Very happy for the winner of Kids Baking Championship....the winner was such a pleasure to watch.
All three finalists did a great job with their final bakes. Duff and Valerie are a fun judging pair.

I agree. I was hoping for the cute munchkin, Sam, but happy with the winner.

Anyone watch Tournament of Champions last night? It's like March Madness, but with food.
Congrats to Antonia Lofaso for winning and going to the next round! I was never a fan of Marcel.
i love both Darnell Ferguson and Alex Guarnaschelli and was sad they were matched against each other in the first round. However, i was absolutely shocked that Darnell beat Alex by one point! To give Alex credit she took it very well well, wishing Darnell the best.
Can't wait until next week!

I'll have to watch that on demand -- I don't watch many things with Guy Fieri hosting, but I love Antonia, and I love to watch Marcel lose!

It's definitely worth a watch; it's really good. They're doing 3 teams each week (I forgot who the third team was last night).

It's brackets and Alex was seeded #1 while Darnell was seeded last. That is what made his win so surprising.
It's a Fieri show so he spins a big wheel to bring in the hiccups - such as protein, appliance, time, etc.
The two "reporters" on the floor are Simon Munjabi (sp) and Justin Turner. The dishes are judged blind, which is what makes it so interesting. They didn't know they were judging Alex vs. Darnell. Alex was funny in that she reminded Darnell that she made him a winner on the Turkey show.
The majority of chefs have an affiliation to Fieri - on Grocery Games.
I'm tired of him, but I liked watching them attack the challenges.

I like the competition, and Fieri is about 20% less Fierish as host, so that's a good thing.
But could the set and production design look any cheaper? This is built up to be the most prestigious competition in the channel's history, but the set and "wheel" look like something you'd see on community access cable. When Marcel walked off set to his dressing room the first time, they showed the other side of the door leading to the hallway and it was the unpainted side of a backdrop wall. I'm surprised the kitchen equipment works.

I'm surprised the kitchen equipment works. My partner said it looked like they reused the "Beat Bobby Flay" set and rearranged some things (like where the audience sits) and I think he's right!
I think if it does well this season they will up the budget next year. The Halloween Baking show looked cheap as hell the first couple of seasons and then the set, props, and costumes got a lot better.

Spring baking Championship is back! I can't remember anyone's names yet, but there looks to be several really talented bakers this season. I thought the guy from Puerto Rico that they sent home would stick around a while, but I guess that "plain" cake did him in. I've never seen a "fault cake" til now.

Me neither. Who comes up with these things? Too many bakers to remember them all right now. I thought the no caterpilllar cake lady would be in trouble but she was safe. The winner’s cake was very cute. Looking forward to the weeks to come.

The fault cakes were amazing, as well as the geometric tarts. This season is off to a great start!

Tournament of Champions was on last night!
Marc Murphy (2nd Seed) vs Christian Petroni (7th Seed) Marc is a well-known chef while Chris is known for winning Food Network Star. In another upset, Chris ousts Marc by very few points!
Amanda Freitag (4th Seed) vs Elizabeth Falkner (5th Seed) I have always liked Elizabeth because she's just a great all-around chef, both sweet and savory. Amanda's no slouch either (almost becoming an Iron Chef) so I knew it would be a good battle. Amanda beat Elizabeth and Elizabeth was very gracious about it.
Richard Blaise (5th Seed)vs Beau MacMillan (4th Seed) Beau is an absolute sweetheart who has turned winning Iron Chef into a bona fide career, plus he's really good. Richard, well....he's okay, but I'll never forget how petty and bitter he was to Stephanie Izzard when they were both on Top Chef (she won). Good chef, but yeah. :/ To my absolute delight, Beau beat Richard by like 6 points? And of course true to form Richard didn't bother to congratulate Beau. Ugh.
Next week is the last 6 chefs!

Watched Spring Baking Championship last night and really loved the concept of the sky and space cakes. The Northern Lights, The Full Moon, Milky Way, etc was all represented and everyone did a great job. My only quibble is I don't think the person who went home should have left. She was a real contender and won the preheat, and that should have been taken into consideration.

Exactly! She won the first round with the advantage, then they send her home for smushy cheesecake. Yeah, the chocolate cake on top of a cheesecake probably wasn't the best idea, but there were worse looking/tasting cakes there.
I would have had a hard time coming up with a nighttime space theme cake that also looked like spring. Sheesh.

What made me mad was the moon part of her cake was actually delicious; it was the cheesecake part they had issues with. Very annoyed. Judging by the look on Lorraine and Nancy's faces when they announced it they did not agree with the ruling either.

3/18 Tournament of Champions Michael Voltaggio (2nd Seed) vs Brooke Williamson (7th Seed): Michael's always been alright by me. Brooke, ugh. I've convinced that Top Chef was rigged to have her do her "redemption" storyline and win, plus she made everything with pork belly. Don't get me wrong; pork belly is delicious but she used it ALL THE TIME. The battle commences and of course Brooke is salty because the protein isn't pork belly, lol. Winner: Brooke Rocco DiSpirito (3rd Seed) vs Maneet Chauhan (6th Seed): He's a really good chef. I've seen her on Chopped frequently, and her Indian food is divine. Maneet cooked Chicken Tikka Masala and the judges loved it. Rocco cooked Chicken thigh with pomegranate molasses sauce and smothered Kale. The judges are divided with his dish. Winner: Maneet 2ND ROUND: GLOBAL ************************************************* * Proteins, equipment, etc in the randomizer is now from around the world, which means some chefs might not be familiar with certain items Beau MacMillian vs Antonia Lofaso: First Quarterfinal matchup. They had to cook a European dish using Bok Choy and quails, lol. I love them both and this is going to suck no matter who wins. Antonia did Italian and cooked Roasted Quail done in the steamer and Bok Choy and the judges love it. Beau did Spain and cooked...a bunch of stuff. Judges liked the quail but thought it was too rustic. Winner: Antonia

Extremely annoyed at Spring Baking Championship last night. That lady didn't even bother to follow the instructions for the preheat (which was to make your pate chouix look like a cat) yet she gets rewarded by sharing the win with someone that did follow instructions? They could have just said her cake was delicious and kept it moving. I remember them telling someone on a previous show that she would have been top two but she forgot to put the added ingredient in; how is this any different?

I guess the icing stripes made it look like a cat? But I agree, she didn't follow the challenge instructions, no matter how good the thing tasted. I can't believe the French pastry chef kept messing up on stuff where he should have crushed everyone else. I was hoping for better from him.

You know, after they sacrificed the superior baker last week for his "Ooh la la, I'm French" act I wasn't chuffed at all about him going home. At first I thought they were going to drag him out like that lady they had one year that was on the bottom 4 times before they got rid of her, but fortunately they sent him home earlier than that.

3/25 Tournament of Championship: foodsided.com/2020/03/26/tournament-of-champions-review-and-then-there-were-four/I was very sad for Darnell, especially when Guy told him he would have won the heat if he didn't forget to put the frybread on the plate. His food looked wonderful:( Amanda Freitag really lucked out. Speaking of wonderful, both Maneet and Christopher made awesome dishes; Maneet a ropa vieja with a saffron biryana, and Christopher jerk shortribs with plantains. I wish TVs came with Smellovision because everything looked like it smelled great. In many ways this was Maneet's round to lose and she didn't disappoint, going to the semifinals. Jet Tila and Brooke Williamson had by far the hardest dish to put together. Everything becomes more difficult when you invite Bitter Melon to the party. At first I confused it with the milder and sweeter Winter melon that is in some Chinese desserts but no, it's the more bitter, impossible to eat raw cousin. Brooke rose mightily to the occasion and made a great dish that saw her soar to the semi-finals. Rooting for Antonia and Maneet!

Spring Baking Championship: Really liked the Main Heat where they made the bike wheels out of pate chouix and had to paint backgrounds on the boards. Everyone did a good job. I was happy that the pair that got the goat cheese in the twist did well. And in the case of "One day you're in, and the next day you're out" Aisha got sent home.

I was surprised Aisha went home, I thought she was one of the stronger competitors. It was nice to see them all being so silly and having fun this week, Duff included.

Here's a question; how are they going to handle shooting the Holiday shows this year with Corona? Everything from the Halloween Baking Show onwards shoots in the late summer...maybe things will be better then? I hate to be selfish but i look forward to the holiday programminng all year!

I'm guessing they will likely shoot them later in the year (closer to the actual holidays), but maybe there won't be as many different holiday shows as there were last year. That way they can get them ready in time. Granted, there were a LOT of them last year. Like, a record number of them. So it may not seem like a shortage. The Great British Bake-Off is still expecting to shoot its new season in time for a fall premiere (it would normally start filming around now). Maybe going back will be easier for shows with no studio audience, since it's easier to isolate the crew onsite. Maybe they can establish some mild social distancing protocols for the on-camera people... Once the government restrictions are loosened, there will be a lot of hasty decision-making by the networks and producers.

Spring Baking Championship: Another marketing tie-in, this time with the new Trolls movie. The Main Heat produced some lovely cakes based on the characters in the movie, and I imagine it was very hard to judge as the judges liked the taste of all the cakes very much. Ultimately they ended up splitting hairs as out of the two bakers that were on the bottom one actually did make a troll character (even though it looked like it was melting and didn't embody hiphop) while the other took a more abstract route that did not pay off.

I like the Spring Baking Championship this year than last year. Was it last year where every bake had some sort of savory tie-in? It was so un-spring-like to me. This one has some nice springy bakes.
