As FireWoman said, (which I totally forgot about) Phillipa is Kate's Sister's name and obviously the nickname is Pippa (which she goes by as we all know) but I now HIGHLY doubt H&M will name their daughter that. I will say weren't we all mostly surprised at the name Archie, so I am guessing it won't be either Diana or Elizabeth as a FIRST name. More like middle names.

Also are you pronouncing it fil-eep-ah or fil-ip-ah? I'm pronouncing it Phillip with an A on the end because that was his name

I love the name Philippa (Pippa) personally, but I can't see her doing that because it is also Kate's sister's name. I can however see Beatrice doing it.
I would not be surprised if it was a name to honour Meghan's side of the family (read her mother) and use a form of Doria. But then again, Archie's name was out of left field when it comes to royal names, her daughter's name may be as well and have no connection to anyone. I know I wanted to do this for my child when she was born since our family had so many names after the same 2 or 3 people.
This is my fave part of Royal Watching, guessing.. and waiting for.. the new baby names! We have a while to wait for Beatrice's choice, but Meghan has what.. like 4 weeks or so now?
Well I like Pippa. I guess I have a thing with "male names" with an added A on the end. It's so obviously just trying to make a "male name" into a "female" version. I think an honor to Diana would be perfect. Whereas I am ALL for anything that pays respect to her, and it is my name as well, Princess Charlotte's middle names are Elizabeth and Diana so again, who knows lol.
and yes, Philippa is Phil-lip-pa, so yeah Phillip with an A lol.

Archie came out of left field and left everyone scrambling to figure out where it came from. I think they’ll do the same with this baby. Using familie names would put them in a cage and they’re not down with that!

And I agree, I am thinking baby girl's name will also not be something we expect. I do feel we may see both Diana and Elizabeth in H&M's baby's middle name (even though Charlotte has those names in her lengthy Royal name).

JMHO, but considering how they've alienated themselves from Harry's family, I think them choosing a name from his family (in any part of the baby's name) would feel really disingenuous.

Yeah, I just don't see that happening. I just don't. Maybe I'll be surprised I've seen reports tonight that one of the Queen's new puppies has died. Nothing further about what happened, but she's pretty devastated. Under normal circumstances, that would be upsetting, but NOW? Even worse.

I meant do you think it would be disingenuous for them to use Diana's name? I don't keep up with everything enough to know one way or another whether they would or not. My mom has passed and whether I got along with the rest of my family or not I would think it would still be considered a very lovely tribute to name my daughter after her. The fact that something so sweet and wonderful could be seen as disingenuous just makes me sad for the entire family that they have to live under such scrutiny.

To me, the other piece of the puzzle in using Diana as a name is that Harry talks all the time about his fears of her struggles being repeated - in giving a girl that name, are those burdens placed on her? Now, I don't think that Harry's actions always back the rhetoric he gives about his family struggles, so it's not a logical certainty. But there are questions there.

I went to look and see on the odds for names of both babies.. Harry and Meghan: Allegra, Isabella, Alice and Abigail are in the top picks. Diana is the highest on the list, but as many of us stated I still cannot see it being used. Allegra is name that Diana was partial to, and wanted to name her daughter should she have had one, so that one makes sense. Isabella is the Italian, and Spanish, form of Elizabeth so that makes sense too. I had a good chuckle over the fact Oprah and Kamala are on the list as well. Bets are on late June and early July for due date. Beatrice and Edoardo: Arthur, Albert, James, Edward, Oliver, Theodore, and of course Phillip. But that is also her sister and cousin's choice for their children's middle names... so who knows. Since they look to be keeping with tradition and not announcing the sex they also listed a couple girl names. Florence, Alice, Sarah, and Victoria are top and more British names. They also mention a few that are in the running that pay respect to his Italian side like Maria, Anna and Rosa. There are also odds on the sex Boy is at 2:1 and a Girl is 4:1 and my fave.. royal Twins! 24:1 lol. Odds on the due date is in fall, October. Let us not forget that most royal babies have multiple names so there is a good chance that any of the names mentioned could show up in some way! Because of her husband's Italian roots I am most excited about this name to see what they come up with

I didn't realize that Isabella and Elizabeth were different versions of the same name. How interesting! Usually there's more of a linguistic similarity between the variations like John and Ioan. Even though the letters are different, you can sort of see a common etymology. Since I love stuff like this, I'm now off to sleuth how Isabella and Elizabeth are related. REPORTING BACK: Isabella and Elizabeth both come from the Hebrew name Elisheba. I can totally see how things could have gone in different directions from that name to become either one of the later versions. So interesting! And FYI, Elisheba's meaning translates to "pledged" or "devoted to God," which is a perfect name for a queen who believes that her calling and responsibilities come from God.

LOL MissGriss look at you and your sleuthing! I found this out when I was pregnant with my daughter, I wanted to name her Isabella so bad and my mom hated the name. She tried everything to get me NOT to name her that and one of the arguments my very Italian mother brought up was the fact I was going with Elizabeth as her middle name (after my Great-Aunt/Godmother) and to name her Isabella Elizabeth was redundant lol. Needless to say, she was named something else. Funny you mention the meaning of the name Elisheba in conjunction, the name Phillipa/Philippa and Phillip means fond of horses or horses' friend. We all know how much the Duke loved his horses too! Very aptly named in his case as well given his equestrian accomplishments.

I don't follow the Royals but like to read up in this thread. Only thing I have to add is a minor correction. The Spanish equivalent of Elizabeth is Isabel, and not Isabella.

Her name is Elizabeth Belle. The Belle is after my grandmother Isabel, who went by Belle.

Yeah it morphed as it made its way through Europe. Isabeth, Isabeau and Isabel, before Isabella and Isabelle. Each country had its variation depending on the region and time in history. It really does have an interesting history attached

I think that, based on recent events, them naming their daughter Diane might come off as them being manipulative or trying to sway public opinion. I just think it's a no-win situation if they used that name. We're all commoners and private citizens. It's totally different from what's going on in the royal family in front of the whole world.
I've seen a few "journalists" attack the Dax Shepard podcast, Harry AND Dax. One British morning show host, Phillips Schofield, was super rude, saying Dax talked too much about himself and is a terrible interviewer, thus showing that he doesn't understand what a podcast is and definitely doesn't know what THAT podcast is (a conversation and NOT an interview). Considering all the not-so-great things I've read about PS, I think he should probably keep his mouth shut. Others have attacked Harry for likening his life to living in a zoo, but really, how would those people know what Harry's life is like? He's allowed to describe any way he wants. Only people on the inside know what that life is like and only HE knows how he feels about it.
While I did think the timing of that Oprah interview wasn't respectful, in light of Prince Phillip's death, I do think Harry's entitled to speak publicly about his mental health struggles, especially because he's doing it to help others.

Hearing what Harry had to say in his docuseries The Me You Can't See about his upbringing and the mental turmoil he was in really tugged at my heart. I'm so glad he is doing this docuseries and I'm glad that both he and William have spoken their peace about the controversial BBC interview that caused their mother so much pain. Harry has really come into his own. He and Meghan co-chaired Global Citizens Vax which was really successful, and on their wedding anniversary they announced that their Archewell Foundation plans to build a Community Relief Center in India, something I think his mother would adore. As for what will they name their new little one? No idea but I do love what they named their son - Archie is a great name, and Harrison was just darn clever. Harry said of his mother in 2017, "She smothered us with love, that's for sure." If it is at all possible for him to name his little girl with a nod to his mom, I'm thinking he will, and how wonderful that she will be arriving around what would've been Diana's 60th birthday.

Congrats to the couple! I would never have guessed the name. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are now a family of four! The Duchess of Sussex welcomed the couple's second child — a baby girl — on Friday. "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world," read a statement from the couple released on Sunday. "Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home," the statement continued. "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales." people.com/royals/meghan-markle-prince-harry-welcome-baby-girl-named-lilibet/?utm_campaign=peoplemagazine&utm_content=manual&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_term=60bcf142ba52ee00010b449c

I absolutely LOVE the baby’s name!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Me, too! I think it's really sweet! I was kind of hoping for Lilibet. My mother was the same age as the queen and grew up hearing her referred to by that family nickname, and it became her nickname for my younger sister Elizabeth. My sister actually referred back to it when choosing her"grandma name". She goes by Grandma Lili. 😊

I read in one of the many articles that Elizabeth became lilibet to the family because when very young, she couldn't pronounce Elizabeth. Phillip then carried forward with the nickname.

I've read in a couple of places that the BRF tradition is to not use as a first name for a baby the name of any living royal. They can use those names for a middle name, but not a first name. I've been trying to think of any examples that are an exception to that to figure out whether or not it's true. Can anyone think of one?

Well, splitting hairs, but Lillibet as a full name is not using Elizabeth as the first name. They backed off by going cute, it seems to me. Also the baby will be known by the nickname Lilli, so that takes it further away, while still honoring the great grandmother.

I'm glad that all went went well and mother and daughter are resting peacefully. Not looking forward to the "I wonder what she looks like" (and we know exactly what they are inferring to) brigade but the nice thing is they can release pictures in their own time. I know they aren't popular here but I really want the best for Harry, Meghan, and the rest of their little family.
I also realized they have a Royal Flush--a boy and a girl!
