FYI: www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-moms/news/home-towns-erin-napier-slams-cruel-comments-about-daughter/One of the things I always appreciated about FORT is that the moderators held all members to the standard to be respectful to each other and I have followed that policy in all my posts here and on other sites. I just do not understand people's need to post nasty comment's. If you don't think a child is good looking you lie about it to the parent. It is a social lie also known as a white lie. It helps everyone get along in society. Going after someone's child or spouse who is not in the business is off limits in my opinion. Unfortunately we have to also deal with all the celebs who tell us everything including their poop schedule. We don't need to know everything about your life it really is not that important.

Unfortunately these aren't even the worst comments said about that child on their blog. People were absolutely awful about her, and I wouldn't be surprised if she either limits or completely turns her comment section off like Alexandra Grant (Keanu Reeve's girlfriend) had to in the future. I'm convinced that there are a lot of people who can't handle SM and the concept of being only a few keystrokes away from their fave (or the person running their faves account). Either people are talking to them in the SM like they know then personally, or they're saying cruel personal things knowing someone is at the other end of the screen who will read it. I can understand maybe talking [censored] on a gossip site; I can't understand going to someone's SM for the sole purpose to be cruel, and I REALLY don't understand going in on people's children. Yes, there's some weird looking kids out here (I particularly think that stage they go through when they're toddlers with giant heads is alienlike and creeps me out) but you keep that to yourself; you don't plop in someone's SM to tell them their child is ugly. What is the profit in that? Pleasure out of being cruel?

I am pretty upfront in my normal regular interactions and I have been told people don't like it and that is why they don't want to be friends or be around me. OTOH I don't feel the need to rip anyone on social media. I think a lot of people seem very quiet and nice on the outside but have internal rage and frustration and they think that social media is an excuse where they can let all their anger and frustration rage. The comments I see on YouTube and NextDoor confirms that there are a lot of angry people who would let the world burn if they could. There is also this thing were a person is successful other people just want to tear that person down. I have seen so many articles stating that Home Town and Fixer Upper and other HGTV shows are fake. I feel as if these people are idiots. There is a building schedule, a filming schedule and what is edited to support a storyline. It is misleading to think you can pick tile in one episode and have it delivered the next. All the decisions for tile and flooring need to be done with a 8 to 12 week lead time. Design and renovation shows on HGTV are more for inspiration that to show realistic timelines. I also know people who luv the Property Brothers and think Jonathan is amazing for being to do all the work on a house. The shows are quite open about having multiple crews working around the clock to be able to complete the homes in a short timeframe. Jonathan cannot complete the 12 to 13 homes the team works on in a season all by himself. PS: Chelsea Clinton. I always felt bad for her as she was an awkward looking kid with two good looking parents and in a major spotlight. Notice that Chelsea had to grow into her face and that took into her 30's.

Extremely true, especially Next Door. I live in a neighborhood that's described as "transitional" and had to change my email notifications on Next Door to "once in a while" because of the borderline stupidity and microaggressions of people posting. Things like "I just moved a block away from the railroad tracks and hate the fact that the trains honk their horn at night. Who do I talk to to have this stopped" and photographs of people literally walking down the street minding their own business being called suspicious. I was literally getting an email every few hours and it was always nonsense, never important, and half the time the news wasn't even from my neighborhood! I think some of those people have that internal rage but I think there's also people whose online behavior rolls over into real life who treat people horribly to their faces now. These are crazy times we are living in!

Same on my HOA Facebook, people complain and interject with community issues and they don't even live in the community any more. People think complaining about whatever subject on their community Facebook or NextDoor platforms that someone will miraculously fix the issue. Dream on. People do not want to contact the HOA or city or police they want someone else to do it but they sure want to complain about it. If someone else asks do you know what is happening over there, I will post do your own research instead of asking a stranger to do it for you. And the bad English and grammar. People so do not know how to write. They assume you can read their mind and fill in the blanks. Read what you write before you post. Then there are the smart guys and sometimes gals who just like to stir up people and are rude and obnoxious.

Our Nextdoor here is mainly people griping about pets running loose and constant questions about helicopters/jets/noise from the bombing range - when we live right next to an Air Force base. Derp. Windy City Rehab - is this the season of sheisty contractors? Geez. What kind of concrete company pours the foundation with NO rebar and disappears? The husband sure did bust his butt doing a lot of work himself, he did quite well. The house looked so much better with the black trim outside, inside was a definite improvement too.

The husband sure did bust his butt doing a lot of work himself, he did quite well. The house looked so much better with the black trim outside, inside was a definite improvement too. 25 miles from a Marine Base and only a couple miles away from two public gun ranges but people still ask what is that noise and why are there helicopters overhead. The Marines do post a schedule of when they do live firing and thankfully they are doing their flying practices in another neighborhood for now. Funny how you can hear the helicopters but not see them. For as many people that want to know about the accidents and stuff around the area I don't see how asking on Nextdoor is that helpful, get a police scanner and go to their website. Oh, and lets not go on about the warnings of strange people in the neighborhood. To be honest some are helpful warnings as when the one lady told everyone that a there was a homeless encampment in the woods behind her development with a lot of loud music and partying. People trashed this lady with the homeless have no where to live. I would be concerned with homeless living near my house with no bathroom facilities, drinking and doing drugs and having access to my electricity and water (outside outlet and hose). Enjoyed the Windy City Rehab this week. Amazing how an architect really does not space plan well and Alison has to walk him through the house. Moving the stairs makes a huge difference in the space. I felt bad for the homeowner having to deal with someone who basically steals $20,000 does crap work and you have to paid $28,000 to clean up the mess. Does Chicago not regulate its contractors?

Watched this week's episode of Windy City Rehab and oh, man. My thoughts:
- Oak Park is not a neighborhood in Chicago. It's the first suburb you get to on the Western side of the city. Like Evanston (by the lakefront at the Northeast border) it borders the city, so it's an easy commute. Lots of beautiful old trees (hence the name), old houses, and a collection of Franklin Lloyd Wright buildings. It's really a lovely, quiet, diverse, artistic town.
- I felt so sad for the homeowner when he called Alison in tears about his basement. I'm embarrassed as a Chicagoan but honest talk here, there are a LOT of slimy, bad faith contractors in this city and you really have to be careful. In IL, each city or county sets their own rules regarding licensing and you can look someone up to see if they are licensed, but it's no guarantee that person is actually going to be good. Another thing to consider is Chicago is a union city, and unionized contractors and workers cost money that people don't want to pay. Some people cut corners by hiring Pookie's cousin who is a contractor who can "do it cheaper" but either isn't that great or will take you for a ride. You have to really do due diligence here when you hire someone, find out if there's any complaints, talk to people who have received their services, etc. Sadly, with the exception of ONE episode of "Love it or List It" this is the ONLY show on HGTV that has had issues with contractors and it doesn't surprise me one bit.
- I'm familiar with Ozinga and glad they were able to help Alison. They work primarily with supplying concrete to jobs but they've been around for a while and work with many different contractors and companies so they were able to point Alison in the direction of someone reputable. They are also a union backed outfit and so are the people they recommend (which explains why the original 20k job ballooned to 28k).
- Moving the stairs was a really good decision. That beautiful door that the owner was refinishing was also a good decision. The house looked gorgeous when it was finished.

What also was funny was the way the homeowner would get so tense when getting mantels, other architectural salvage, and tile. I have seen people remodel their bathrooms and they don't want to get nicer tile and they use that old beige square tile and it looks so dated and it makes you want to say why did you put all that work and effort into it and use crap materials. Also prices even now that the lockdown is over are ridiculous. I had to get a new roof put in and the roofers charged me $100 for a sheet of plywood. It's about $27 for a sheet at Home Depot. Luv the markup.

Another thing is if you're getting work done and the contractor asks for all the money upfront "for materials" it's a definite red flag. A deposit of 20-30 percent is what a reputable contractor will ask for, with the rest being paid either upon completion or in staggered amounts if the job is big. 20k is a big chunk of cash to lose to a shiester but I guess it's a hard lesson learned.

Battle for the Beach for 2023 has started.
I am not too impressed with the three new teams. Normally they aggravate me but not this time. I do wonder at the skill level of some of the teams.
Some of the contractors seem to not be doing a good job ... especially the dry wall guys.
Alison has two guys and both have experience flipping but the stress is really getting to them.
Ty has a black female carpenter and a black male contractor who are flipping partners.
Taniya has the least experienced married couple who have only flipped two houses and the wife is a control freak and I can tell she will be very irritating.
Kitchen episode:
Alison I thought had the nicest kitchen. I don't think it was that big a deal not having an eat in area that was facing the view. The cabinets were a soft green with dark green and blue tile backsplash. One of the judges does not like green.
Ty's team did it in wood and beige stone.
Taniya's team had black counters and black tile backsplash, a black stove hood, some black cabinets, a black island, a black dining table. Black is such a beachy color.

Finally got to watch Battle for the Beach this morning. With the merger of HBO and Discover they have stopped posting new episodes of shows on Discover+ the morning it airs in prime time, and instead the shows are posted after it airs on cable, and in many cases aren't posted until the next day now. It's extremely irritating. I like the fact that these are reasonably sized beach houses for reasonable prices instead of 2 million dollar 6500 ft homes. Some of these teams...are less experienced than others. Alison's Team: I have a preference for green in a kitchen, so I was in love. Loved the pine ceiling. However, their finishing was questionable; the wallpaper in the powder room was sloppy as hell and it was obvious that Alison had them redo certain things. The fact that they ran out of green tiles for the backsplash and had to mix in blue tiles was a very happy accident. This team has some very interesting ideas but will they be able to do the work? Ty's Team: I loved their mixture of vintage and modern, and even though the theme was "beige" there were enough layering and different textures to make things interesting. I liked this very much. The whole vibe was so beachy. Warm, welcoming, and inviting. This team is bubbly, warm, and work together well as a team. Taniya's Team: I liked the porthole and the fact that the person washing dishes has a lovely view of the beach. The backsplash, island, and countertop was dark but the beige cabinets gave the kitchen a certain lightness, and overall the kitchen had a nice bistro vibe. However, what was going on with that Tiny Tim kitchen table? Also, I can already tell the wife is going to completely railroad over her husband's ideas, and that's not fun. Happy for Ty's first win. I'm hoping this is just me projecting on him but I seriously hope he's doing okay. I know he's had some battles with alcohol addiction, and he just seems to be struggling sometimes.

Reasonably priced at $770,000? For these wrecks? I do agree with them not being 5000 sq foot monstrosities. The finish work on Alison's house was great as far installation of the ceiling and the kitchen. Even Bryan mentioned that. The wallpaper by the designer/realtor, yes was very questionable and to be honest he should have had the painters paint the walls green; not my favorite color, over that horrendous wallpaper. Yes they needed to so something in the eat in area. Buying a $30 coffee pot vs a coffee machine for a coffee bar? The pace of the show maybe too much for the designer. Ty's Team. I don't know the design had me stumped. Maybe that is was too much beige. Taniya's Team - hated all the black in the kitchen. Hate square tiles. Hate they are coming back. NOT IMPRESSED. Poor planning poor execution, the wife irritates. if hubby can't do it right do it yourself, I hate insulting dogs this early in the season. If this team does well I will be surprised. It may end up in a divorce. Sorry to hear about Ty's issues didn't know.

Beachfront property tends to cost a grip regardless of where it's at. It might be a bit pricey, but considering the area, 700k sounds about right. Something comparable in size to a beachfront property in Malibu would be somewhere around 7m and up. With Alison's house, while the guys did a great job on the ceiling and kitchen they didn't install the area around the refrigerator correctly to the point that there was a huge crooked gap between the top of the cabinet and the refrigerator. Alison was like "Um, this needs to be fixed?" I noticed it was fixed by the time the judges did the walkthrough, so that was good. Kinda excited for next week!

Battle on the Beach:
Team Alison - I liked this kitchen the best except for that hideous bright green on the island. The lighter green was fine, maybe paint that island white or something. Yikes. Backsplash was pretty and layout was fine. No to that powder room wallpaper, it looked like moldy water damage.
Team Ty - Nice layout, but too much beige for me. Some soft blue or green accents would have been nice to break it up. And I agree about having a different backsplash behind the stove, that stone would be a pain to clean.
Team Taniya - all that black was awful and dark, not beachy at all. And if you're going to use those stupid little 4 x 4 tiles, at least lay them in a diamond pattern and not stacked squares. Boring. And the wife is annoying.

I'm going to withhold judgement on the wife until I see more because it might have just been first task jitters and nervousness over being on TV.

Windy City - that had to be the most non-Alison house I've seen her do yet. Blues and whites (with some brass, of course)? I thought Mina from Good Bones had stepped in. Very pretty home, but it sure stood out from the others in the neighborhood. I'm interested to see what Alison does with her new Vegas house...

I know when Windy City started many people didn't like Alison as she came across as for only the "money". Then came the mess between Alison and Donavon. Notice how nice Alison is now? I do give Alison a lot of credit for being a "good story teller". So glad Alison did not paint the fireplace mantel black.

Windy City:I love the fact that they're still in Oak Park because it's really lovely. Judging by Alison's comments about being near the Franklin Lloyd Wright historical district that part of Bellforte Ave is directly north of there. It's still considered part of the historical district, which means there's restrictions on what you can with the front of the house. I remember Alison saying that other than changing the paint they couldn't change the windows, etc, and the home extension is in the back where it can't be seen from the street. Bellforte Avenue has a lot of lovely smaller homes with architecture styles you only see in the Midwest and particularly around Chicago; lots of bungalows and the stucco finished houses (like this client) that are 2-3 bedrooms, one bath. The houses in this area tend to be very "yard-rich" with big plots of land for the backyards, so people who want something bigger in this area of Oak Park basically do what this couple did; they had a pool, had the house extended for more room, and STILL had a biggish yard after all of that! Trust Alison to conveniently have an Arts and Crafts style door in storage! I can't think of a nicer, more appropriate home to put it in, and I loved that it was a swinging pantry door. Also glad that Alison silenced her inner demons and decided against painting the fireplace brick and mantel because they looked really good in their natural state. I also liked the cabinets that were built for the living room. Overall, the house was lovely, kitchen was fabulous as usual and you could tell Alison really enjoyed renovating this house because it's in her vintage wheelhouse. I've always liked Alison and I think a lot of the criticism about her basically boils down to certain people having issues with strong, opinionated women. Alison could not do the type of work she does, with the people she does it with (especially in this town) and be a timid, shrinking violet.

Battle for the Beach - Master Suite
Team Ty - The bedroom was a Bali vibe, I personally didn't like all the antique salvage on the bed wall it looked crappy. Just too much. Ty needs to edit his design choices.
HATED the bathroom. That was a horrendous tile job. It literally hit you in the face how bad that was. This was the time to use a tiling subcontractor.
Team Taniya - cute, light and airy, it was all finished. The judges complaint was it was too small to be a master suite. I liked the green ceiling and how it tied in with the antique green dresser the team used as a vanity.
Team Alison - spacious bedroom. I did not like the wall feature it read TOO SouthWest Cowboy not beach cottage. The bathroom was gorgeous. I question how they could have put in a double vanity in that space though. With what looked like two closets I don't know why one of the judges was complaining about storage.
To be honest it was between Team Taniya and Team Alison. I do think either one would have been OK. I do think the size of the master suites was the deciding factor. Regardless it was a well deserved win.

Battle on the Beach: Team Ty - oh wow. Did they get five year olds to install that tile? That may have been the worst tiling job I've ever seen on this network. Bedroom was okay, someone needs to round those corners on the bed platform, I can see shins getting whacked pretty easily. Team Taniya - the green ceiling didn't bother me like I thought, it kinda tied in with the vanity. Nice job, and honestly I wouldn't care about the smaller room size if I was just on vacation there. Team Alison - that goofy X on the wall needs to go. Was this the one with the gorgeous green tile? Loved that bathroom. It will forever annoy me to see people smashing perfectly good stone countertops and cabinets on this network. Quit being wasteful.

If they could cover the black and white paint it would be a massive improvement. I am really starting to question this guys design esthetic.

Hmmmm....lots of gold, lots of tin this week. Team Ty: The good: Ocean goodness. Definitely carries on the theme they already established. Reminds me of the islands or somewhere like Morocco or Egypt. I liked that the huge window in the room faced the beach. The bad: While I appreciate their experimentation with textures and substrates it's all a little bit too beige? I mean, give me some blue, green, or spice colored accents to spice things up! It's so monochromatic it's beginning to bore. There was also no storage to be found in the bathroom. Also, time was not on their side because oh my Goddess, that bathroom was a mess. Sloppy tile, no lip on the shower, embarrassing. Team Taniya:The good: This team knows they don't have the experience of the others so they play it safe and do things they can actually accomplish. Loved the green wooden ceiling with the beams and the bathroom was super cute and had storage. I liked that they reused a dresser as a sink cabinet in the bathroom and everything had a cute vibe. The bad: The room size would be a concern for me. The small room plus small window made me claustrophobic. Otherwise, this was a great effort. Team Alison:The good: Remember when the judges shook their heads and said their graphic wall treatment was for "a particular client?" Well, I am that client because I LUVLUVLUVED it! It was bold, it was exciting, different, and best of all it was in scale with the rest of the room so it didn't over power it. Lots of room, you felt like you were in a true suite. That bathroom was finished impeccably; the green tile was chef's kiss and I also think they were the only team to have a double sink. The bad: The thing I liked the most (the focal wall) is the thing that a lot of people will probably hate on sight. This will play well for a more artistic crowd but that's a small segment of the population, none of which would probably be looking for a beach house in AL.

Yes, I completely agree about the X on the wall being too much! And the black. She told him not to do it, but he went and did it anyway, then WON. ugh -- now he likely won't listen to her in the future if they have a conflict! That particular team member seems more difficult to get along with, just judging from these 2 episodes.
And speaking of difficult, that wife on Taniya's team gets so snotty! I feel sorry for her husband so far, because she's just so short with him, and this does not make it fun to watch or make me want to root for them. Although, I did like their little bedroom and their bathroom the best this week and thought it should've won.
Ty's team really messed up! I LOVED their kitchen last week! Just loved it, and they deserved the win. They didn't let him put that stuff on the kitchen ceiling, which would've looked horrible, but then this week he put it out on their little balcony. Still looks bad. The headboard by itself might have been okay, but the shutters and the way they were sticking out looked like a mistake, their end tables were cute but provided no storage, and then the bathroom! Wow! One of the judges called the tiles something (rustic? vintage?) that made me think that was kind of a reason they were uneven, but holy cow, they were installed so horribly! There was no redeeming that shower. I don't know how this show does things, but they're going to have to fix that shower before trying to sell that house at the end of this, aren't they?

Did anyone see the Windy City Rehab episode "Ground Up" (from 2022) that was shown on Sunday evening? OMG!!! This was probably one of the most GORGEOUS interiors that I've ever seen on a home improvement type of show! Granted, Alison had $1.5 million dollars to work with, but she created an interior that (to me) was so wonderful -- beyond anything I could've imagined. Just amazingly stunning!!!

Windy City Rehab: Tired from the three years of chaos in Chicago Alison's back in Vegas now! She bought a house that was very Spanish-style villa on the outside but holy hell builder's grade on the inside. However, the bones were good and enabled Alison to work her magic.
I had no idea that Las Vegas gives you a rebate if you use grass substitutes (that don't need to be watered) in your yard; Alison got back a cool 6 grand, which helped with her hefty landscaping bill. She replaced that horrible generic "bought the cheapest thing at Home Depot" front door with a beautiful arched one. Alison being Alison found other wonderful vintage finds for her home; a major one being a marble mantel made of black stone that was originally for another client that decided not to use it. The other were the beautiful old patina door in the bedroom. There was a little hiccup when the kitchen cabinets were too tall, but that soon was sorted out. Green has become a trendy shade for kitchens now, and while Alison chose more of a forest green, the lighter colors in the kitchen evened things out. I also want to point out that while she like the couple on Battle at the Beach used a lot of beige in her design she broke up the monotony by having a lot of colored accent pieces here and there to give the rooms spark.
The true "pièce de résistance" is the bathroom because Alison outdid herself in my opinion. I coveted everything from the steel tub to the tiles. Truly an oasis, with a big window by the tub to let in light, yet enough greenery to shield oneself from prying eyes; I imagined myself in the tub relaxing. And of course the outside was amazing because she poured a grip into the backyard with a custom hot tub, fire pit, beautiful landscaping, and just a great place to kick back and chill. A great episode!

Windy City Rehab - That smoky green fishscale tile in the bathroom: I want it. And that soaking tub by the window with the spout on the ceiling. And the puffy marshmallow chairs in the living room too. That shipping cost to bring the mantel over from France, though - ouch! I laughed at her pointed comments about the importance of finding contractors you can trust. Heh.

The way it was subtle shades of green that were iridescent and hit the light. That tub!
I would mix myself a stiff drink, get a good book and a bath bomb, and lock myself in for a good soak. Damn, it was nice in there.

Windy City Rehab
This season is supposed to be short about 8 episodes and was to feature Alison's new home.
That makes sense as she also mentioned during the episode that she has 8 projects going at the moment.
At times I just don't get home she can flirt across to Paris and Vegas like it is nothing. She must have an amazing team to coordinate all the builds, the designs, the space planning, sourcing material.
At least Alison had a chance to use her favorite color green. It was not too much.
Alison knows how to do a kitchen.
The final bar was fabulous.
