Faruq - "Chlorakill" to describe the bot Petunia. His intros are hilarious.
New favorite - first time Kiwis with their single spinner "End Game".
C'mon Witchdoctor! Though they are fighting another favorite, Yeti - last year's underdog.
Darn! Yeti did a victory dance with their heavy spinner still spinning.

My favorite moment so far- IceWave splitting Vanquish clean in half. I don't show much emotion when I watch TV but that got a big "WHOA!" from me

So far it's only been beaten by a specially-designed blocker and its own radio. It could go very far.

The Four Three Horsemen really kicked some bot tonight! That Double Jeopardy was an interesting concept, but they need to find somewhere to trim weight so they can hold more ammo. Maybe go with 1-pound slugs so they're not as strong but they get 5 times as many shots? Fun fact, the captain of the team is a mixologist who makes Battlebots-themed cocktails.
Whiplash could be a dark horse here - they won silver medal at the 2017 Robogames.
The main event was a letdown once again.

Hmm...the low to the ground lifters with spinners seem to be ruling the box so far. My favorite this week was the tiny yellow bot driven by the sixteen year old - 1/3 of the "four" horsemen. The bigger bots were struggling and he kept wedging underneath so the enemy couldn't get traction. Liked that one.
The cannon was a disappointment as the recoil could have done more damage to the shooter as the recipient. First time I've seen that though.

Shooter bots are heavily restricted, because their weapons can't be capable of breaching the box. The fight card is up for this Friday, and it's finally burger time! Battle Royale With Cheese, a personal favorite of mine, is fighting this week

Yeah, that was a real disappointment, I had no reason to believe that they weren’t working. Oh, well.

I thought of you when the bacon spinner and top layer went missing. It was sad. However, at least one low to the ground lost.
The lifter bots seemed to reign this past week as they could push their rivals into the screws quickly.

I don’t know why SOW took off their wedge for that fight. They could’ve used it to stop Brutus from charging right at them.
I like Icewave a lot, so I was very happy to see them pull off that win against Yeti.

I started singing "Poor Little Buttercup" when the small yellow bot (who was a hero last week) took friendly fire and was out. Without him poking the bear, the other two in his family fell quickly.
Yes, while I'm more familiar with Yeti (from last season) Icewave slew the beast.

The past few weeks have been a weeding for the top 16. Some well known bots have bitten the dust, but a favorite - Witch Doctor has new life.
The wedge/lifters still reign supreme over clamps and fire.

The list has a lot more confirmed competitors now, you should take a look at if you haven't yet. Here are some notable things: -Chomp is out, the main two on that team are expecting. -New bot from Russia called "Pinky Pie." The old version featured My Little Pony artwork, but it's unknown if Discovery can/will let them keep that. -Mammoth - a truly enormous bot that that makes Huge look puny (for real, here's a video of it www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxvQwi0dXzA). ANd keep in mind that for Batttlebots, they have 30 more lbs of weight to work with docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vT05R8FYK0rVHfqtI_XvvY2h-jytT1ImVOTdu3MPhqLQG7s_53C8nUVngXGFpyXNtPn5-mcqz6AvLlS/pub

Sorry about Chomp, but happy for the pregnancy. Has a bot from Russia gone very far before, I don't remember in the couple of years I've been watching? Wow - if they get larger than Huge, they will have a hard time as the arena will shrink in comparison making it easier for smaller flippers to maneuver - maybe. Okay, after glancing at the youtube, that bot should be ineligible. I mean anyone can build a monster smasher, but it takes smarts to create torque and steering.

The arena in that Youtube fight is much smaller than the BB arena. Mammoth is about the size of the starting square in Battlebots, so it’s bug but not too big for that arena. The Russian bot is new to BB, and the first Russian to ever compete in Battlebots

The full competitor list is here! You can see it at Battlebots.com by scrolling down a little bit to the "meet the robots" section. Here's a few of my favorites:
Quantum is a very powerful biter. That head looks like some alien technology, but it's actually from a 3d modeling technique called "generative design." That's where you give the computer your proposed design, and it finds all possible stress-failure points, then adjusts your design to give you the best possible compromise between everything. The computer can figure out much. much more complicated geometry than the human brain, so it ends up with a sort of bazillion-sided polygon
Tantrum is no longer a weak lifter, it now has a spinner on a track, that allows it to pull it out of the way, spin it up, then "punch" it at the opponent when the moment is right
The Four Horsemen calculated their weight incorrectly last time, and had to drop one Horse to comply with the weight limit. Now they've got it sorted out, and they have a bunch of more varied bots to choose from, depending on the situation.
Double Jeopardy, still skeptical about how much damage their cannon can do, but at least they can be true to their name, because the cannon now has two shots instead of one.
Railgun Max One of several Chinese robots competing this year, this being the first time that China has representation in a Western competition. They look pretty good
Valkyrie being from my hometown of Boston, now has a bowtie-blade option that they're calling Sweet Caroline (bum bum bum). I pegged them as the best newcomer last time, I'd watch for them to reach the bracket this year.

Last night was the premiere! Very destructive, exciting, and even controversial! Did anyone else tune in? Yes! Very good premiere. Not sure how I feel about Quantum getting stuck. Is it fair? Blacksmith was using AR500 steel for armor, which is very “sticky” when bitten into. Quantum has fought in China and bitten through numerous other robots without getting stuck like that before, so all evidence points to it being on Blacksmith for using “sticky” metal. The fight was over after the stop anyway- Blacksmith was on fire and its hammer controller was shot - no way it could come back from that. IMO, if we say that it’s all on Quantum to be able to separate, that’s open to abuse; everyone could put “sticky” metal on top of their robot to make Quantum get DQ’d

Episode 2 and wow, Mammoth is all I can say. That bot didn’t look like it’d work at all, but it lifted Axe Backwards right out!
