I saw her right away, I read she was dancing as they were taken. Perhaps for her 40th, she wanted something different, but I still knew it was her, a natural beauty. Oh FannyMare I totally agree she is a natural beauty....BUT I still cannot see the Kate that we have come to see/know/love since she started dating William. I cannot see the Kate in the sheer dress she walked the runway with at University when she first caught William's eye either. I think that the photos show that Kate has many facets, like a rare gemstone, and the photos show yet another side. You say the "Kate we have come to see/know/love.." I think the photos were clearly about the Kate that her family knows and loves. Maybe even just the Kate she knows and loves.

Meh. Rebranding. Just like the piano performance.
Nothing against Kate, I just see more going on than pretty pics.

She's married to a future king! No rebranding needed.

I have nothing against Kate. But why have we not seen pictures like these of her before now? She is an absolute BEAUTY. But I do not see the Kate we have seen for years in these pictures. JMHO.

I had special pictures taken of me for my 40th birthday. As FannyMare says, "Sometimes a portrait is just a portrait."

I think the point Kate is trying to prove, if anything, is to get people to see her as something other than William's wife. Judging on nothing more than what I've seen of her, I think that when she married William she became "William's wife", "the future Queen of England", "Mother to the line of succession". She was no longer an accomplished woman who's goals, accomplishments, likes, talents, etc. meant anything. Her college degree became useless & immaterial. She became the Plus One in the Royal Family.
I think at 40 this may be getting to her. She probably had dreams of what she wanted to accomplish by this point of her life. She wanted to be more noteworthy than a Plus One. These pictures are a "Look at me" act. Not in a negative way, but she wants people to see her as an individual person.
In comparison, at this point in Diana's life she had "causes". An individual personality. She regularly interacted with the public & foreign dignitaries. She stood out. She was very much her own person. Even Charles commented on this multiple times. People showed up to see/meet Diana, not Charles. He was the afterthought most times she was there.
Kate, on the other hand, doesn't have that image. I think she's feeling lost in the process, and at 40 it's getting to her.

There is an element in these photos as was said earlier, in emphasizing her art history knowledge. She is taking little steps that don't disrespect the need to fall in line with the royal family and her role there, but do emphasize the skills she brings to that role as an individual. It also says a lot that she is doing it in quiet subtle ways when you consider that some of the friction between Diana and Charles came because he thought she was trying to overshadow him.

When Kate picked Paul Emsley to do her 30th portrait she though it was "just amazing... brilliant" while art critics afar said it looked nothing like her.

Thanks for the article. I thought it was fascinating how they compared Kate to Princess/Queen Alexandra. She was the consort of Queen Victoria's eldest son and heir, Edward VII, at the turn of the century. I was kind of surprised that the author didn't point out the most obvious comparison. Edward was a notorious philanderer. He grew tired of Alex after she had done her duty and produced the kids, and spent the rest of his life in the bed of Alice Keppel (ancestor of Camilla Parker-Bowles). Alex kept the "stiff upper lip" and pretended everything was fine, but everybody in their circle knew. At Edward's deathbed, Alex infamously summoned Ms. Keppel because she knew that Edward would want to say good-bye to her. Oh my gosh. As much as I love the past, I have no real desire to live back then.

So now the facts are being played out in pubic - Harry had been seeking and is still seeking to pay for his own security when in the UK. So far his request has been refused and while he was in the UK for a charity event (I assume the unveiling of Diana's portrait around her 60th birthday) his safety was compromised. linkWonder if this will quiet down all of the people who were accusing him of wanting to mooch off of taxpayers even though he was no longer a Royal. Doubtful.

If there's nothing there, these people will make something up.

Why was Harry complaining in the Oprah interview that their security wasn’t being paid for if all he wanted all along was to pay for his own security?

^ That’s not at all what he said.
Prince Charles has covid again, and this time around both Camilla and the Queen have caught it.

Lets get real, Charles secured the Royal Consort bag for Camilla, then coughed on the Queen... Oh my goodness, Kao, you're so naughty. lol I sure do hope the Queen doesn't have major complications. I know they are all vaccinated, but gee, she's 95. My FIL was 96 last February when he contracted COVID and he survived, although he wasn't vaccinated at the time.

Lets get real, Charles secured the Royal Consort bag for Camilla, then coughed on the Queen... I didn't think of coughing. When the Queen announced that Camilla should be queen after her, I remember thinking, "You'd better have a servant sip that tea first from now on." In Agatha Christie stories, it was usually the tea or coffee.

Meanwhile, in "Hold my beer, I haven't been horrible enough" land we know that there are many trolls spreading outright lies about Meghan Markle on Twitter (she was never pregnant, those kids aren't theirs, she was the one who started the rumor about William and that lady Rose and other ugliness). What we didn't know is one of the accounts with the most abuse belonged to *drumroll* her half-sister Samantha! She's claiming it was hacked but the horrible comments date back YEARS. The data analytics firm Bot Sentinel pointed out that about 70% of the abuse came from only 83 single-topic anti-Sussex accounts, and according to a poster in another forum they traced back over TEN of those twitters to Samantha. In addition to that, the good sis has been working with another British woman on Youtube on an anti-Meghan conspiracy site that was quite popular (because people ~love~ to hear horrible things about Meghan) and was making thousands a week before YouTube shut it down and there might be a lawsuit for conspiracy? I can't imagine hating a sibling this much that you spend all of your time putting them down and spreading lies about her online but unfortunately I have siblings that I disowned decades ago and if I ever became famous they would crawl out of the gutter to do all of this and more. I feel so horrible for Meghan and the members of her family that aren't jealous greedy pieces of crap. www.vanityfair.com/style/2022/03/meghan-markle-online-trolls-false-theories?utm_social-type=owned&utm_medium=social&mbid=social_twitter&utm_source=twitter&utm_brand=vf

Jealous much? I can't say I'm surprised...it sounds like all the other stories we hear about her. I feel bad for Meghan having the family she has. At least her mom is a decent human being.

Man, that was a nasty article filled with speculation and destructive opinion!
Can you imagine reading something like that about yourself? Jab after jab. Oh, they haven't seen her in so long! Oh, they haven't personally introduced her to their daughter! Oh, they need to be in the palace reconciling if they know what is good for them! And oh, Harry should've been present last month for his grandfather's memorial...
No mention of the fact that they haven't been because of 1) COVID, 2) the Queen's ongoing bout with COVID and another unknown illness that hasn't been shared with the public, 3) lack of security, and 4) a prior security breach during a visit. I wouldn't take the children there, either! They stopped in on their way to the Invictus Games and comments like these get thrown their way. UGH. I would abhor a life of being judged like that.
They don't "need a win", for Pete's sake!
