Rock the Block:
I couldn’t pick one last night. Thought the same couple who won last time would have won since from the door it went with the beams in the kitchen.
Didn’t like any of the black bathrooms. Why would the boys make a powder room bigger? Wasted space. Don’t take any away from my garage.
I thought the winning team with the library was ok but the fireplace was not centred and to plain for me. Did noticed they did put the plugs up top for a tv behind the picture but your couch would be of centre in the room . Why were the books backwards?
Like the idea of the bi fold doors but do people really use them? All I could think of was bugs off that pond. I never leave doors open there goes the ac too.
Have no idea why Bryan and Sarah blocked their view or build their wall out so there is a hall way where the bathroom was. Also closed in the stair wall because of the stone wall. Made the room smaller feeling.
I missed the beginning….isn’t there a bathroom for the other bedrooms down that hall? Because they were going to put a shower in their extra bathroom but ran out of time.
I wish they would slow down at the end and show the rooms slower. I didn’t even notice that the guys did tile at the front door . I did notice most have double doors but Bryan and Sarah. They used to show us the floor etc but now the judging is too fast.

Rock the Block:I honestly liked only two of the living rooms this week, with Paige and Mitch taking the high honors and Michele and Antony a close second. I love a good library section in a home and the ceiling height in that room was 16 feet so why not? I also loved the fireplace between the shelves, such a lovely, cozy space that complemented their kitchen. Michel and Antony had the long horizontal fireplace which was unusual but nice. When they first mentioned the seating nook to the side of the fireplace I was initially skeptical but loved the finished project; it's a great area to sit, plus dogs would love it. It was light, bright, and inviting. I really liked Anthony for saying that even though you have a top dollar property there are options that you can use within that are a lot cheaper, but just as nice. Both of these teams opted to save money by using porcelain for their fireplaces instead of marble, and open accordion doors or large windows to take advantage of the beautiful view. They were also the only two teams who took advantage of the ceiling height to install wooden ceiling treatments which looked wonderful; if you have the space why not? Made the living rooms look more warm and inviting. I was disappointed in the other two looks. While I understand why they had to do it, that painted brick was NOT the business in Jonathan's house, and I wasn't fond of the stone wall in Bryan and Sarah's home either. In addition to that, one of the teams design completely blocked the beautiful view and I can't understand why you would do such a thing? The shells are 1.5 mil, these houses are going to be worth at least 2.5 when finished, and anyone moving to that part of CO in that price bracket is going to want the view. I am not a fan of the stone wall either. Maybe if it was a different kind of stone? Bryan and Sarah took done walls in last weeks kitchen episode. Everywhere you look there is a window and a view. Maybe they figured with multiple views already they didn't need another one.

Rock the Block - I guess I agree with Page and Mitch winning this one, I did like the library addition. Hated the blocky fireplace and stone wall (just too much of it) that Bryan and Sarah did. Cedar ceiling was pretty, though. Michel and Anthony's fireplace was nice and had a mantel/shelf for putting stuff, which I prefer over the flat front fireplaces everyone else did. The daybed was neat. Powder room was wayyy too dark and cave-like for me. Jonathan and Christina's fireplace was meh, it needed a mantel also. That black and white wallpaper in the powder room was hideous. I forgot to gripe about Page's wall o' wine bottles last week. You don't store wine in the sun! Not even 2 Buck Chuck.

It's a staging thing. Actual books make potential buyers focus on the books instead of the design. It's also an advertising/copyright issue since the authors didn't consent/get paid for their books being on TV. It's the same reasons why they also use those mock colored "books" without titles for staging as well.

I'm really enjoying how Nate and Jeremiah interact with their clients, they're so warm and welcoming. BUT is it just my imagination that Nate is so often surly with Jeremiah, and standoffish and condescending? Jeremiah makes so many (on the air) comments about how he wishes Nate would be more affectionate with him, and Nate just doesn't seem to want to hear that! It's really kind of upsetting to watch, cause Jeremiah looks really hurt when he does that. I don't think it's so much surly, his nature is just more reserved on camera. Jeremiah's nature is just more open, and there's nothing wrong with that. You can see Nate open up and is more warm when they're with the children. Their personality types mesh and they work well together. Can we talk about the real issue this season? Jeremiah's hair! It's wild and unkempt! And he stopped lightening it. I'm ready to call Sarah McLachlan to film a PSA about saving Jeremiah's hair...

Nate and Jeremiah Home Project: It's interesting how this show and "Outgrown" have similar premises but this show is successful while Outgrown...wasn't. I love how they work with different people/families to determine where they are at in life, and what belongings should continue the journey with them or go to another home. I'm really enjoying how Nate and Jeremiah interact with their clients, they're so warm and welcoming. Funny how we all see things.

The Flipping El Moussas - they're off to ruin a mountain cabin in the episode. Heather squeals about keeping a vintage look and hires yet another designer who talks about staining the woodwork chestnut and keeping the 50's vibe. Instead we got a totally black exterior, dark paint all over the woodwork inside, weird wallpaper, and very modern looking stacked subway tile. SO vintage. They did have "vintage" style appliances, so there's that. Tarek chiding Heather in front of her parents about spending so much on wooden bears was gross. Is Heather just on this show to flash her huge diamonds as a FU to Christina?

LOL, yes!
Everything she does is in response to Christina and it's sad. The splash page for this show on Discover + has her arms wrapped around Tarek in such a way that her big honking diamond ring is front and center.
Also, why all the hiring of designers? Isn't that supposed to be Heather's purpose on the show? Mess.

Nate and Jeremiah:
Oh my goodness,so sad. This family had a daughter who had cancer. Just when she went into remission, a fire broke out in her brother's room that literally gutted a good portion of the house, so they were living elsewhere. N and J sorted them out, complete with beautifully designed bedrooms for the oldest boy as well as the girls. I wouldn't use pink for a girl's room but they loved it (plus the wallpaper pattern they chose for the focus wall was very nice) so I'm going to say maybe they requested it? They also went out of their way to find a few collectables for the eldest boy since all of his was destroyed in the fire. Overall, the family loved their renovated house and you really felt happy for them.

Bearcata I think you would really enjoy last week's episode of Home Town as it dealt with two renovations with the first being a little guesthouse in the rear of a couple's property. The couple wanted to use the space as a refuge where anyone down on their luck could stay for a few days. It was small (around 250 sq feet) and they wanted to put a full bathroom and a mini-kitchen inside. It was the first time they've tackled a space that tiny and unfortunately there was a significant amount of termite damage within. They fixed that, vaulted and stained the ceiling for height, added a shower and sink to the bathroom, and a lovely mini-kitchen. I would say the end result was like a lovely studio apartment in most cities with a cottage feel and just enough room for one person to relax and reflect. Overall, it was a very cute reno outside of what they normally do. The second was an old abandoned 2 story former store that still had charm (the winding wooden staircase and the art deco trim) despite it being a wreck, and one of Erin's friends had the idea of renovating it for her candle/scent business. Erin and Co got the idea of marketing the store as a "scent library" with actual library items (a circulation desk as a checkout counter, green reading lamps on tables, library "cards" that you could spray scent on to sample, and wooden bookshelves to house the product). The building facade was made out of a type of glass called Vitrolite (a type of pigmented structural glass) that was common in the 20s and 30s but stopped being produced in the 50s. They were able to track down a supplier that still had a surplus of glass to replace it, and they put in a cork floor which was common in libraries from that time period. Ben created the "circulation desk" and it was absolutely gorgeous. The end result was so beautiful and charming and attracted a huge crowd. It's now a top tourist attraction in Laurel now and their website had a lovely selection of candles and other smellgoods. www.laurelmercantile.com/pages/scent-library

Rock the Block:
So happy for the guys . I loved their bathroom. The floor was so nice , closet had lots of storage and the deck of the bedroom. I would probably not use it but made it look nice from the back of the house. Even had an awning over it . Have to see the ombré paint in person. Looked like they painted the light switch.
Bryan and Sarah: just no . I don’t want a bedroom look like a hotel room with the coffee bar. It didn’t look cozy at all. Agree that the bathroom seemed disjointed. It was a L shape. They did put the bench in the shower and other shower heads. Their closet seemed close for a walk in. I was wonder how much room you had to open the washer door plus the door out is right there.
Paige and Mitch :Didn’t like the slats in the bedroom. We’re they the ones with the fireplace in the bathroom. Nice touch but the tap was right in the middle of it. Wouldn’t that get really hot to touch plus doesn’t look good. She was so happy about the secret door to the laundry. I probably knock the shoes off going in their place it was so plain in there.
Jonathan and Christina: that was a lot of green ! I liked there the waterfall on the cabinets in the bathroom. Thought I would hate the green in the shower when I saw it at first but wasn’t that bad. Not sure about the bath tub put between the sinks. Liked the fire place but not sure I liked the stone with the green. Their closet looked big and roomy but didn’t like the blue , not enough hanging rods either. Did like that their laundry also opened up to the rest of the house . I’m guessing the rest of the bedrooms are downstairs I know they have the other laundry but it seemed further away…lol
Some houses now have a second laundry, 2 islands , 2 kitchens…lol

I know to some folks it seems like overnight success but Erin and Ben were doing Laurel and their careers for about 10 years before they were discovered. They are persistent and I do like the vibe of Home Town. Glad to see they were able to create a new business. To be honest I would go and vacation there just to see the area and try out the restaurants.

I’m guessing the rest of the bedrooms are downstairs I know they have the other laundry but it seemed further away…lol Some houses now have a second laundry, 2 islands , 2 kitchens…lol Andre and Michelle: Nice extension of the deck. Sometimes you do just want to wake up and walk out and lean over the railing and just look. Liked the ombre effect on the bedroom walls but maybe it looked better in real life. Liked the bathroom, liked that they use porcelain instead of marble and achieve the same effect. Great closet. Saddle blanket equal pillowcases but the blanket was nice. They did not over do on the surprise material. Bryan and Sarah: Is it the altitude? Sarah is always this reserved and restrained personality rolling her eyes at her husband's lame jokes. However, Sarah is throwing out innuendos and coming across as frisky to the point Bryan is staring at her with the "what has happened to my wife" question in his eyes. I don't mind their master suite renovation. Their style leans toward contemporary with a hint of modern but always with high end materials, a neutral palette with lots of textures. Bedroom was OK. I really do not see what was wrong with the bathroom. Luv a bench in the shower and all those extra shower heads. The twins complaint about the vanities was so dumb. No one bends that far over to brush their teeth. Just stupid IMO. Luv'ed their closet it looked the largest and had lots and lots of hanging space. Do they really need a laundry in the master suite when it is on the ground floor and maybe 15 to 20 feet away from the main laundry? Liked the access to the deck. Best use of the surprise material making that bench. Paige and Mitch: Their bedroom suite very much in keeping with an updated mid century modern with those wooden slates over the bed. They went the fire in the bathroom route. Why? Will you really use it? How much heat will it throw? I would rather have heated floors and a steam function in the shower and air bubble bathtub. What was with the mini closet with minimal hanging space that is a deal breaker for many women. That door with the shoes, really that door can't hold any shoes too narrow. I think the entire closet and laundry room was a miss on their part. If you need a secret door do it on the entry from the main hallway into the laundry. Surprise material into a mid century mod element ... it was ok. Jonathan and Christina: The green wainscotting is impressive and a take on the mountain cabin. Do I really want to see that much green wainscotting in my face on a daily basis? NO. Bathroom was good. I do not mind the blue millwork for the closet or laundry room. I very much mind a poorly designed closet, that is a deal breaker. The laundry was good, the appliances may have been raised a bit too high off the floor to reach the buttons. Luv'ed the laundry sink. Laundry seemed a bit narrow. (Surprise material) Hated the lasso on the light but it was OK as a wall decoration and Christina should have left it at that. Trouble with all the teams is that they are all coming up with the same ideas. Overall I thought it was pretty even except for the horrid closet design for P&M and J&C. Glad that Andre and Michelle won. I really hope the teams do something exciting in the basement next week. Probably all will add another kitchen, entertainment area, and a guest bedroom and bath and maybe laundry. How many kitchens & laundries do these houses need?

Rock the Block - oh yay. Not only is Ty yelling at me, it's my least favorite twins, too.
I did like Paige and Mitch's bathroom, I'd enjoy a fireplace next to the tub. Closet was a miss, though. And I'm kind of over wooden slats on walls, to be honest.
Michel and Anthony - loved the deck extension and closet. Nice bedroom. I liked the materials and colors in the bath, but I don't love a tub plopped in a massive shower. And I only saw one handheld sprayer with a regular shower head? All that room, they could have added some body sprayers.
Bryan and Sarah - Really nice shower with lots of body sprays (yay!). Excellent closet. I didn't mind the opposing vanities, nobody would be bumping butts even with a Kardashian-sized behind.
Jonathan and Kristina - wayyy too much of that green on the wainscoting. Beautiful green tile in the shower, though. That rope light fixture was a big nope.

Those big wet rooms with a shower and tub have to be done right and there seemed to be enough space you can shower and not wet the tub. My BIG pet peeve in bathrooms especially these so called lux bathrooms is the shower heads. There need to be multiple shower heads body sprays and hand held sprayers. In a shower that big I want a bench, a curved full body bench with a steam feature especially in a house that is going to cost close 2 million or more better have that. And a heated floor. B&S and A&M had the best closets.

Rock The Block:
There was a lot of good and a lot of "why did you do that, lol?" this week. Main bedrooms/baths are a moment to shine and I think each team did that in their own way.
Antony and Michel: Loved the fact that they recycled the porcelain in different areas (the bathroom tile with smaller pieces on the shower floor, in the closet, etc) as well as the original French doors in their living room. The ombre effect on the bedroom wall was neat, and I loved the fact that they extended the outside deck to have access from the bedroom to take advantage of the lovely view. Closet was A+ and what you would expect in a house like this. This was easily my favorite. Byran and Sarah: loved the bench in the shower, that needs to happen more often. Unlike the twins I didn’t mind the sink placements. The closet was goals and once again the type of thing you should see in an upscale house. Unfortunately, I did not like the bedroom area. If I’m at home I want to feel like I’m at home, not at a hotel and this very much had a hotel aesthetic. Johnathan and Kristina: I like wainscoting. I like the color green. However, there was way too much of both. This would look good in a kitchen, not a bedroom. Shower also had a bench and the waterfall marble on the sinks was luxe. However, they totally skimped out on the closet; it was nice, but not as lux as you would expect in a house like this. Paige and Mitch: I actually liked the wooden elements on the accent wall. I agree with the twins that there was a little bit too much white on the walls and in the room; some color somewhere would have been nice. A fireplace next to the tub is ridiculous. They also seemed like they skimped on the closet, but yay for including a clothes steamer.

Nate and Jeremiah Home Project: The White and Bright House
It must be white, white, white, white and bright, bright, bright and it will be flat and boring. Was there even a backsplash in the kitchen?
Who puts a painting on the wall behind the cooktop? Not anyone who cooks. That is a grease fire in the making.
Overall the renovated home looked good. Amazing what you can do by moving a wall or two and increasing the width of an opening.
The bare bones of the home looked great. At one point in my life I wanted an all white kitchen as I hated the wood ones made of honey oak and the crap melanite from the 70's, 80's and 90's. However my tastes have changed since then and while a neutral palette can be an good idea for stretching the renovation for decades, you need texture, visual stimulation, not white, on white, on white, on white. This kitchen just screams to be called a fail.

That's the same issue I have with these beautiful stand-alone soaking tubs that are all the rage, these days. So many are installed with nothing around them to hold all the goodies we need for a bath: towels, soaps, hair products, etc. etc. etc.

I agree. I was bored this week, and it wasn't because of N and J either. I despise all white kitchens and interiors and we got that this week in spades.

Nate and Jeremiah Home Project: The White and Bright House It must be white, white, white, white and bright, bright, bright and it will be flat and boring. Was there even a backsplash in the kitchen?

But it wasn't Nate or Jeremiah's design to have the all white kitchen. They were respecting the owner's STRONG DESIRE to have that. In fact, she even wanted an all white living room area as well! She really, really wanted that, so to me, it would've been sad if they didn't do it for her.

I hate when they spend frivolous money on decor. $600 for antique barware for this job, $700 for a foot square mirror on another job. Stop buying for your taste and save the clients some money by shopping at Target for the same items. Same effect in the long run.

This has been a huge pet peeve of mine and I'm so glad you've brought it up!

It's good that the owner got what she wanted, but it makes for boring watching.

It's good that the owner got what she wanted, but it makes for boring watching. I remember an episode of a show that aired long ago on HGTV and it had a Brit designer and he was redoing a flat (apartment/condo) for a female client in London I believe. The client wanted her flat to be peaceful and serene and it was very neutral and lots and lots of white. It was not boring. Lots and lots of texture, different materials, different tones of color. I wanted that flat it looked like this cozy little nest that you wanted to snuggle into. I was not a fan of white until I saw this episode and it showed what a white palette can be if done correctly. The Nate and Jeremiah episode was NOT a good example of an all white palette.
