I thought Ben said the termite treatment was $1200 or thereabouts, which involved putting the poison all around the foundation. Repairing the structural damage is where it got pricy. 16K. What I don't understand is how the 2 estimates were so far apart. The first estimate came in at 50K. That's a huge difference! I fell asleep again as I don't watch in real time. I liked the house but thought the 1st house was in a better location. Did they sacrifice a bedroom again for the master bath? They combined 2 baths into 1. Was a 2nd bath added? I think a single person can deal with a sole bathroom in a house but NOT when it's in the master bedroom. Your guests will have to traipse through your bedroom. There needs to be at least a powder room. Again, I fell asleep so idk if that was addressed. Since it was a 1700 sq ft 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom home they had plenty of space for 2 bathrooms. They never do say if they redid the second bathroom or made it a powder room. I find that annoying.

^ Yeah that! Glad I'm not the only one who finds that annoying. 1700 sq ft is a nice size for 1 person so most likely they did add at least a half bath. Our first home had a full bath on the second floor. Having had 2 C- sections, I vowed that our next home would have at least a powder room on the first floor. My husband dug up the concrete basement floor to put in a bath with toilet and shower. The plumbing was in the front of the house and the only spot for the basement bathroom was in the back so he needed to chop out the floor to run plumbing. He did a great job and it came in handy after a day at the beach. The kiddos would go from the side door straight down to the basement to shower. Still wasn't that helpful on a daily basis as I had to either go up or down one flight of stairs when nature called but it did add value to the house. Our current home had a full bath on each floor but no en suite. After about 10 years living here, we added square footage and I got my dream en suite bath. Only 1 sink but it suits us just fine.

The difference in the foundation price was the older guy was replacing everything under the house and the other was only replacing some of it. She would have to finish the rest later. I would have chosen the other house on my personal preference. I also would choose to leave those wide hallways in some of the other homes they have redone.

Anyonr else watch "My Lottery Dream House - International?" They helped British winners of the National Lottery pick out a house. The couple was really sweet, and while there is no David Bromstead the guy they have in that role is quite the character with a glorious accent. It was really nice seeing different housing stock than what's in the suburbs in the States; not sure if that's what a lot of people want here but a lot of times it seems like David is showing everyone the same damn house regardless of what part of the country he's in. I hope this show wasn't a one-off because I would really like to see it again.

I have seen him on other shows and he can be very intense and very critical. It was interesting to see what Brits consider open concept and what the American audience considers open concept. I really, really liked the kitchen in the second house and thought it hit all the couples wish list. Would like to see more.

The one thing that was jarring in the later section at the end was that they used 2 plywood sheets to cover the pool table and turn it into a dining table. Other than ugly (to me who has lived with too much plywood in my life)I would worry about spilled liquid finding the crack between the sheets and ruining the felt of the pool table underneath. It was fascinating to see the heating elements - especially that long rail on a staircase. Having a large kitchen with eat in seems about right for open concept.

It was not plywood, if you watch from when they toured the house it was a dining room table that converts to a pool table. It is a fitted top, in two pieces.

Hometown: I was very surprised when the clients opted to sell her mom's house and go for the ginormous house. Usually in situations like that people really get caught up in nostalgia. The house was beautiful when they finished it. That living room and kitchen was a showstopper. I think Erin prefers soft greens for kitchens and I don't mind it. The way Ben raised the height of the hutch he renovated by putting a shelving unit on the bottom of it was ingenious! It is truly a "forever" home with enough room for the kids and any visitors.

To bold and wallpaper becomes outdated fast.

Personally, I am not a fan.

Personally, I am not a fan. I wasn't crazy about the outside end result but like you Colonial's aren't my favorite. It was to much house and the upkeep will be outrageous. Unless these kids are planning a big family then they over bought IMO. Maybe it was the prestige of the area they liked who knows. I personally would have gutted all of the kitchen even the brick parts where the stove was at. I am not big into brick enclosures for stoves. I also thought the dining room wallpaper closed the space in. I am big Erin and Ben fans and their design is great but this one wasn't my favorite.

Home Town: Season 4, Episode 13 - A Southern Dream - April 6, 2020 This was a really HUGE house at 5900 sq ft. I am tempted to ask what do you need all that space for. This house is at the top end for Laurel, if this couple ever wants to move I think they will have a very hard time selling that home as the buyer pool would be very limited. Just saying.
Well, Erin had a chance to use some more William Morris wallpaper. I am amazed at the female homeowner who is around 25 to 27 yrs old has such traditional taste and how the heck do they afford that home? I know what I was doing at that age and it was busy paying off student loans, car loans, and making sure I had enough to pay the rent, and trying to get a job in my career field.
I think both Erin and Ben do the best they can for the client and for the type of home they are dealing with. I like the colored cabinets in the kitchen and living area. I am not a fan of the brick work in the kitchen it makes the kitchen look closed off, cave like, and claustrophobic.
I really did like the chandelier in the dining room.

Home Town - I also wish they had chosen her mom's house to renovate, that massive colonial was sorta boring. The change to the front entrance/balcony helped, but still. It's a huge brick box. Meh. I liked all the soft blues and white inside, and the built in hutch was neat. Hated the wallpaper and really wasn't a fan of the tile used for the kitchen backsplash. I actually liked the weird brick arch over the stove, but I'm not the one who has to clean it.

I think had it not been so bulky it might have been better. With the size of the room they could have gotten by with 2 small light fixtures over the table.

Watching the new Bargain Mansion show and it's wonderful. The host is very engaging and really has a gift for renovating old properties and picking finishes, colors, upgrades, and items that accentuate the age of the property yet make it look fresh and new. She also converted the entire 3rd floor attic space into a huge master suite. Best of all, she does everything with quality, but not a lot of money. I'll definitely watch again!

What I wonder about in her not a lot of money on renovation costs is the labor included or is that just materials. There was a lot of labor time that went in that house and her amount she spent doesn't seem adequate to cover labor and material. You're talking 16 weeks for $70,000.00. I also noticed when they panned to a close up of the cabinets the paint job on them wasn't that great on the bottom. When they were showing it they panned a closer up look at the end of them and it seemed there was streaks that didn't get painted. Could be lighting but didn't seem to me it was. Her overall look was good. The staging was way to much for my taste and the very large pictures were overpowering. I liked when her daughter mentioned the master bathroom not having a door. I wasn't crazy about that redesign. I for the most part like what she does.

There was a door leading up to the master suite. The other 4 bedrooms were on the second floor, so I think the master suite is more of an oasis to sleep, relax, and get away from the rest of the family.

Bargain Mansions if I recall would do an episode per floor and most times the host would spend $100,000 per floor.

Home Town: Season 4, Episode 14 - Fire and Water - April 13, 2020
While I detest green shingle roofs, Erin managed to make this one look good. I liked the staging with the rattan chairs giving the home an island feel. That was well done. I luv'ed what Erin did with the kitchens, creating that banquette seating was brilliant. Looks as if the seats had hinges and had storage underneath. I would have all my meals there. I do enjoy how this couple recycles materials into useful pieces and does not make it look hokey, they make it look as if that piece fits and is usable.

Home Town - I usually hate green shingles too (and painted brick), but this house really looked nice with both. Lots of nice upgrades without spending a ton of money. I liked the little outdoor area a lot, there was plenty of privacy for cooking out in the summer. Did they ever show a bathroom? I don't remember seeing one...
I want to know why they left the Cayman Islands! So pretty there.

I can't stand BP but I must admit it was a very nice thing to do for his makeup artist.
The Property Brothers really shine when they are doing their standalone shows (Brother vs Brother, Brothers take on NOLA, Drew and Linda's Honeymoon House, etc) and they did a lovely job on this rather small space. I loved how they took her personality and job in consideration and outfitted the space to work with that, including the giant retractable makeup mirror, the hidden storage for the things for her trade behind the bookshelf, the Murphy bed that changed into a sofa for guests, etc. Everything was so light and airy and pretty, and she was so thrilled with it!
Definitely watching the rest of this series.

I liked most of her designs in this episode but I just dislike painted brick exteriors. I know many folks aren't fans of original 'reddish' brick but it's so low maintenance and once painted it needs to be re-painted a lot. I feel this way about painted vs stained woodwork as well but realize I am probably in the minority. I loved the tile work above the outside water feature and the idea of using the recycled materials for the fountain and spigots but I guess I am not like Ben who always says in the opening credits that he likes a 'little dinge." I'd have shined those pieces up; I never cared for distressed painted furniture either. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Last night we watched the CELEBRITY IOU with Melissa McCarthy. It was so heartwarming as she has an aunt and uncle who were both Chicago Police Officers. They are retired now and their house, while they kept their home meticulous, it was overly outdated and really tired looking inside. The PB's and Melissa had it all done over. BEAUTIFUL.
