After seeing the little blurbs that they had for each of the finalists I was happy for all of them and would have been pleased regardless of the winner. All three are lovely people. Sandro wanted to be an inspiration to others, Abdul wanted his family to be proud of him, and Syabira wanted to be proud of herself; very relatable.
I do have to admit that the bakes could do with more time. It's not fun seeing normally competent bakers screw up because they simply don't have enough time to make something properly. That Summer Pudding Bombe fiasco wasn't the first time that all the bakers failed horribly at a technical and the judges literally had to choose the best of the worst. Sandro always has to do something a "little extra" but I didn't hold it against him as there's been bakers in the past who have done the same but it's unfortunate to see him stretch himself thin to do a lot of things "just okay" when he could do fewer things spectacularly. I also admit that I really miss Noel and Sandy's chemistry with each other; I liked her straight man to Noel's outrageousness. Now you have two dudes trying to outgoofy each other and it can be annoying.

Was a little disappointed Noel recovered so quickly.

I prefer Noel because he seems to genuinely want everyone to be relaxed and having a good time. I've also seen him block the camera with his body when a baker was upset or crying on more than a few occasions. Matt is okay, but I've seen him do things that were kind of uncomfortable to watch. And the two of them together is a hot mess.

I also remained unspoiled and watched it yesterday! Great episode and so happy with the winner. I liked how they had to use their bread in the first challenge in the technical. My only complaint was when they shower Syabira and her boyfriend I mistakenly thought they were leading up to an engagement announcement and then was disappointed when I clearly read the room wrong. Certainly, not GBBS fault though.

Looks like Noel will have another new co-host next season. Matt Lucas is stepping down from the show.

I always thought Sue and Mel were the best hosts for the show as they had their funny bits they also interacted with the bakers very well. Noelle, I guess I don't why he is funny. Noelle and Sandy were OK. Noelle and Matt Lucas were mostly flat in the humor department.

Yes, give us Richard Ayoade as a co-host, please, and give us an IT Crowd and Big Fat Quiz reunion.
In more news today, Rahul left a charming message on his Instagram that he is in India to get married! He and his bride will be posting a lot of pictures in the upcoming weeks. He also made a point of saying his wedding will be small and that there will be no cake because no one wanted to compete with his skills, lol. Congrats, Rahul!

My husband is sad that Matt Lucas is leaving. Him and Noel are the only reasons I got him to watch the show! Now if Richard Ayoade would be on, he would be very happy. Actually, I would love to see Matt Berry on the show! He has the most amazing voice.....

I am thrilled at the Alison news. She's a great interviewer, and her calm energy will mesh well with Noel's chaotic vibe.

She's a television presenter/comedian that got her start on the BBC Big Brother series. Think of her as a British Nicole Byers (without being over the top).

I have heard the September 12th in the UK and we get it a bit later. Don't know why they are so secretive about the dates though.

UK is always like that for shows; it’s not like the US where you know weeks (if not months) in advance for premiere dates. Looking forward to new season.

I have heard the September 12th in the UK and we get it a bit later. Don't know why they are so secretive about the dates though. That would make sense, since last season new episodes would air in the UK on Tuesdays, and then show up on Netflix on Friday. Which would mean we will probably get a hasty last minute promo from Netflix saying that the new season will start on the 15th. Here's hoping!

There will be no more Country Theme weeks ala Mexico Week that got so much backlash from fans. I personally find this backlash ridiculous; has no one seen the skits the comedians do? Paul Hollywood noted that he had just come spending several weeks in Mexico before the Mexico Week was filmed and what he saw and experienced in Mexico was what was also done during Mexico Week.
There will be a Party Cakes Week in addition to the regular Cake Week.

They deserved all the criticism they got, especially since people were also pissed about Japan week as well. I've been to Mexico as well and somehow I can find ways to describe the country and its customs without devolving into the usual boring stereotypical crap; it's both lazy and insulting. If they can't do a theme in a respectful way it's better they don't do it at all.

It is supposed to be light-hearted and fun baking competition, after all the big prize is a engraved glass cake stand. It does not take itself too seriously, therefore the dumb skits. Which to be honest could be totally cut out of the show. People are way too sensitive. When the themes are suggested it was always going to be the bakers take on the items produced as for many it was going outside their comfort zones regarding the flavors and types of products produced in that country. I always thought it was a fun learning experience as to what flavors and items are produced in other countries.
PS: As for the dumb stereotypes, they sell that stuff to the tourists and the tourists bring it home.

Let's just say that stuff is for a particular audience and leave it at that. It's like going to Chinatown and discovering there's two menus; one for "Americans" and the "other" menu for regulars that are dishes from the old country. Same with certain areas of Germany. There's not a country out here that won't hesitate to sell you the stereotypes of their region because sadly, that's what some people want (and expect). Personally, I prefer to take a deeper look.
One of the Baking Championship shows on FN also had a "Country" week that explored different cultures that was very tastefully done, so it is possible to handle this type of material respectfully and not resort to stereotypical tropes. I admit this sort of laziness is a personal pet peeve of mine, but I know other people's mileage may vary. I don't feel bad for them because a lot of people told them off about that abysmal Japan week and it's like they just doubled down and were like "How can we be even MOAR offensive?"

If the producers did not OK the skits about the countries because that is what people objected too and just said we are doing Mexico Week this week. Would that still be objectionably? That is not poking fun or mocking anyone. That way the focus would be on the bakers attempting dishes and flavors they simply were not used to?

This is what I found: "During the nationality-themed weeks, viewers often criticised the show for allowing the contestants to make dishes that were not authentic to the countries claiming to be represented." Last year, the show was widely criticised following its “Mexican Week” challenges. Fans condemned the placement of sombreros and maracas in the episode, as well as a cake decorated with a moustache, branding them stereotypical. The show’s presenters were also criticised for mispronouncing Spanish words, and for making “tacky” jokes. The episode also saw contestants make tacos, which some viewers described as “butchering” the famous Mexican dish.
Fans did not like the set decoration. OK, get rid of it.
Fans did not like the cake decorated with a moustache. But that was the baker's choice.
Fans did not like how the presenters said Spanish words. Oh my God. Really. Different countries, different accents. People in the USA, UK and France will all say taco differently. Get a grip.
It was very obvious that the bakers were not familiar with Mexican food. They tried.
Personally I feel people are overly sensitive. The presenters are supposed to be making tacky jokes. They were hired because they were comedians.

I remember being less than thrilled watching Mexican Week and Japanese Week. I thought the level of humor was brought down a bit, something that has been an occastional problem for the show ever since Mel & Sue left. And for me, the show failed to properly showcase what made the countries worthy of a theme week in the first place. The show should be fun, but not cringe. Good idea, half-assed execution.

I just don't find Noel that amusing and I think it got very stupid little boy humor when it was Matt and Noel.
I really enjoyed the two American comedians on the Great American Bake Off. The chemistry was better.
During Mexico Week, I do admit I laughed so hard watching the one baker who had never worked with an avocado, I almost fell down on the floor. It was not the baker's fault they simply did not know. It happens.
I just couldn't keep a straight face listening to Paul pronounce "taco".

It's never been the same since Mel & Sue left, (or Mary). They tended to be more kind and their jokes were funnier. I still watch but I skip the stupid intros they have now. I always watched whatever Mel and Sue did.
I think a lot of times the hosts trying to be funny brings the show down. It especially bugs me when they're interrupting the bakers to do a bit that isn't funny. Just let them bake!
