I also have a tough time understanding what James is saying half the time.

I really just don't care for Rachel. Personally, I question whether she drinks all day, every day. A nip here & there... She's really weird & crude, & she's a very obnoxious drunk. I hope to never see her again. I don't care how amazing her skills are. Her personality is awful. She's totally strange, I agree. But what would we have to talk about if everyone was wonderful and perfect Plenty of drama between Francesca & Elizabeth, & now the James factor. We had plenty to talk about with Sunshine too. And the guests have provided some good drama this season, especially that first charter, & Dolores.

Yay! So it looks like Capt Glen is the only one returning from the first season?

Yay! So it looks like Capt Glen is the only one returning from the first season? Yup! I am guessing Covid played a role in why some crew weren’t brought back. Maybe they couldn’t leave 🤷🏻♀️

Great point! The first season had some people I really liked - but you're right during WWHL interviews they'd talk about being on boats that were in dry dock but they had to stay on them. So bet that did play into their ability to come back.

The Galley Talk episodes of Below Deck are becoming a favorite of mine. I normally don’t get excited about Bravos ways to recycle a show but they’ve done this right. It was really touching last night to watch how all six of them were moved by watching Capt Lee talk about losing his son. Their love and respect for him was evident.

I've always loved Josiah so it's great seeing him. He was so funny on the last episode talking in an American accent

I’m trying to put this as politely as I can ... is it possible that Rachel’s bathroom problems were not from an infection but rather because she said to f her up the a so often that her booty got nervous it would happen repeatedly and revolted?

nee more thought from last night - is it possible that some of the reason Izzy is struggling to be respected as lead deckhand is due to the way Eddie went about promoting her? He's been so professional and people focused in how he deals with things this season - but in promoting her, he just kind of asked her if she could handle it. Would he have built up her confidence better had he listed some of the things she's done well and reasons why she was being promoted? Same when announcing it to the rest of the crew. Had he called a meeting of the deck crew and announced that Izzy was being promoted and laid out what that meant instead of just mentioning at breakfast "Hey, it's her first day as lead deckhand" would it have sent more of a message that she was in the role for a reason and deserved respect?
I feel like all season, Eddie has been so good at his job that it's felt like he was on the verge of being a captain. But in this move, it feels like he fell back into his old "I want everyone to like me" Eddie ways.

Hang on...Elizabeth is 30?....Thirty???...I mean I saw it once it sunk in but she's seemed sooooo immature and dumb all season I thought she was younger. She's the same age as Chess, no wonder Chess is losing her mind working with her.
Equally shocking was finding out that Rob...my fellow Canuck...was 32. Why are most the Canadians on the show donkeys? Rob's act towards Liz deserves a slap (from Cpt Lee/Eddie?). I've questioned Liz's behaviour a few times this season but she certainly deserved her promotion over James and Rob. Rob completely flipped a switch as soon as she was named "lead shammy".

I was really annoyed last night by the way the women were so reluctant to assert themselves. When Izzy went to Eddie for advice on how to handle the disrespect from the other deckhands, I thought his advice was spot on. But I was disappointed that the way she handled it initially with them, and how she talked to Eddie about it, was so meek. I got the impression that when she first started talking to Eddie she was hoping he'd jump in Captain Sandy style and take care of it immediately - and threw in the "Do you have advice on how I can handle it" when she saw he wasn't going to swoop in. I think he did a much better job than Sandy in the way he armed her to take care of it - though it seems she never got up the courage to follow through with it.
Then, Francesca basically did the same thing when it came to firing Elizabeth. Why couldn't she be more direct? I think she made the situation worse because she was so nervous to do it. Maybe she was also thinking Capt Lee would do the heavy lifting? I give Lee credit for having her be the one to say the words - and maybe he should have prepared her for that before they did it (maybe he did and we didn't see it). But I was not impressed with the way she hemmed and hawed.
Women are stronger leaders than what we're seeing in these two!!!

Francesca is the worst chief stew ever. If it had been Kate I think she would have tried to help Elizabeth more, not whine and cry about not wanting to work with her. I really hope Francesca is not back next season.

I like Francesca, and I think overall she's been fine. I agree that Kate is better and would have been more direct. But I think we've certainly seen worse chief stews. I'd give Adreienne from season 1 the title of worst. I'd also put Francesca ahead of Jenna from Sailing Yacht. IN all honesty, while I think Hannah started out strong on Med, I think Fracesca has done a better job than her later seasons.
I think the problem Francesca has, which is the problem a lot of managers have, is that she does not understand that some of the things she says are not heard in the way she intends them. So she gets caught up in proving she's right instead of just finding a way to move forward. I think this was at the core of her conflicts with Rachel (and it does not help that Rachel is the same way - neither of them comprehend that they BOTH made mistakes that contributed to the mahi mix up). I feel empathy for her dealing with Elizbeth - it would get exhausting to have to debate every correction she tries to make with Elizabeth. Elizabeth is one of those people who doesn't see rank, and thinks assignments from Francesca call for collaboration and adjustments instead of just doing them. There are ways that Francesca could adjust how she deals with Elizabeth to make her feel like she's come up with the ideas to get her work done - but it's probably tough to do that in the environment of yacht with a culture of rank where orders are followed. Eddie has commented several times that when Elizabeth is told to do something she should just do it. That's the expectation. I get why Francesca has gotten to a point of not even trying anymore. I think Francesca has made two huge mistakes - 1) confronting Elizabeth about sleeping in the guest cabin in front of everyone else 2) talking about the decision to fire her with Ashling. Other than that, I think she's been doing the best she can with a terrible crew member who thinks she should be able to debate things she has no place debating.

I like Francesca as well and think she's done a pretty good job. I would loose my mind working with Elizabeth...no matter how many times Elizabeth was told how to do something she would still not execute it properly. Elizabeth seems like she's gone about life/work this way her entire life...she tries to find the magic balance where she doesn't have to work hard but isn't poor enough to get fired. That strategy doesn't work forever.
Izzy puzzles me. Izzy is a hard worker and seems to be self motivated. Izzy also has a big mouth and seems to not like Francesca. Izzy had no problem ragging on Chess and going on camera to rag on Chess. At the same time she's frustrated that "the boys" don't respect her and went to Eddie to sort it out. Izzy doesn't seem to get she has the same disrespectful attitude towards Chess and "the boys" towards her. I'm on Izzy side regarding the boys (come on Rob...you look like a donkey) and feel the same about Chess.
Rachel is another puzzle. Great chef. Bizarre human. I don't know if it's a culture thing between the different Nationalities but Rachel and Elizabeth seem rather out there.

You make a fantastic point about Izzy wanting respect, but not giving it to Francesca! I had not thought about it, but you are absolutely right! It seems like a lot of Izzy's chatter about Chess is just basic crew member gossip / chatter. But that's a lot of what she's getting from Rob and James too. I think in time she'll gain the self awareness to see that. But based on the interviews I've seen with her since the show wrapped, she has not figured it out yet! I know it's not his place, which is why he didn't touch it, but I'd love to see Eddie be involved in finding peace between Frachesca and Rachel, and also Izzy and Franchesca. I think he's got a talent for helping someone else to understand what the other person is hearing. I think that in about 2 minutes he could very effectively say - Rachel, you see how mahi was written down five times? Chess, you see how you put two people on the same line so it make it confusing when the actual name of the fish is mahi mahi? See how you BOTH had the best of intentions but were misunderstood by the other? Great, move on!

Yup...I can see both Francesca and Rachel's point of views with that whole mahi mahi debacle. At first I saw it the way Rachel did and then at closer look I understood they way it was meant to be read. BUT it is Francesca's job to make it clear for the chef. Obviously if the dish had been steak ...it would have been more clear

Since the next episode is the season finale, is there going to be a reunion?

I think it’s likely but have not seen it promoted yet. Below Deck Sailing Yacht premieres March 1. So if this one finales Monday that leaves one week that would either be a reunion or “never before seen” special. I think reunion makes more sense since there’s drama to cover and most of them have been available for WWHL. They’ll likely do it remotely instead of flying everyone to be together like they’ve been doing again for Housewives reunions.

It’s been fascinating to see the crew processing the shutdown. Leave it to Eddie to mention the toilet paper shortage!
Josiah said on Galley Talk that he was the stew that Lee had called to be the replacement stew. Oh how I would have loved to see him back on the yacht!

Very disappointing to me to see the season end as it did. I thoroughly enjoy the relationship between Eddie and the captain who continues to mourn the loss of his son. Hope we see them together again on a future season. I feel it's only a matter of time before Rachel's drinking catches up to her and her reputation in yachting is harmed to the point she becomes toxic and unemployable.

From what we've seen in past seasons, I'm not sure that excessive alcohol consumption is truly a disqualifying factor in yachting. If a person is not getting hammered on duty, which she never did, it seems to be par for the course.

Eddie and Captain Lee's relationship is the best!! They make me grin the biggest grin and tear up all at the same time I hope we get to see more of them together in the future. Definitely an odd ending. Interesting to see how it all went down for them as the rest of the world was shutting down and how it came slower to them on the islands. I cracked up when Rachel said she was ready to go see what the rest of the world was going through. I bet she regrets that. I would have wanted to stay on that boat bubble island forever I enjoyed watching them letting loose at the end...drinking champagne and having one last "hurrah" before leaving. I definitely would have enjoyed seeing Josiah be part of the crew!!

Just watched Galley Talk and Josiah did confirm he was going to come on for the last 2 charters! He was about to board his plane and Capt Lee called to say the rest of the season was cancelled. I want him as Chief Stew next!!
