Isn't Katie Lee on The Kitchen? I've seen her as a judge on Beat Bobby Flay. I don't know what her dessert background is - I thought she was savory.

Okay, I think I remember who it is now from Beat Bobby Flay! She seems like a lot of fun; I just hope she works well with Carla, Zac, and John. It shouldn't matter if she's mostly savory as long as she does both. Carla has done both (both on Top Chef and her restaurant) but then again she's the fan favorite and the only judge that has been there since the beginning.

Alton Brown just announced on Twitter that there will be never-before-seen episodes of Cutthroat Kitchen following the new eps of Good Eats on the next three Sundays!

They are beginning to show previews for the Halloween shows now. I am getting excited!
For those who like the Halloween Baking Show they are re-airing Season 4 on 9/21!

I'm absolutely stunned, and saddened. I loved him on Guy's Grocery Games and he was way too young to die. I can't imagine how guy, his wife, and the other chefs who worked with him on GGG must feel. He was just an all around awesome dude.
edit: Apparently he had a heart attack in his sleep. How horribly tragic. His poor family.

I remember when Guy went to Florida and introduced us to Carl's wife who is also a chef. She seemed to be the strong one in the relationship. I hope she finds resolution and peace.

Halloween Baking Championship aired last night. I like this bunch of bakers. However, I'm on the fence about Katie Lee.
Both the preheat and main event bakes were fun. I really liked the "Monster under the bed" concept and felt really bad for the girl who made the big eyeball that basically smashed her cake. She was lucky someone did a tasteless cake that didn't look like a two-headed monster that went home instead because otherwise it would have been her.
Afterwards there was another Halloween cake show hosted by Duff that was like the Wedding cake show with a preheat and then a showstopper that takes 5 days to create. It was funny (and nice) to see Ray from the HBC Season 3. His Showstopper was very nice but the one that blew everything out of the water was a cake of a "dead" dragon that came to life and literally breathed fire. Duff and the judges were literally cheering at that one. The show is definitely worth a watch if you have On Demand.

As soon as I saw the other two headed cakes, I knew she would be safe. I enjoyed the show. There is a woman currently on Great British Bake Off that bakes most of her cakes and breads with a horror theme. The week they did cookies she did green witch fingers.

Lots of fun last night on HBC. The preheat where they had to make liquor-infused desserts was fun, Carla doesn't drink at all so it was funny seeing her get lightheaded at some of them. The main heat was to reconstruct old school desserts into a Day of the Dead theme, ands a lot of the bakers did well. Right now, my favs are Jocelyn, Utah Man, and Mr Fong as they seem to have consistently good bakes. Naturally, Sheldon and Brittany had the bottom slots. Sheldon's dessert didn't set, while Brittany's rice pudding was horrible. At first I thought it would be Sheldon going home but at least his dessert was edible.

They're beginning to advertise the other holiday shows on FN. I saw ads for The Thanksgiving Challenge and the Holiday Baking Show. Lorraine Pascale is going to be on the Holiday Baking Show along with Duff so maybe she got tired of doing the Halloween show? As a Carla fan I'm glad she will be on the Thanksgiving show with Duff.
Last night's Halloween Baking Show was like one big advertisment as both the preheat and the main heat had them creating things for the new Adams Family movie. For the main heat they had to make cakes that were like portraits of different Adam Family members. Jocelyn made a great deconstructed Grandma cake, while Mr. Fong made a fantastic Uncle Fester. The winner made a wonderful Pugsley and the actual cake was so delicious the judges ate all of their portions. Sheldon finally went home after his Wednesday cake basically collapsed and didn't taste that great but he's run into time management issues the whole time he's been on the show. I felt really bad for him.

I felt bad for him, too, especially since he won the pre-heat with his partner, Karl Fong (from Hercules in NorCal).
I thought Alex Guarnaschelli (sp) hosts the Thanksgiving show like she did last year. She was in the commercial. Duff has that new Halloween cake show.

The commercial I saw just showed Carla and Duff so perhaps Alex is the third judge?

The commercial I saw had one of the newer "Star" winners (Christopher?) sitting at the table...unless they showed a bit from last year.
Boy, Duff is hosting a lot of shows this fall.

Duff is up there with Guy and Bobby Flay for the amount of shows he has on the network right now. From what I've heard he's really easy to work with which goes a long way. Carla is also easy to work with but up to now she's always been busy with The Chew with Michael Symon (Iron Chef America, Burgers Brew and Q) to do more FN shows other than the Halloween one.
I hate to be a Negative Nancy but the HBC panel has been a downer since Lorraine left. It doesn't have the same energy. I don't want to blame Katie, but...yeah. Is it just me?

No, I prefer Lorraine too. But Katie is fine I guess. And Carla is still there and she’s the best judge.

Maybe it's just her Britishness but I love how she used to describe the bakes and puts emphasis on certain words. "It's like a BLEEDING BLOODY HEART!" Interesting enough, she's famous in her own right; she was one of the first Black models on Sports Illustrated and had a very successful career. When she started to age out of modeling she went to culinary school and specialized in baking, has written 2 best-selling books about cakes and had her own television show in the U.K. Food Network actually headhunted HER to be on their network, and now she spends time between NYC and London. What a remarkable woman!

There are sooo many holiday shows it's hard to keep track. Poor Jocelyn (I think that was her name) on Halloween Baking Championship last night - she had soup instead of a pie, which got her sent home. I think Karl is going to win this one...

I love Karl and his bakes so I would be more than okay with him winning. I'm glad he won the main heat last night.
I really liked Jocelyn and her creativity and was sad that her pie was soup. You could tell that the judges felt bad about it because Jon stated "Well, we have to go by the rules." Technically, she did not have a pie, so she had to go.
That Halloween show with Duff that comes on afterwards is wild as hell. Someone made a ofrenda that opened up on its own to reveal a half skeleton/half flesh Frieda Kahlo. They won too.

I have been watching reruns of THE KITCHEN so all I am seeing for commercials are ads for either WAR or CHALLENGES be it Halloween, Thanksgiving or Holiday...seems like a lot of the same type.

This time of year the holiday challenge shows are in abundance. One I like that is wrapping up next Sunday is a Gingerbread building challenge because one of the judges is J. Smith.

I'm watching a new episode of Halloween Cake Off right now and I remember both Brian and Christina (contestants) being on Food Network shows before. That's the nice thing about this network; if you're good but didn't win they will invite you back on another show.

I thought those two looked familiar on Cake Off! Christina did well - they all did, but I felt so bad for the poor girl whose mummy cake fell apart. It looked good, just couldn't hold itself up. On Halloween Baking Championship, I don't know how she made a cake with fennel. I think I would have just walked out right there.

I can't believe Julie went home last night...I thought for sure it would be the other lady since they seemed to like her cake a little more. Hopefully Karl will win next week!
