Are they filming later this year? I remember over the seasons, the weather in the spring would vary from actual winter coat weather to torrential rains and thunder and less so, excessive heat.

They filmed the current season in July/August, which I would guess is the hottest time of the year there.

I watched, and while I understand why things went down the way they did it still sucks. While Laura shouldn't be blamed for it the fact is she's been up/down and circling the drain for weeks. I really don't care who wins now, honestly.

I liked Hermine and I thought she had a good chance at winning the competition. Unfortunately, she had two days of bad bakes. It was very obvious it would be between Laura and Hermine as to who would be eliminated.
So glad to see Paul supporting Laura.
In the comments of the Daily Mail article one person stated that Laura told Paul that she used his cook books and therefore was his favorite and that is why she managed to survive this long. But I thought Lottie was Paul's favorite and that they were flirting outrageously with each other. So why did Paul not save Lottie?? (Total sarcasm in this paragraph). So Paul has two favorites this season??

During Bread week, Laura made that comment though I took it as tongue in cheek. I think the whole flirting thing with Lottie was pure hooey, and a little flap-doodle. (love that commercial)
Since it was so hyped by and for Hermine that Patisserie Week was hers to lose, she either had to be the winner or the loser. Peter won, and rightly so. While I hate to see her miss the final, it was her time.
I love that Dave was so proud of himself for improving over the course of the show. That they left that in edit may be telling for next week.

It seemed like Hermine just had a bad couple of days. Her signature bake didn't exactly go as planned. Laura was last in technical, but I thought that put Hermine and Laura about evenly matched at that point, so it came down to the showstopper once again. Laura's didn't look the best, but tasted delicious. Hermine had trouble with both the looks and the taste. The one cube didn't look appetizing at all. Also, in Laura's defense, I think the heat had something to do with her mirror glaze not working properly, whereas Hermine had too much gelatin in her recipe. After last week I wouldn't have thought she'd be going home, but after the challenges this week I wasn't surprised at all. It probably didn't help that they expected more from Hermine, but I don't think that's what sent her home. She was the logical choice to me.
No shocker either that Peter got star baker, and well deserved. He had a pretty perfect 2 days in the tent.
At the beginning I thought Dave would be going home early. He did continue to improve week after week. It was nice to see him so happy. The confidence has been a good boost for him.

I am so bummed, Hermine was my favorite. Sadly, that last minute change of plans in her Showstopper and too much gelatin on one of her two cube cakes sealed her fate. I wonder if she would've been able to save herself had she done only that one cube of hers that was good. As things stand right now, if they all bring their best in the finale, I think this is Peter's to lose, but anything can happen.
Another week goes by, another time I feel they maybe should really move indoors for the competition so the elements don't screw the bakers up.
And ugh, people attacking Laura is just wrong. For such a pleasant show, GBBO fans can truly be nasty and mean-spirited in attacking bakers for anything. There's Laura now, then also Deborah in series 4 and Diana in series 5, who got attacked on social media and stuff for their accidental things that happened in their respective seasons. People need to calm the hell down and get it through their thick skulls that these bakers are not malicious and are just there to do what they enjoy.

I totally agree with Arielflies, justCoz, and rembrant, it was Hermine's time to go. There was no scandal, no favoritism.
I luv how the Brit fans all blame Paul. Do they honestly feel that replacing Paul with another judge will solve anything. They will just have another judge to hate, and dis and throw shade at.

One of the things I love about this show is how generally supportive and kind they are to each other. It is rather nuts that sweet feeling doesn't translate to the crazy fans saying hateful things. For me it's such a feel-good show that even when someone I like goes home I can't be that upset about it. Since they tend to be so kind to each other I may have favorites, but never get upset when it's their time to go because I know the person staying is also nice. It's hard for me to root against them.
I like Hermine, but I like Laura too. I liked Lottie. I just don't see what the fussing is all about.

I just love all these contestants and I hated seeing Hermine go. I was especially gutted when Prue told her how disappointed she was in her performance. Gah I felt so bad for Hermine. I wonder if the pressure of such high expectations for patisserie week got to her.
Laura is hilarious. The comments and jokes she makes while baking are so entertaining. I think she should have her own show lol.

Just watched the finale and well, well, well. I'm just glad in the end they decided that the show would lose all credibility if they rewarded a mediocre performance throughout this entire run based on the strength of the last Showstopper. A sincere congrats to the winner!
In other, more interesting news, the GBBO Holiday shows will be on Netflix December 4th!

Season 8 Finale:
Wow it was a tad painful watching Laura in the signature and technical challenges, as visually her bakes were disasters but all tasted good. It was very obvious that the finale would go to either Peter or Dave unless their showstoppers were complete disasters.
I really thought Dave had won as the signatures between Peter and Dave seemed even and Dave had won the technical.
However I would have been OK with any of the three winning. Seriously if Laura could have pulled it off I would have been OK with her winning.
I did like that the producers included the bubble team in the finale and thanked them, that was very nice. I was always nice to see the snapshots of the cast meeting up with each other.
Very nice to have the memorial to Luis Troyano a season 5 finalist at the end.
Note: when the contestants said it was 35 C in the tent that translate to 95 F, that is hot, and they are using stoves and cook tops so I am sure it was hotter than that.

I liked Noel cheering Laura up. That was sweet. I don’t think there was ever any real chance of her coming back on day 2. Unless she was out of the world spectacular, and the others failed completely, she was not going to win. And that’s ok. But I don’t like the anti-Laura vitriol I’ve read at various places. Prue made a point of telling her she was a very good baker and I have to believe that’s true as she was the one actually tasting stuff. I think it was Peter’s to lose so I’m not surprised he won. Good for him. And for Dave too. I liked that he - Dave- tried to redo bakes where he had issues in the past rather than just going with the hits. Some info about the 2020 holiday special contestants - note: this is what is airing in the Uk this holiday season not what’s on Netflix. www.radiotimes.com/news/2020-11-25/great-british-bake-off-christmas-special-air-date/

I got misty at the end with all the catch-ups, with David & his new baby and then the tribute to Luis.
It brought home all the reasons this show needed to come back this year. It made 2020 more bearable. It's a great retreat.

Interview with Peter on GMA this morning 11/30/20:
By Kelly McCarthy
GMA Wake-up
After another intense season of "The Great British Bake Off," the series' youngest champion shared what made his historic victory so sweet, along with a simple two-ingredient recipe that will help any home baker feel like a pro.
Peter Sawkins is a guest on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Nov. 30, 2020.
Peter Sawkins joined "Good Morning America" from his home in Scotland after making history as the youngest baker to earn the title at just 20 years old.
"It was a childhood dream come true. I've watched the bake off for half my life and I managed to win it. It was crazy," he said reacting to the victory. "It was absolutely amazing."
In a season unlike any other, competing under lockdown in "a bakeoff bubble" due to COVID-19 precautions, Sawkins said even his roommates didn't know how the finale was going to play out.
"My flatmates did not know -- it just made the whole experience more fun cause I could watch with them in the flat and they had the excitement of not knowing whether I stayed or left. Then we had big cheers in the final when they were relieved to see me win it."
Sawkins said that even amid quarantine the competitors "had a great time -- there was so much energy, the crew was amazing -- we all had a blast." PHOTO: Peter Sawkins won the 11th season of "The Great British Bake Off." The entire cast is pictured in this photo.
Peter Sawkins' 2-Ingredient Chocolate Ganache used 3 ways
Sawkins shared his simple chocolate ganache that can be used as frosting, rolled into truffles or glazed on a cake.
"What you've done is changed a really simple pound cake into -- but it's two ingredients and super simple to do."
Ingredients 1 cup scalding heavy cream 5 ounces semisweet chocolate
Directions Heat the cream on the stovetop in a saucepan until it just about boils. Add in semisweet chocolate and stir together until smooth.
Can be used while still warm and fairly liquid to glaze a cake. It can be left at room temperature to cool then piped as frosting. Or refrigerate the ganache and once firm, scoop and form rolled truffles.

I'm so glad he won. What a thing to keep secret for months!
One of the things I love the most about this show is the obvious bonding experience it is (as opposed to most American reality tv shows where people literally end up hating each other). One of the sweetest things they showed at the end of the finale was a short clip of Hermine's children playing with either Lottie's younger relatives or Marc's daughters, so since they were also staying at the resort the bonding wasn't just with the bakers. I'm also glad that a lot of the bakers included Sura in the visits, and that they added the sweet bit about Luis at the end.
That boybander looking fellow who couldn't bake is going to be back on the Christmas Special and even though he got on my nerves while he was on the show...I'm oddly rooting for him this time around? He was on that Extra Slice show and baked the treat that got him eliminated and it turned out really nice, so perhaps it was nerves + working with a strange stove? I remember Rav, while also nice, tended to be on the bottom a lot but he spent a year working on his bakes and ended up winning the New Year's Special a couple of years ago. Maybe the same will happen with the boybander kid.

The last of the non-pandemic shows...though the pandemic show was wonderful as well.
