This Is Us has been renewed for 3 more years. Or 70 more years, depending on how you look at it. I still love the show ------ BUT MFWalkoff, your comment had me literally laughing my butt off!!!

I'm still really bummed about For the People, but if it had to end, I think they went out with an excellent episode. While they certainly could have continued, they wrapped up the stories nicely, or at least left the characters all in a good place. That closing argument Kate gave in the voter suppression/fraud trial was SO good. Excellent writing. I also enjoyed those last shots of the various characters going in and out of the courthouse, just living their lives. I'm really going to miss that show

Does anyone know if The Village and The Enemy Within has been renewed? "Speaking on NBC’s press Upfronts call, the pair said that no decision had been made on the shows, although sources suggest that it is unlikely that they will return to the network."

I'm really going to miss that show I've only watched about 4 or 5 episodes but I agree, it did end well if it has to be the ending. Do they have both seasons somewhere that I could watch? They might need to rethink their demographic targets. The 20-somethings I know don't watch that much TV, and if they do it's more likely to be streamed. I know that younger adults used to be their target age, but if older people are who are watching then perhaps they should start paying attention to those numbers instead. Or maybe start by raising it from what it is now to 10 - 15 years older all the way around.

I hate seeing good shows or shows with potential get taken off the air! If you consider all the cable channels devoted to old shows, you would think they would want to appeal to an older crowd.

Empire has been cancelled. I can't say I was surprised to hear that but it makes me sad. The show was so good when it started. It will end after season 6. Were the ratings getting bad for the show even before the lying incident?

The shows they are adding and cancelling get streamed too, and the networks get ad revenue from that streaming - not to mention royalties when it continues to live in streaming for a long time. So whether you're watching shows live or via streaming, the networks care and get advertising money for it. Truthfully, the one they care about the least is DVR viewing, because if you fast forward through commercials, advertisers know it and they don't pay as much when you don't actually watch their commercials. With streaming, most of the time they are not skippable, so there's more value there.

I think of streaming as ad free, but with ON Demand, for the most part you are captive for commercials. The streaming at Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and Sling is on a platform that costs a monthly fee so it is not free but a paid contract with the network provider. BUT you can't stream a network unless you have a cable connection with that channel open for the most part. No such thing as truly free TV except for Broadcast channels.

BUT you can't stream a network unless you have a cable connection with that channel open for the most part. No such thing as truly free TV except for Broadcast channels. There is a lot of ad supported streaming. Netflix is ad free, things that are ad free on TV such as HBO Go are ad free, and Hulu offers an ad free subscription. But outside of that, you've got ads, and for the most part they are non-skippable. In terms of the networks and programming decisions they make, if a show is popular enough that a streaming service like Netflix chooses to offer it, the network gets money for that. So all in all, networks have reason to care about a streaming audience almost as much as they do a live audience.

With the exception of Hulu though, I don’t think any of the other big streaming services offer episodes so soon after they air on tv. That would be the only streaming numbers exec could look at in the same way they do OnDemand numbers. I’d guess they also have a way to track DVR viewing too.

With streaming, most of the time they are not skippable, so there's more value there. I was thinking of streaming as Netflix and Prime. On those I don't watch ads. I forgot about Hulu since I don't stream from there. I'm fairly certain I read they do look at DVR numbers for 24 hours and a few days after. They should count those because that's about the only way I watch show, and I can't be the only person doing that. If I watch a show "live" I still pause my DVR for 20 mins so I can skip commercials. I waited until about 45 minutes or so into American Idol last night to even begin watching it. About the only ads I ever see is when one sparks my interest and I purposely watch it, or the rare occasions when I didn't record a show, or had weather interruptions, etc. and I have to watch it on demand. I still don't bother watching those ads, although they do play.

I still don't bother watching those ads, although they do play. It differs between local stations and networks - but ultimately the networks are choosing programs based on network advertising. For that, ratings can be measured as specific as the number of people who view a commercial. So if Pepsi buys an ad from ABC that runs nationally, they can measure how many people watch that ad - not just the program that it airs in. Those ratings are shown in different ways to show time shifted viewing (DVRs). But when you are fast forwarding through commercials, you are not being counted as fully as someone who watches TV live. We all know the networks are only running the shows you love to sell advertising. The less we watch commercials, the less we mean to them. That's why networks do stunts to try to make people watch live - such as the Scandal cast live tweeting so people are more likely to watch along with them. So a person who watches a show via ad supported streaming - Hulu, crackle, ABC.com, etc - can be more valuable to a network than a person who waits 8 minutes before starting a show so they can fast forward through all the commercials. Those kinds of things do factor in, along with the cost of production, when they decide which shows to cancel. And that's why they don't raise their target demo to follow the age of actual TV viewers as more and more young peole shift away to streaming. Incidentally - the fastest growing age group for adapting to streaming right now is the 50+ crowd. So even streaming isn't just for the kids anymore!

Such good writing and acting and storylines. Agreed that they did end it well. It feels like we were just getting to know the characters, and they were just getting to know each other well. I love how Kate Littlejohn’s story ended. Wow. So good.

Oh I hope so! I did read theat WB was looking to have someone pick it up.. but I was worried about the costs being an issue and no one would. Ideal would be it staying on ABC, getting costs down, and fans supporting it so it stays a few seasons.

I started watching WC because of Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan, but it didn't really find its stride for a while. The last few episodes were terrific. I'd be really happy to see it continue. We need to find out if Edgar survived!
Kind of funny that the actress playing Tina is actually Scott Foley's wife. Edgar taking her out was awesome!
