So sad I can't watch this season. Is Duck still in the hunt then?

Yes! It's bill came off last battle but it kept running! So fun.

"A Duck only a Mother could love!"
I caught that bout on the Battlebot webpage where it was listed as a spoiler preview. Amazing!
"Duck's just sitting there looking at it...wait...Duck can't look at it, Duck doesn't have a face!"
I keep trying to catch bits and pieces of the bouts where I can.

Lol!
I love any bot with a face. I just started watching this again since I stopped because they added way too much fluff, now it's more even. I forgot how much I love it and how it is so satisfying.

Unfortunately pretty much all reality shows have too much fluff anymore. I'm sorry, but I don't want to know every contestant's life story (especially since they're usually told as sob stories), at least not while I'm watching the show. Just get to the action and put that fluffy stuff on the website where people who are interested can look it up! Or devote one show episode to everyone's backstories so they can get it all done at once and viewers can decide if they want to watch it. I know I'll be tuning into something else that night.

With robots, I like to know the creators and how they will make them more efficient or badass. I don't think they have sob stories.
I love the crunches, slams and bams you get with these battles. As you say, so satisfying.

Episode 5. Nice win by Gigabyte. I think that was the happiest interview on the show that I've seen. lol
I liked last year's format of one hour episodes better. I'm not sure why some shows need to have these long episodes. I kind of zone out this season during the extra parts of the behind the scenes.

With robots, I like to know the creators and how they will make them more efficient or badass. I don't think they have sob stories.I was talking about reality shows in general. Songland, America's Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, American Ninja Warrior, etc all get more into the contestants than I want. If they could condense it to a brief summary of their origins, without the pictures and videos of them growing up, with their pets, getting their order at Starbucks, whatever, I'd be happier. There's plenty of time to get into all that if they become a big star after leaving the show. I really can't decide on a favorite bot. They're all clever and creative and have their own pro's and con's. I enjoy the battles no matter which one wins, and always feel and for the loser! I don't always agree with the judges' decision, either. I think the team that was given the win even though their robot couldn't let go of the other robot their teeth were sunk into, and therefore violated the rule of having to release the other bot after a certain time, shouldn't have won. That tells the teams that overkill is fair play. If they had made them lose for that, the team might have decided to go back to the drawing board to make their bot's bite less ferocious so they would be able to pull away when they had to.

Wow last night was very controversial. I really thought a certain bot had won, the judges saw it otherwise. I heard boos. I wonder if it had to do with keeping this big name bot in the competition.

Against all odds Battlebots is back! Season 5 has just begun filming, the season will be on TV before the end of the year. They are instituting a number of COVID precautions, including social distancing, temperature checks, heavy restrictions on who cna come in & where people are allowed to go, and biggest & saddest of all, no live audience. Here is a full list of confirmed competitors, being updated as the news comes in. docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vT2OrzfhIxs-hsM34hBMIJ-6kAzBkVbGqv1md-t5BgWq4m9RyECoHZ5ygnbcdDOTe82bwRa9QRcNKux/pubAlmost all international robots are out, including last year's monsters Deathroll and Minotaur. In fact, we only have three confirmed internationals - one from the UK and two from Canada. Also, a major shocker, the quasi-undefeated Bite Force has retired! Despite all this, there actually more robots this time than last - I believe it's 61, up from 57. Credit must be given to the teams who were notified last minute, and had less than a month to build a working robot. Here are a few I'm looking forward to: SlamMow is a very interesting "Suplexer" type of robot, with a set of moving jaws to clamp and lift robots, even lift them a full 180 degrees. They've even made a weapon option that's defensive against spinners, a must for such an intricate and delicate weapon. Fusion, a new machine from Team Whyachi. Their robots Falcon and Son of Whyachi are absent this season, instead they have a fusion of the two, with a trangle horizontal spinner on one side, and a drum on the other. Bloodsport, still a propeller spinner like last time, but now with a much more sinister looking shape full of sharp parts, and more "reach" on the blade. My favorite of all though is Chomp, who will be nothing like the Chomp you remeber from past seasons. This one features a hammer on a rotating turret, and not only that, but it's a walker, which allows it to weigh a staggering 500 pounds! I really hope this bot wins, wouldn't it be nice to live in the timeline where the walking hammerbot is the new unbeatable apex predator? Not going to lie, I'm glad Bite Force is out, while they're not a boring robot by any means, it was super anticlimactic to see them win their third Giant Nut last time. People say that someone will eventuallybeat Bite Force, but would Discovery/Sci have kept renewing the show if it always had the same ending? I'm not so sure.

This season I truly, truly hope I can find an alternate streaming as I still don't have either Discover or Science channels. I watched the finale (delayed) on youtube, but would really like to see the whole series.
So happy it is coming back.

Anyone watch last week? Rusty the Robot is from near my old hometown and still about an hour from where I live.

It's on now? Maybe by the time Discover + is available on Roku, they will still be fighting and I will pay the fee.

The Mammoth/Huge fight was one of my favorites of all time. I just watched it again and I am in awe with the way Mammoth flips. Wow. I can't even describe it.

Such a great episode last night! And the controversy! I always figured the dominant bot was the winner, but I guess it is more nuanced than that. Loved seeing Gemini fly into the air! Wow!
I also liked how The Big Dill showed up with mittens on.

Why do I even open this thread? It sounds like a great season. I discovered I could watch the episodes on You Tube, but I'd have to pay for it.

Oh no Ariel! You don't get the Discovery channel? There are odd channels that I don't get too and I have no idea why not.

I'm not sure why they were making it to be such a controversial decision in episode 3. It looked like beta won easily. There was a more controversial decision in episode 2. Kraken was definitely robbed.

Kraken was definitely robbed. The problem was that Beta never used its weapon and then it got damaged. I do think that it still won. It was in charge the whole time.

Poor Huge. I was really looking forward to the Hydra and Huge match, but then I saw Hydra's stupid modification. Hydra's driver should have lost points for poor sportsmanship and not using his main weapon. Next year they are going to have scoring on using your main weapon, but sadly, not the case this year.
I think it was Huge's driver that said it wasn't the spirit of Battlebots and I couldn't agree more.

It was boring and frustrating. And Hydra's drivers was really an a-- about it. Which bot was it that lost because, even though it was in control, it's weapon got knocked out? They need to really work on the rules for next season. And I want new judges.

Very controversial win for them, but I tend to agree with the scoring and outcome. It was still a good match of strategy and was interesting to watch. The Hydra/Huge match was the opposite - boring to watch.

I also would like to see the scoring, a la the Olympics. I never really understood the scoring and didn't really care except these bots are very complicated and expensive now that it's not as cut and dry as it used to be.
