Very interesting theory. I'd love for it to be true! I actually had a different theory on why Whoopi has been absent from The View. However, the day or so before she was absent, she sounded congested, so I think it's quite possible that she actually is just simply sick. If they had a secret host, it would make a big splash at the start of the show when they revealed it. However, keeping it a secret would completely remove any chance to promote the show and build up an audience over excitement over the host - which is a key reason why a good host is so important. I've seen so many reports about how the producers are worried about the show this year - pulling in non-movie celebrities to drum up excitement, etc - that I think if they could pull off something like that, they would not be quiet about it. Hope I'm wrong!

I fell like Lady Gaga takes herself very seriously. She is talented but can be very rehearsed in interviews, repeating the same thing. Maybe it is just nerves.

Lady Gaga, ex run into each other as she hangs with Bradley at pre-Oscars partywww.aol.com/article/entertainment/2019/02/23/lady-gaga-ex-run-into-each-other-as-she-hangs-with-bradley-at-pre-oscars-party/23676556/LG, the “Million Reasons” singer was also spotted alongside her A Star Is Born costar Bradley Cooper at the same event. The pair were talking “in a corner together all night,” the insider reveals to Us. “They looked so close, they almost seem like a couple,” the source adds. Fans have been speculating that there are romantic sparks between the costars, despite the fact that Cooper is dating Irina Shayk, with whom he shares daughter Lea, 23 months. The model was not present at the party. Is this why LG broke off her engagement?

I feel like Lady Gaga is WAY too focused on winning awards over actually becoming a good actress. The levels she's gone to to pander and attempt to get votes is eye-rolling. Frankly, the ads for ASIB are way too much. It feels desperate to me. This isn't high school elections or something. IMO, if she wins, it will be another Oscar for singing (looking at you, Jennifer Hudson). There's been more than one story about Gaga throwing tantrums after not winning an award this season. She's talented, but that level of entitlement and childishness is a turn off. I adore Olivia Colman and would be thrilled if she won, but I'd love to see Glenn Close FINALLY get her due. THAT is a true actress! After the Golden Globes, I read a story that OC and GC were rooting for each other and would be happy if either of them won the Oscar.....just as long as LG didn't win. They feel like she hasn't paid her dues. I have to agree with them on that. Gaga's relationship was super fake, BTW. Actually, BC's relationship is super fake too. He needs to just come out of the closet and be done with it. Or at least stop trying to act like Mr. Married Guy all the time. I hope Irina Shayk is paid well. From all accounts, he treats her like cr@p. I don't know what the point of that nonsense is, but it's so silly. I don't care who any of these people is dating. Just focus on your acting! I've gotten so cynical about this stuff that I pretty much think any show biz relationship is fake.
ETA: The documentaries rarely get seen by the general public, especially before the Oscars and especially the shorts. I haven't hunted down the rest of the nominees, but you can watch A Night at the Garden here: anightatthegarden.com/It details a little known part of US history - a Nazi rally in 1931 at Madison Square Garden. It's pretty shocking stuff.

I finally watched Roma last night so that I can say I’ve now seen all the best picture nominees. I enjoyed it, and knowing the inspiration for the movie makes it that much more special. It was a beautifully shot film and I’d gladly give it nods for cinematography. But seeing it did not change my opinion that BlacKKKlansman was the best film of the year. For the way the story was told, performed, the combination of humor and a compelling statement, the way music was used to advance the story and everything else about the film, if I were in charge Spike Lee would be walking up to the stage tonight ... twice.

I heard Lady Gaga got upset after she didn't when the Golden Globe. Part of me is annoyed, part of me wonders if she has really low self-esteem. I wonder if she feels public attention and awards makes her feel better about herself. I have not see A Star is Born. I am tired of that song Shallow and the ads for the movie. It is like they are wanting to get votes for Homecoming Queen.

I agree acookertv about BlacKKKlansman. I thought this film was wonderfully made. I was thoroughly impressed with JD Washington. Wow, and I had no idea watching the movie (which was awhile ago, when it first it the theaters) that he was DW's son!! Outstanding performances by all the actors. SL did an amazing job on this film. It was riveting. SL could get BD tonight. BUT I have to say I reallllllly loved BR!!! I have no idea if it has a chance but I thought RM was amazing!!! He took that role and he threw everything he had into it!!! I saw BP and absolutely loved that as well and my son who is an attorney but has slowly shifting into a FILM career had the AMAZING opportunity to have a sit down meet and greet with Ruth Carter a few months ago in Baltimore. He was there to do a film shoot and she was there meeting other people and just so happened that several people Michael was working with wanted to grab a coffee and with RC and so he joined them. But yes BP was another outstanding fabulous movie. We are going today to see GREEN BOOK. So that will be it for moi. I have not seen the others. I actually have had no desire to see ASIB at all. Yes, I like both LG and BC but this movie was just not something I am interested in and yet I have a ton of friends shocked at me and they have all seen it 2 and 3 times. Whatever. ROMA, VICE, FAVOURITE ..... I do want to see all these movies at some point.

Follow your instincts on A Star is Born. I had no desire to see it but figured I was wrong after all the raves and went to see it. I went with an open mind but thought it was terrible. I commend the marketers behind it for creating the image and response they did.
Be prepared for The Favourite before you see it. I didn’t hate it, but know a few people who did because it was darker and had some twists that were not expected based on the way it was marketed.

The Favourite was delicious, I think Olivia Coleman is wonderful Roma ,we tried twice and haven't bothered with it since,. I fell asleep..

The back of Charlize Theron’s dress is amazing. The front? Um, a bit....pointy. It just looks odd. It also looks like she’s slouching. Gorgeous woman. Just not loving the dress.

^^^^Not really. It was a huge movie last year and they know people watching at home will probably want to see them. [ETA: this was in reference to Crazy Rich Asians] I always forget how much I hate the red carpet shows until I watch them. UGH, the butt kissing. I can't take it. I think my big issue with Gaga is the open desperation and self-promotion. Having BC come on stage at her show in Vegas so they can sing together. Of course, that ended up on YouTube instantly and was conveniently (I'm pretty sure) before the ballots were due. It feels like how Anne Hathaway was just TOO into winning the year she won. It was too much and I don't think she ever got back the level of popularity she had before that. It just turned people off. IMO, the awards are nice, but the WORK is what should matter. Having visited my parents in SoCal ahead of the ballots being due, we all commented on the sheer number of ASIB ads - in print and TV - geared to Academy voters. It was just excessive. I also read a bit about how Gaga pushed out the very experienced musicians BC had brought in to work on the film's music and replaced them with her band. It was just kind of sh***y behavior. REALLY pulling for Glenn Close tonight! I won't be sad if Olivia Colman wins, but I really want GC to FINALLY win her Oscar! It looks like those rumors about Ashley Graham having gastric bypass might be true.... Jason Momoa in a pink velvet tux designed by Karl Lagerfeld = :hearbeat
I'd like Amy Adams' dress more if it wasn't white. It just washes her out. I love the actual design and all the texture and it's fitted perfectly. I just think she needs a stronger color.
I'm really crossing my fingers for Spike this year! He's so earned this one!
I'm not sure if they aired these specials in other markets, but when I was in SoCal, my parents' cable company (I think they have Spectrum) aired these roundtable discussions from Hollywood Reporter with nominees for awards this season (not necessarily just the Oscars). They did actors, actresses and directors. It was SO interesting. You just don't normally see people like that sitting around and talking about their craft. Spike was in the one with the directors and he was utterly charming. They might have them available on the HR website, if anyone is interested

I don't mean to be rude, but I can only tolerate still photos of the red carpet. I kind of shut off when they start talking about themselves. I can find out the designers from the media.
i surprised people aren't rocking out more to Queen. It's Queen!

I'm sure Free Solo is incredible, but I can't even watch clips of it without feeling sick to my stomach. I'll just watch people climb El Cap from the ground!
Jason Momoa and Helen Mirren = sexiest pairing tonight!

I'm happy to see Black Panther get at least some Oscar love. It probably won't win the BIG one, but Costume Design is something!
Spike Lee in his purple suit. I just love him.
I'm enjoying seeing the men in color! Nice to not have a sea of black tuxes!

As much as I wanted this to be Amy Adams year and she would have deserved it, Regina King was the heart of a movie that had a lot of heart. She EARNED that award ... and didn’t resort to category fraud to get it

JLo looks like a disco ball. Nicely cut, but it's a little too reflective. It doesn't look comfortable to sit in, that's for sure. Another Black Panther win, this time for Set Design! Then she pulls out her phone to read a speech from it. Boo! Just talk! Great dress though.
As soon as anyone pulls out a prepared speech, I sort of tune out. I get that people are nervous, but they always come off as a)wooden and b) presumptuous. Please don't act like you expected to win.
