Bargain Block - loved both of the renos this week. Somehow they ended up getting two more houses side by side - the neighbors were so happy to see them renovated. And I'm so glad No Demo Reno is back, I love how she changes the rooms without tearing everything up. Plus she gives actual design tips. Glad to see Jen back on No Demo Reno. Totally luv'ed the one master bedroom renovation with the blue wall with the integrated TV and work spaces. The one master bedroom shower tile install ticked me off. While I really liked the marble looking diamond shaped tile, each tile was made up of four pieces with one row angled from bottom left to top right, with alternate rows the four pieces were angled from top left to bottom right, the installer made mistakes and did not install all the tile pieces the correct way. If I was the homeowner I would have them redo all that tile work for free because they installed it incorrectly. Even though the theme of the show is No Demo Reno, isn't removing a pony wall/peninsula considered demo? However removing the peninsula and the old island and replacing it with a huge island transformed that kitchen and space. I do like you can see the foyer and other rooms in the house and they have not been touched. Bargain Block - nice to hear that Shea, the realtor is pregnant. I did notice that some of the tile work was not done as well as it is normally and that some of the paint work was sloppy. I wonder if it the time the house was filmed or that now the boys are using other contractors they quality of the work has slipped a bit.

Battle on the Beach Season 2 Episode 4 - Kids Play Rivalry - June 26, 2022
Did production give these teams only 3 or 3 days to complete this project. Not impressed.
When I watch Vacation Home Rules the entire premise is to put as many bodies in a room as possible. I have even vacationed on Oak Island, in North Carolina and the one room had two sets of bunkbeds no room to play in. The HGTV producers are telling us kids are supposed to act a certain way and to have so much space and I think if you are on vacation and can't use the beach you are either playing board games or going on excursions inland or on the water.
I personally felt all teams wasted space by not putting in as many beds as possible.
Team Ty - absolutely deserved last place. They painted the room, put in a new floor, bought an prefab bunk bed, and installed a indoor climbing bars next to the bunk beds in a tiny corner so you couldn't extend your legs or arms or anything. Just dumb, stupid, useless.
Lets not forget the canvas curtains ... huh?
Team Alison - I really thought this room won. Shiplap ceiling. Why is Corey still nailing the shiplap boards instead of the lip and leaving nail holes over all the boards?
There is such a thing as peel and stick wallpaper instead of paste. They couldn't take 5 minutes and ask Alison how to hand wallpaper, look it up on YouTube, ask one of the crew?
Can't believe the woodwork was so shoddy. Will they have time to fix it? Shoddy built in furniture does not add to the value of the house.
Overall it looked great. I am surprised they did not add a board game station, or crafts station.
Team Taniya - I was pleasantly surprised how good the pirate ship looked until Bryan started pointing out all the problems to the point I was surprised that this team won.
I hope all the mistakes and shoddy workmanship are fixed before these homes are appraised and sold.

Battle on the Beach - I agree, I thought Alison's team should have won. I guess they had to throw one to Taniya's team, the dad seems so checked out of the whole competition. Ty's team is still annoying - heavy canvas curtains, seriously? Use something gauzy that they can see through, mosquito netting or some such. Lots of really sloppy work this week.

With all the timber they get no one is checking the pieces? Finish wood is more expensive but who would use crap wood for a ladder that everyone sees and then not sand down. Is this because the teams are really that pressed for time, is it laziness, or is it on purpose by production?

Bargain Block - wow, that little house was a huge mess. Nice colors and staging, I hope they made a decent profit. I guess we'll see what they do with the pink duplex next week, since they couldn't afford to split the electric and HVAC...

I guess we'll see what they do with the pink duplex next week, since they couldn't afford to split the electric and HVAC... OK, what about the money the boys are receiving from HGTV. Tarek and Christina got rich partly from getting $40,000 each from each episode over 10 years and spin offs, and appearances at home shows and endorsing stuff. That all adds up. So why are the boys so cash poor. The idea of renovating the duplex is a good one, they can't be that stupid and not checkout the electrical, plumbing, and heating. They are dealing with older homes in Detroit so I can see there not being any AC. They did just buy that warehouse and transformed it. The financial part of this seems very messy.

Bearcata - good point. Just the other episode, the guys said they could finally afford to pay for some help redoing their homes, so they must be doing well. Plus the money from HGTV. Maybe it was just dramatic editing and it'll all be fine for the duplex next week...

Come on .... a child could get decapitated climbing into bed. I have seen these on Vacation Home Rules and on several lighting websites where you have these light fixtures with a very small fan incorporated inside it and a mesh surround. They use them a lot on VHR and in their kids and adult bedrooms which are lot smaller then the ones they have in these beach homes. They are perfect for those near decapitation situations. Taniya should have caught that "fan" disaster in the making. Funny how Bryan instantly saw it. The all male father and son team do not always come off as too bright.

No Demo Reno - I normally don't like zellige Moroccan handmade tile while the color variation can look good, I guess crooked grout lines are a big NO for me. What I really detest is 4X4 tile stacked. I have that right now and I have seen it in so many kitchens that to me it is ugly. Next to the stone beige square tiles you see a lot of it in the late 80's and 90's and you still see a lot in Texas homes now. Then they do a larger square beige tile on the floor and shower or bathroom wall. Just NO.
That all being said I did like the green colored zellige in the master bathroom on the vanity wall. I did like the subway style zellige as the kitchen backsplash, and Yes, in the master bathroom shower the 4x4 white zellige in a stacked pattern looks great. Yes, it is a trend that I see a lot in bathrooms. It does look beautiful, I don't want it in my bathrooms.
HGTV is airing a lot of the Fixer to Fabulous this weekend and there was a bathroom that they put pink zellige like tile in there that looked great, partly because of the straight uniform size of the tile and grout lines.
Bargain Block - Zen and Dollhouse - June 29, 2022
Seriously, I don't know how these guys make any money on these really low profit margins. It's the same with Good Bones. Flip or Flop had a better format as Tarek would always include the carrying costs and the closing costs and then you could really see the actual profit.
Well if on Bargain Block you get a $20,000 profit and half of that goes to the realtor and to closing costs you are making $10,000 per house. If you are flipping and selling 10 to 20 houses a year that is anywhere from $100,000 to $200,000 but it is split between Evan and Keith so that is $50,000 to $100,000. Plus they have their design store. I do think they must work a lot of hours, much more than 40 hours a week.
I do like that they were thinking of investing in another aspect of real estate and that would be the rental market. Too bad they are having problems with the pink house regarding the furnace, plumbing and electrical.

Battle on the Beach Season 2 Episode 5 - Guest Room - July 3, 2022
Team Taniya - Guest Room was nice, Bathroom was nice, added powder room, it was nice. Except for the cheap PVC piping trying to be disguised as black metal under the sink and the hole in drywall was not covered up.
Team Ty - The bedroom wall made up of kitchen cabinet doors could have been done much better, why did they bother. Best bathroom luv the tile color.
Team Alison - They bitch about adding value, it is a vacation home which means add beds, they add a bed, the judges bitch. There was a lot of sloppy work in the adult bunkbed. Nice bathroom.
Why don't these bathrooms have handheld wands they are so helpful?
I feel like this was a wasted episode, I am feeling that about the entire season.
WTF are the judges going on and on about window treatments. Give the teams time to properly finish a room. Roller shades are not that expensive or difficult to install.
Does HGTV instruct the judges to be difficult? Insane? Inconsistent? Sidebar back to Alison complaining about the rain shower in the bathroom saying she does not wash her hair every day and many women don't. OK but if you are on the beach every day with sand, suntan lotion, and ocean water in your hair, I bet you would wash your hair everyday while on vacation. That was just dumb.
Next week is the last episode, which means the outside and the party area under the deck. Will they have time to finish the sloppy workmanship? Will some viewer just save us from watching and burn the 3 houses down? Please.

Battle On the Beach - this season is just...meh. Didn't like the cabinet doors stuck all over the wall and didn't like the open vanity with the ugly PVC plumbing sticking out. You can do open vanities with shelves and baskets, something cute. This wasn't it.
Bathrooms were nice, but I agree about the handheld shower sprayers, especially if there's not a tub and little kids are staying there.
I generally don't like stacked 4 x 4 tiles either, but those ombre tiles were pretty!

There are simply way better ways do to a feature wall with strips of wood and they do a good job of it on Unsellable Houses and Bargain Block. I almost think that Ty is trying to sabotage his team. I could see a row of the rectangle doors abutted next to each other, meaning no plywood showing in a row soldier style would have been OK. Using battens (wood strips) to create a geometric pattern would have been good. Painting the wall with an ombre effect would have been nice. Just a big NO to what they did.

Unsellable Houses - Season 3 episode 12 aired June 29, 2022 and Episode 13 aired July 5, 2022
Both homes featured the twins Pacific Coast style with lots of natural wood tones, lots of natural materials, lots of patterns, lots of textures, and unusual tile choices, and leather chairs and sofas. The ladies tend to pick a lot of dark, woodsy tones, greens, yellows, browns.
Lately they have been adventurous with the showers, again using darker colors tiles in greys, greens, and blue tones, much in an ombre, or varied colored tile. I do like their kitchens, and most of their bathrooms. The ladies are not afraid of doing dark on dark tones and that can work out very well. What I do like is that they usually do a custom closet system in the master bedroom. I like that it is a great selling feature especially in the higher end market.
At times I do think they could pare down the number of items they use to stage a home.
I did have one pet peeve in episode 13. The laundry room was redo so their was extra room for the kitchen. However in the space left over the twins put in a stackable washer and dryer but surrounded it with cabinets to the point I don't think you could stand in front of the washer or dryer and open the door with out mashing yourself into the cabinets. Like I mentioned before the ladies do like to pack in a lot in spaces at times too much.
Next week starts season 7 of Good Bones.

Unsellable Houses - I just discovered Unsellable Houses, and what a delightful show! Twins, Lyndsay and Leslie are really talented, and when they're done, their houses are really charming! And I love the concept of Lyndsay and Leslie putting up their OWN money for the entire renovation, and then splitting the house's sale profit with the seller. Very gutsy move, but they seem to know just what to do to get a house to sell at a much higher price, so you go girls!!!

Steal this House premiered on July 9, 2022.
Female host who has construction skills. Finds fixers for her clients to renovate. Liked the first episode. I like the transformation of the 1970's home to a modern mountain style. However I personally do not like all the levels with the extra stairs all over the place.

Bargain Block Season 2 Episode 4 - Minimalist and Dollhouse Completed - July 6, 2022
What I don't understand is that on the pink dollhouse they bought at $25,000 and had a renovation budget of $90,000 they couldn't do an additional $15,000 for the new duplicate electrical panel, HVAC, and plumbing needed for a true duplex yet the boys could go out and buy a new house and put $50,000 down as a reno budget?

Battle on the Beach Season 2 Episode 6 - Battling the Exteriors - July 10, 2022
This was painful and the teams did more than was shown as you could see there were dining tables and seating areas installed under the houses, with at least two teams adding outdoor showers, and one hanging hammocks off the posts.
Team Taniya - did a board and batten exterior, painted the siding a nice solid blue, adding outside sconces, an eating area, a seating area with firepit, and a grill. Let's face it, it was paint and staging. The teams were also given an additional $2000 to finish of missed items inside the home. The hung some curtains, Dad was yelling at the crew. I don't think he gives clear instructions and gets frustrated with what is being done. They put in a new smaller table in their banquet area, they sanded down the raw wood table and added a wine rack, they got their shower door for the big bathroom installed, did they add a glass shower door in the hall bathroom or did another team do it?
Team Alison - did board and batten siding, painted it green (no one liked the green), sconces, dining table and outdoor seating area with a firepit. The big highlight was that they had a grill and mini frig but they made it a build int providing prep space on both sides of the grill, with a seating area, and a small prep sink. Inside they added wall art to the one bare wall, did some finish caulking, and in the powder room they covered the back painted green wall with patterned tile and installed two beefy shelves. Really finished that powder room.
Team Ty - did a board and batten siding, but painted a soft griege and painted the front door a bright coral. Added three seating areas, no dining to speak of and no grill. Inside they hung black rods and beige curtains in the living area. They had the curtains from the second challenge but did not have time to hang them. Added accessories to their build ins. Changed out the curtains in the kids room. Added a shower door to the second bathroom.
The original homes were valued at $500,000 with a renovation budget of $80,000.
The appraiser valued the homes from $720,800 to 769,200 to $789,800.
Team Alison - Paige and Corey - the Canadians won the $50,000 because they are Canadians they don't have to pay a gift tax and can keep all the money.
I really don't like that they don't say who was second and who was third.
Also what about the quality of some of the work is any of it fixed?
There will be a behind the scenes episode next week and then the next season of Renovation Island starts on July 24th.

Bargain Block - yeah, I don't understand why they couldn't afford to make that house a true duplex, yet went out and bought a whole new house to work on. I didn't love the exteriors on either one this week, but the interiors were nice. Except that pink paint above the one doorway, ugh. Battle on the Beach - I'm glad this is over. I didn't like that awful green on Team Alison's house, but overall it was the best. Ty's team changed out those silly, heavy curtains for chocolate brown curtains in a lighter fabric. Still looked goofy. And grumpy dad can go back to wherever he came from, yelling at the construction folks like that. What a pouty baby.

I don't know for sure but I think Dad's problem is he is so used to doing everything himself that he does not know how to project manage anyone, translate that to figure out what to do and give people tasks to do and let them do it. Because really what had to happen? They had a crew do the siding and paint. He had to place the furniture (did he really?), he had installers do the glass panel in the master shower. So what else did they do? Oh, sand the console table and insert an already made wine rack inside. How much time were they given to correct their mistakes?

Bargain Block - Keith sure does love to lean into a theme. The "Wild West" house turned out better than I thought it would, but I don't know why they tore out granite to put in...butcher block. The granite was tan/brown and would have went with their colors. They didn't finish the circus themed house, that was a to-be-continued. I've noticed a lot of sloppy work in the last two shows, I don't know if they're being rushed for filming or what.

Thank you for noticing the sloppy workmanship. I saw white paint on the side of the tan and brown kitchen tile. The long shot of the bathroom floor you saw a spot of something on the floor by the door, there were marks on the bottom of the door, on the right it looked as if no one cleaned that old white tile, the grout lines looked disgusting, the paint on the white metal cover in the bathroom wall looked more like primer and barely painted at that. I have noticed sloppy workmanship in each episode this season. I don't know if they are rushing filming and the boys have not truly complete the house yet. I also noticed some of the staging, especially the beds was incredibly sloppy. It is not a good look for their brand. Also what is the To Be Continued on the last two episodes, I don't need a cliffhanger to continue to watch.

Good Bones Season 7 Episode 1 - "A Quaint Cottage With Vintage Vibes" - July 12, 2022 www.indianapolismonthly.com/lifestyle/home/good-bones-recap-season-7-premiereDuring the walk through I noticed in the backyard that there were gaps between the new fence and the garage on both sides so if the couple do get a dog it will be able to just walk through. I liked the final staging. It was less cluttered, clean and sleek, with more of a mid century modern touch with the light wood tones and black metal touches. I did notice that Mina looked great. No body shaming intended but Mina got a little round during her pregnancy and with all the IVF treatments. I give her a lot of credit for loosing any pregnancy weight but she looks amazingly trim and fit this episode. Check out the photos of the home in the above link of the Indianapolis Monthly. The Two Chicks got a $95,000 profit from the sale of this home which was very well earned as they normally make so little money from the sale of their homes.

Battle on the Beach - Behind the Scenes - July 17, 2022
One or two additional scenes which were cut.
Ty wanted all the kitchen cabinets. Taniya did it for an original piece of art from Ty. Alison gave them the cabinets but later told them to come on over and demo it themselves.
The teams had to go pick tile but the non-designer had to pick it and use in the bathroom, the guest bathroom I think. Team Ty picked one of those modern wavy subway tiles but in really strong blue not in their color palette. They put in one of the bathroom niches, a very thin row at the bottom of the niche you could barely see.
They each walked through each others houses. All the teams seem to get along.
Was it really necessary to have this episode? No, it was not.
Overall, I was disappointed in the season.
Please tell us whose house was the highest price, and the lowest.
Paige and Corey I think won it partly because of the built-in food prep space on the deck.
The teams also renovated under the houses but that was never shown.
HGTV DO BETTER.

Good Bones Season 7 Episode 2 - "Near Eastside Americana Cottage" - July 19, 2022
I watch this show because I enjoy Karen and Mina, I don't watch it to see a toilet full of poop dominate the entire demo portion to the point it seems to dominate the episode. I watch these shows to see the reveal of the entire home not just some rooms. I hope the rest of the season does not go this way.
