Two hours of excuses and blaming other people for everything. What a waste of time Angela was - though Dr. Now telling her "You are more delusional than I thought if you think you can manipulate me" was a lol moment. Not buying her magical mental scale that told her she'd lost 120 lbs., either. Looking on her Facebook, I'm not seeing any real difference. Waste of an episode. I feel awful for that little girl. This is what's best for her?? Seriously? She is a caretaker in training. I give her a few years and she'll be wiping and bathing Angela.

"Waste of an episode."
That's exactly what I thought. I even wondered why they aired this episode. ONE appointment with Dr. Now, and the rest of the show was Angela making up lies and excuses. I always try to pull for these people because they are in very bad circumstances...and I like to see them succeed. But I was over Angela about 20 minutes in. I kept waiting for Dr. Now to get through to her, but he never did. Dr. Now was exactly right...pathological and delusional.

I really thought initially she would do well. She seemed well aware of how she is. She also has that poor child to take care of. She was even saying she liked the diet in one scene.....I'm glad I got bored and was switching channels.

I still hadn't watched the episode when I read all of your posts about it. I deleted it from my DVR. Sounds like I didn't miss a thing. I'm tired of these ingrates being given this huge chance - really, it's like winning the freaking lottery - and then just squandering it all like petulant children.

So is this two in a row for worthless episodes? Based on the previews for next week where they promise a "dramatic transformation," I'm hopeful we won't get a three-peat on disappointing episodes.
It really does seem like we've had more uncooperative patients recently. There've always been a few, but it seems like a lot more lately....and a lot fewer who have noticeable success. I mean, some of them might lose 50 or 100 lbs and that's really noticeable on most people, but on someone 600+ lbs, you can't even tell. Heck, they GAIN that much and don't even realize it - something I'm still shocked about.

Yep, another waste of an episode. I really thought she was going to do well, she did have a good attitude in the beginning and seemed to really want to get on Dr. Now's program. Then she kept on inhaling buckets of fried chicken and whole pizzas - even hiding some chicken in that nasty bed. *gag* It took her a year to lose 47 lbs, with Dr. Now tentatively approving her surgery on the condition that she get mobile. I don't see it happening, she was never able to stand once during the whole show. So basically I listened to that stupid, whispery fake baby voice for two hours with no payoff at the end. Fingers crossed for next week's show. Sigh.

I caught the end where she had lost 47 lbs. watched a few minutes and turned her off. She wasn't going to do what she needed and was a waste watching any more. If Dr.Now doesn't start getting some success stories I don't know how this show will last. He has got to be making a lot of money to continue with the patient type he is dealing with.

How do they vet the people who appear on this show? Because I bet there's a difference in outcomes for people who signed up for it themselves vs those who had other people sign up for them. Plus, lifestyle changes in general is HARD; you might go into something with the best of intentions but the bad habits win out (especially for people whose eating habits are a mask for some sort of trauma/psych issues), plus half the time these people can't work out because they're bedbound. As much as we want to see them having every show be a success it's very unrealistic because that doesn't happen in the real world. Look at all the people who are smaller than these people who have gastric bypass surgery who later gain back the weight.

I think that the most you can hope for with many of these people is that they at least lose a few hundred pounds. I mean, being 300 or 400 lbs isn't healthy either, but it's certainly better than 600-700lbs. At least at those lower weights, they're more likely to be mobile.
No, they can't work out much, BUT they would use hand weights (we've seen that) or resistance bands while in bed or seated. There's a guy who posted on a bodybuilding message board years ago who weighed probably 750lbs and members there told him he could literally just flail around on the couch and bring his heart rate up - like couch dancing - so that's what he did. IIRC, he eventually lost hundreds of pounds and almost got to the point where he could get skin removal surgery (people did a GoFundMe for him), but then kind of went off the rails and gained a bunch of his weight back. I think that's an example of how you can never let up or the weight can pile back on.

Yay, finally! Someone who followed the program without whining and excuses and actually lost a ton of weight. He went from bedridden, on oxygen, and unable to stand to scooting around with his walker without the oxygen tank. Pretty good. And Cillas is definitely going to need skin removal surgery, he looked totally deflated at the end.
I also read that his fiancee didn't quit nursing school to help him, she was kicked out of school...

I saw that online too, Way. It looks like she was kicked out for excessive absenses, so that's sort of Cillas' fault, isn't it? I'd guess she missed classes because she was taking care of him. I guess I wouldn't be so eager to admit on national television that I'd been kicked out of school either. Hopefully, now that Cillas seems to be on the road to becoming a productive person who can take care of himself, she can go back to school, either at that school or at another one. It was so refreshing to see someone actually follow doctor's orders and not make excuses when they don't meet their goals! I think he probably did so well in the long-term because of those months that he was in the hospital and on a controlled diet. He saw that he actually could lose weight. I'm sure that getting out of there and being able to eat all of the food was rough and would explain his lack of progress after being released. I'm glad he got things under control and figured out what he needed to do. So many of them have played the helpless victim role for so long that they just can't change. I found it odd that his "fiancee" (to whom he didn't actually become engaged to until the end of the show) wore a necklace with a HANDGUN pendant on it. I also found it odd that she just kept shoveling in that desert while he's clearly leading up to proposing to her.
This is the first one in a while where I'm actually looking forward to the follow-up episode, in a good way! I hope he's continued to make good progress. He could BE THERE in less than a year at this point. I'll truly be surprised if those two stay together long term. Really, it's surprising that ANY of the couples stay together. When one of them changes SO dramatically and, thus, changes the entire dynamic of the relationship, lots of couples have trouble adjusting.

Yeah, what I read was supposedly by someone who knows the family and said Jessica wasn't a great person, was kicked out of school, etc. But Jessica posted on Facebook yesterday that it was a lie, she's in school and on the honor roll. Who knows. Looking at Cillas' recent photos, he's keeping up the healthy lifestyle and doing well. We definitely need a follow up episode with him!

The guy (on one episode) went from bed bound to up and walking in addition to losing a large amount of weight.

I'm in the middle of this week's episode and....can we start a GoFundMe to buy Mercedes some freaking underpants!? Good grief. I don't even want to see blurred parts. Her poor family. No one needs to see that, but particularly not her little boy.
I'm sensing another absolute waste of time with her. She's saying all the right things about how she needs to change, is killing herself with food, etc., but she's still shoveling the food in.

I never saw Mercedes in shoes, nevermind underwear. Nobody needs to see all that hanging out there. Poor kids. And poor camera crew. Her daughter especially had way too much on her shoulders to be so young. Another wasted episode, but I could tell early on with all the crying and excuses that she wasn't going to follow the program. Lying to Dr. Now about what she ate - no breakfast? We saw that plate with ten pounds of bacon and sausage on it. I almost died when Dr. Now asked her if she lived in a No Salad Zone. Her cousin Brandon is a freaking saint for doing all he did, too. She had started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the surgery that she wasn't approved for (?!), but only raised $175 and now it's inactive. Sigh.

Another failure but I guess the failure rate is so high we need to expect it.
Woman needs to wear underwear. And her kids sharing the bed with her and her hoohah hanging out the whole time? And I was revolted by the whole period thing!! Those poor kids.
I am sure we will read about her passing away. She was nearly 800lbs! She will be bedridden with her poor daughter cleaning her...... what a sad life.

You can raise all the money you want to for a surgery but if you can't find a doctor to sign off on it you just played yourself. Or you played all the people who gave you money! At least very few people fell for her b.s.....including Dr. Now! I loved the comment about her living in a No Salad Zone. Dr. Now's gotten pretty fierce this season.
I just think about the people out there who would really love his help and would actually follow his plan and do what he told them to do, but for whatever reason, they wouldn't be chosen. It feels like the producers are getting a bit too interested in choosing terrible people.
The best thing to happen to those kids would be for them to get out as soon as they're able. Realistically, Mercedes isn't going to see her children become adults, especially not her son. It seems like her son's father is barely a presence in his life and there's no one else besides her cousin. I hope he's a stable influence, because he may be raising those kids soon
So, we get all those blurred shots of her crotch, but she can't go to her appointment because she doesn't have any clean underwear? What does she think is happening at that appointment that requires underwear (when nothing else seems to)? Using a pee pad during her period? There's just no self-respect or an ounce of dignity at this point, is there? I can't even imagine.
I'm having a tough time feeling any sympathy for any of these people. I'm tired of seeing them ignore Dr. Now's advice and just eat their way to an early grave. I think we deserve a few success stories...or at least a few who aren't total failures.

Yeah, that was a lowlight of the show - Mercedes talking about her period and how she can't wear pads/tampons. So she basically just bleeds all over herself, because that pee pad isn't going to catch it all. So. Nasty.
I don't know if they're showing the trainwrecks for the drama or what, but I wish they'd sprinkle in a few more success stories like Cillas.

"Another wasted episode"
Yep! Yet another one! When I watch these episodes where the person does NOTHING to help themselves, and all we see on TV are lies and excuses...I feel like I wasted 2 hours. A whole year and she couldn't get herself together. Then acted like she made some BIG accomplishment by losing 80 pounds....IN A YEAR! I guess I was entertained enough to keep watching...but those episodes get on my nerves. Early in this episode when she started making excuses, I said to myself that this was not going to be a success story...unfortunately.
