don't have to worry about it anymore --- POM is no longer a sponsor of ANW BTW, in the Dallas qualifier, April Steiner Bennett made it to the Tuning Forks but did not advance to the City Final because she broke her ankle (dislocating it) in a nasty fall from the Tuning Forks

I stayed up way too late last night watching the LA Qualifiers, so you can imagine my distress when I let out a rather loud shriek when the Eskimo Ninja, whose name I'm blanking on, made it up the big wall. I was so afraid that I'd woken up my downstairs neighbors. :O

NOTE: Next week ANW moves back to Mondays, but at a new time --- 9pm (instead of 8pm). Isaac Caldiero (the only ANW winner) makes his return next week after missing two seasons. This week was the Miami qualifier. Remember last season when someone practically split his face open doing a faceplant on the Fly Wheels? Well, the Fly Wheels is back again, with no apparent design change. Nobody faceplanted this episode though! Jessie Graff became the first woman to finish a qualifier this season. 11 competitors finished the qualifier. Ryan Stratis made it up the Mega Wall. Five others failed it. Three women (Graff, Rachael Goldstein and Lindsay Eskildsen) made the Top 30. Number of competitors: 101 Falls on Floating Steps: 7 Falls on Fly Wheels: 25 Falls on Razor’s Edge: 13 Falls on Ring Turn: 23 Falls on Slippery Summit: 22 Fails at Warped Wall: 0

This week was the Indianapolis Qualifier. Jesse Labreck became the second woman to finish a qualifier this season, and the first woman to attempt the Mega Wall. In his first season back since winning ANW, Isaac Caldiero couldn't make it up the Mega Wall, but completed the course.
For the first time, nobody made it up the Mega Wall, with eight attempts this week. Ten completed the course. Three women (Labreck, Nicole Martinez, Jeri D’Aurelio) made the Top 30.
Number of competitors: 110 Fails on Floating Steps: 6 Fails on Cannonball Drop: 32 Fails on Wheel Flip: 22 Fails on Block Run: 19 Fails on Spin Hopper: 21 Fails on Warped Wall: 0

Viewer Note: ANW takes the holiday week off. The next new episode is the Minneapolis qualifier on July 9.
This week was the Philadelphia qualifier. It rained a lot that night, so only 85 competed instead of the usual 100 or so. The new obstacle Lightning Bolts was difficult, as 21 fell on it.
History was made when a record three women (Casey Rothschild, Michelle Warnky, and Allyssa Beird) finished the course on the same night.
Casey Rothschild at age 20 became the youngest female to finish a course.
12 competitors finished the course, with the three women making the Top 30. Two competitors made it up the Mega Wall and eight failed it.
Number of competitors: 85 Fails on Floating Steps: 5 Fails on Spinning Bowties: 17 Fails on Broken Bridge: 15 Fails on Wingnuts: 15 Fails on Lightning Bolts: 21 Fails at Warped Wall: 0

Only having 12 competitors finish seems really low. I guess the lightning bolt was really hard. It's funny, because it didn't look like it would be that much harder than other similar events.
It was nice to see Chris Wocheski (sp?) come back from his trauma and have the extra success of making it up the Mega Wall. In spite of the pressure of a comeback, he seemed more relaxed somehow. I seem to remember him as being really intense before.

Yeah, twelve is a little low. OTOH, we had 10, 10, and 11 finishers earlier this season. The record low is eight finishers set last season in Denver. Perhaps we'll get a record low for total qualifier finishers? We're at 56 with one qualifier left... I'm glad there are less than 15 finishers every week. For one, it gets kinda boring seeing a lot of finishers, and two, by not having a lot of finishers, that'll help encourage folks to try the Mega Wall, as only one person who failed the Mega Wall also failed the Warped Wall.

The Weatherman Joe Moravsky is my favorite ninja. He didn’t disappoint last night. I could have done without his little tantrum at the end though. I know he is good, he knows he is good, but taking his shoes off and pouting about not making it up the mega wall was childish. I know he was disappointed, but he finished with the fastest time of the night. Be happy!

So last week was Minneapolis, the last city qualifier. The Ring Jump was a returning obstacle, but still very difficult, as a third of the competitors fell on it. Plus the Ring Jump is deadly, as two competitors cut their heads on it. Maybe next year ANW will require helmets to be worn? 14 competitors finished the course, with two women making the Top 30. Abby Clark was lone woman to finish the course. No one climbed the Mega Wall, with 11 failed attempts. One person failed the Warped Wall after failing the Mega Wall. Number of competitors: 99 Falls on Floating Steps: 6 Falls on Double Twister: 24 Falls on Ring Jump: 38 Falls on Diamond Dash: 7 Falls on Battering Ram: 9 Fails on Warped Wall: 1 Mega Wall failed attempts: 11

Only having 12 competitors finish seems really low. I guess the lightning bolt was really hard. It's funny, because it didn't look like it would be that much harder than other similar events. So it turns out that only 70 competitors total finished the six qualifiers. I'm guessing that's a new six-city low, though two competitors failed the Warped Wall after failing the Mega Wall. But six women finished the qualifier this season. I'm guessing that's a record... 14 women total made the Top 30, so the city finals will have 180+16 other women so 196 total competitors. There were six successful Mega Wall attempts this season with 43 failed attempts. I expect both numbers to increase next season as the competitors start training for it.

This week was the Los Angeles Finals. A couple changes were made to the finals course this season.
The first obstacle, Floating Steps was replaced by the Archer Steps. Dunno why they bothered to change it, as it looked very easy and none of the 34 competitors fell on it.
And the last obstacle, Elevator Climb was replaced by the Spider Trap. It's the old Spider Climb with a new twist. Competitors have to climb 35 feet past three new sets of doorways, with each door weighing 50 pounds each. The new obstacle didn't seem too difficult, as there was only one failure in ten attempts.
And there was a new twist this week. For the first time on ANW, a competitor's run was shown split-screen during a full commercial break! I expected to return from break just before Nick Hanson fell on the Baton Pass, but surprisingly he fell during the break and there was no mention of his run once the break ended.
Nine competitors finished the course. Tiana Webberley and Anna Shumaker advanced but didn't make the Top 15. It was disappointing that Grant McCartney did not advance. He fell on the ninth obstacle but he took his time and missed out on the last remaining spot.
Competitors: 34 Falls on Archer Steps: 0 Falls on Jumper Cables: 2 Falls on Spinning Bridge: 5 Falls on Flying Shelf Grab: 2 Falls on Doorknob Drop: 1 Fails at Warped Fall: 0 Falls on Salmon Ladder: 3 Falls on Giant Cubes: 4 Falls on Baton Pass: 7 Falls on Spider Trap: 1

I missed Nick's run. I was watching online afterwards, and I don't think they did the split screen, but I was doing other stuff during the ads, so I wouldn't know. I couldn't believe how much Grant dinked around and wasted time, but I got the impression that he was either out of shape or not feeling well and needed to rest between obstacles.

This week was the Dallas Finals, which meant there were multiple Kacy sightings during the show For the second time this season, there was a movie theme on ANW. This time around, there was an obstacle (Fallout) named after the movie (Mission Impossible: Fallout). There were Fallout movie banners around the ninth obstacle. Two of seven competitors fell on it. One woman actually failed the Archer Steps but none of the five attempts on the Spider Trap failed. Once again, a competitor's run was shown split-screen during a full commercial break. Thomas Stillings fell on Fallout with his run ending just before returning from the break. I'm guessing we won't be seeing a run continuing after a break ends. Mathis Owhadi and Matthew Day became the first 19-year-olds to finish a city final course. Five competitors finished the course. Barclay Stockett and Brittany Hanks advanced but neither made the Top 15. Number of competitors: 33 Falls on Archer Steps: 1 Falls on Catch and Release: 2 Falls on Bouncing Spider: 4 Falls on Broken Bridge: 2 Falls on Crank It Up: 3 Fails at Warped Wall: 0 Falls on Salmon Ladder: 3 Falls on Nail Clipper: 11 Falls on Fall Out: 2 Falls on Spider Trap: 0

This week was the Miami Finals. BTW, this is the first season where some of the obstacles used on a city qualifier were replaced on that city's final.
This week the Cannonball Drop replaced the Fly Wheels used in qualifying as the second obstacle. It was a huge change, as ten of the 32 competitors fell on it!
The new obstacle Crazy Clocks was pretty tough, as nine of the 14 competitors fell on it. Nobody failed the Archer Steps and none of the three attempts on the Spider Trap failed.
Casey Suchoki fell on Crazy Clocks and was shown split-screen during a commercial break. Once again, his run ended just before returning from the break.
The split-screen runs have a couple differences: the time isn't shown but the name of the obstacle is shown.
Only three competitors finished the course. For the first time, both women who advanced also made the Top 15. Jessie Graff (5th) fell on the ninth obstacle (Stair Hopper). Rachael Goldstein (14th) fell on the Crazy Clocks.
Competitors: 32 Falls on Archer Steps: 0 Falls on Cannonball Drop: 10 Falls on Razor’s Edge: 1 Falls on Ring Turn: 1 Falls on Slippery Summit: 4 Fails at Warped Wall: 0 Falls on Salmon Ladder: 2 Falls on Crazy Clocks: 9 Falls on Stair Hopper: 2 Falls on Spider Trap: 0

This week was the Indianapolis Finals. The new obstacle Cane Lane was pretty tough, as nine of the 13 competitors fell on it. One person failed the Spider Trap.
Surprised that ANW veteran Brian Arnold was picked for the commercial break, rather than some no-name schmuck. Arnold fell on Cane Lane, but nevertheless earned his seventh trip back to the National Finals. Once again, his run ended just before returning from the break.
Only three competitors finished the course. Jesse Labreck finished 12th. Jeri D’Aurelio also advanced. Total shocker that ANW winner Isaac Caldiero fell on the fourth obstacle Block Run and did not advance.
Competitors: 32 Falls on Archer Steps: 0 Falls on Fly Wheels: 3 Falls on Wheel Flip: 6 Falls on Block Run: 2 Falls on Spin Hopper: 5 Fails at Warped Wall: 0 Falls on Salmon Ladder: 2 Falls on The Clacker: 1 Falls on Cane Lane: 9 Falls on Spider Trap: 1

Isaac Caldiero falling was a shocker, but I kind of wasn't surprised. He's back, but his heart hasn't seemed to be in it. He was so exciting to watch back in the early years, but something about him has felt off since he came back.
I really thought Jesse LaBreck might finish last night. She was doing so well before that cane obstacle took her out. I know a lot of us got kind of tired of all of the Casey hype over the years, but it's pretty impressive that, with all of the amazing female Ninjas, she's the only one in all these years that has managed to finish a city qualifier course.
That cane obstacle was really tough. I couldn't believe that only three people finished the course. There were some really enjoyable people last night. I liked the deaf guy that stopped and got people to sign "Beat that wall!" for him. Very touching!

I think they should have called Cane Lane a different name. They could have called it Candy Cane Lane and had the cane used by the contestants be red and white striped like a candy cane. What a missed opportunity! Plus Cane Lane just sounds so lame.
