I just started watching this, and of course I can only start with season 4 on Netflix. But I love it! THIS is what a food show should be like. I also love how they weigh everything. I am a baker but I only recently started weighing. I usually use the measuring cups for most things, and eyeball the rest. Not the best chemistry I suppose! But it's always worked for me.

There are times that I say, "I need to watch some nice people bake" . . . and then I rewatch an episode or two of GBBO. It always improves my mood.

I love this show and especially this cast. Looking forward to seeing a "new" competition. Do any of you know how old this particular season actually is? Thanks.

Is this last year's show with the new hosts and judge, or another season?

Is this last year's show with the new hosts and judge, or another season? PBS has been airing the show very mixed up in terms of season. The one from last year with one new judge and two new hosts is the 8th overall season, but as far as I know, this new one airing on PBS is the actual 3rd season of the show.

I had thought it was the latest season and was really excited. I've been staying away from spoilers. Then I saw it was an older season and I recognized the winner after having read up about them. I might still drop in but some of the fun is gone.

YAY!!! Whatever series they are showing starts tonight on PBS. Check your local stations for time.
My Cable Guide shows two shows tonight - one at 9 PM and one at 10 PM.

I realize that this dates back several years, but I just watched the bakers walk in and I'm beyond tickled to see that it will be all "new" to me! WOOT! To be frank, even if it was a season I had seen before, I would have tuned in anyway.

I feel silly sitting in my living room with a big grin on my face watching a TV show . . . but GBBS makes me smile.

Loved watching it last night. I have been enjoying on all the old shows on PBS as they have been showing them in the last few months...so this one is "new" to me. Nothing changes as they got the pattern right the first time. It is too bad that they decided to make some changes this past season and hurt the show.

I hear, though, that the changes didn't really hurt the essence of the show. I watched a holiday one-off special with the new hosts and judges and, while it was an "all stars" I didn't notice any true difference to the format of what we've been used to seeing.
If you wish to binge the three shows that have already shown on PBS, they are on Netflix streaming.

I watched last season and Noah and Sandy were great as hosts. The new judge works well with Paul, and they had some seriously talented people and interesting bakes. I think the new season is going to start in August.

OK, I have two different PBS stations and on the one TGBBO airs at 9pm and the other 9:30pm just to confuse the issue.
I thought I may I seen this season on Youtube but it turns out I have not. I think I watched the actual "real" season 1 and 2 online. It is so confusing how PBS and Netflix are doing this.
Anyway I finally watched Episode 1: Cakes. What fun. Rum Baba's and all.
I was listening to the news and they were reviewing the most recent movies and some TV shows, and the one reporter was surprised that he seemed to be the only person at the station who had not heard about TGBBO and had not watched it. I luv'ed how the reviewer told him while it is a competition the best part it how nice everyone was and how it makes everyone smile.
Best line and I am paraphrasing horribly": "beware the 'Wood" or was it "everyone luv's Mary, but everyone's afraid of the 'Wood"?

Episode 2: Bread
I think this is the first episode I have seen where so many of the bakers had not that much experience with bread.
Watching the bakers attempt to follow plaiting instructions was fun.
I was surprised the PE teacher was not sent home this week as all his bakes in episode one and two seem to be bad.

That is what I thought about the one who did go home. It was his bread attempts that fell flat.

Life is good. The lovely photography, the cute interactions, the tension over the bakes, I love it all.

I love this show. I think this one is from 2013. It got me watching the Canadian version of the show as well.
So glad that there are other fans of the show. It makes me want to go and bake some more.
Has anyone here watched Britain's Best Bakery? It is somewhat similar. Two judges go visit 3 bakeries that have been nominated by customers and taste whatever catches their eye. Then each bakery bakes their signature bake and finally all three have to bake whatever the judges assign. One is picked and goes to the next round. The winners are then grouped and are given a couple of challenges until the final three and then one. It all just makes my hungry, but I can't stop watching.

Episode 3 - Tarts
Tart Tatins looked fabulous, I seriously wish that I could reach through my tv and eat a piece just like the judges. I felt bad for Victoria. For some reason she reminds me of Princess Diana and she is so hard on herself but had a great attitude in regards to the episode outcome. Flavor profiles seemed to be her downfall. I so wish I could have tried Jame's rose flavored tart and mini macaroons. Glad Brandon is made it to next week. I have a feeling the final maybe a male dominated one this season. Stuart the PE teacher scares me as he always seems to be on the edge of disaster. I did find it funny in the technical challenge how Sarah Jane and the Asian dude more or less ignored instructions to create a lattice topping thinking it was not that important. The entire idea behind the technical challenge is to replicate the recipe exactly not just wing it cause you can't do it. Paul's (The Silverback) comment about not doing the lattice correctly "that's lazy" was brutal.

I agree that the twisted lattice was NOT lazy... just different, but you are right...they want the recipe done exactly. I love the British word "fidley"...lots of Mary's decorations are just that.

While I liked the twisted lattice and it would be lovely on another occasion, many of the technical recipes are to assure that the bakers have the necessary skill set to be named Britain's Best Amateur Baker. If Sarah Jane had done a twisted lattice during the signature bake or the show stopper that would be totally different.

Is this a season that is available on Netflix, or is this an older one that is new to Americans?
