I can't bring myself to watch The Great. My emphasis in college was Russian and Eastern European History, so I'm a stickler for accuracy. Couldn't watch that Helen Mirren HBO series about Catherine because I read a very critical article about it that was written by a Russian historian. I'm sure the Hulu series is good, but I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it. I guess I'm just a snob about certain things, but historical inaccuracies, in particular, bug me and pull me right out of what I'm watching and I can't enjoy it.
FireWoman - I think so many of us are stressed, so watching something familiar is comforting. I've been re-watching series and watching new things that are less demanding. I find I can't read anything too dense either. My brain just can't absorb it. The beginning of every episode of The Great begins with a title card & this....* An Occasionally True Story.... I think they addressed it right out of the box. It really is a good show with some wonderful performances.

If I recall, this series, is based on a play???

So, because they tell you right up front that it's historically inaccurate, that makes a difference? Like I said, I'm taking a pass. Tsarist/Imperial Russia was my focus, so I just can't watch that one. I have trouble watching productions set in Russia that are accurate historically, but are in English with the actors speaking with British accents (I want it all in Russian), so I'm definitely not watching The Great. Glad others enjoyed it, but it's not for me.

I see it as the difference between historic fiction and history. When I'm reading or watching historic fiction, I find myself at times inspired to go back and read history about the time period being portrayed to find out what really happened. I've done that A LOT watching The Crown, and I also did it after seeing Hamilton. But with historic fiction, my main priority is to be entertained.

I just nod my head, smile and keep my mouth shut. As acookertv, I too read a lot after watching shows like this and I get it.. there is not any reliable way to know what has been said in intimate convos... there needs to be an element of artistic license too.. I like to be entertained but I also respect your reverence for the time and subject matter and understand why you would take a pass

The parts after that have less immediacy, but it's a rare thing to read a biography like that where you actually have the words of the person and their inner thoughts. Like I said, I couldn't even watch the Helen Mirren Catherine series and I pretty much worship HM. Catherine is just a major person for me.
Right now, I'm starting season 3 of Skin Wars. In both seasons 1 and 2 there was a contestant that was just so irritating to me that I almost had to mute them every time they spoke. Fingers crossed that season 3 is missing that "character." I will probably never need to see anything about body painting ever again after this

Today, SYFY is running a marathon of the last All-Stars season of Face Off.Well, they halted half way through on a TBC episode of all things, so I added the SyFy channel to my Roku line-up and found all the seasons. I didn't have to jump through cable hoops or anything so I finished that season yesterday. So happy to have found another favorite in this time of stress.

Rewatching the old Rome series from HBO. So good. Also watched a bunch of the old Looney Tunes cartoons from back in the day on HBO Max this morning. Talk about nostalgia...but the episodes made in the 80's still suck.

Dang, waywyrd , now I'm thinking about re-watching Rome again! Atia truly did have some of the best lines. "A large penis is always welcome."
I just finished the new season of Queer Eye. A nice antidote to all the stressful stuff going on in the world.
I'm partway through season 4 of Alias and remembering how the show sort of petered out and limped across the finish line. Not sure if I'll get through all five seasons or not. I think that, the last time I binged the show, I got up to the season 3 episode where Sydney pulled Will out of WITSEC to go on a mission with her and then I stopped. It was such a fun episode. That may have been a better plan than watching the whole series again Now it's all long lost half sisters and evil twins

Just finished zooming through season 1 and 2 of Dead to Me. Oh my gosh I loved it more and more the more I watched. Very clever, unexpected, twisty turns. Christina Applegate is fantastic. Some really good acting from many in this show. Bring on season 3!

I watched the first season of Love, Victor on Hulu. SO GOOD. It's a continuation of Love, Simon, including voice overs from Nick Robinson, who played Simon in the movie. The premise is that Victor, a teenage boy uncertain about his sexuality, moves to the same town and goes to the same h.s. Simon attended and two strike up a text/DM friendship. I thought it was really sweet, just like the movie. I hope Hulu gives it a second season.
I finally finished Alias, which was a bit of a slog at the end. I love Jennifer Garner, but I was a kind of sick of her by the end! Now I'm slowly making my way through Fringe on Amazon. It's intense, so I'm only doing an episode or two a day.

I watched Northern Exposure for a couple of days. (Ripped from my DVDs, I don't think it's streaming anywhere.) Still just as great as when I first watched.

The flashback scenes to the concentration camps were brutal and hard to watch, but so fascinating at the same time. It took a while to get through the whole season

It’s via IMDbTV, which means there are commercials, although not as many as on broadcast tv. I’d rather deal with a few commercial breaks than pay to watch the series. Do you have Netflix? Dexter is free there.

Wow!!! I didn't know Dexter was on Netflix - just Amazon. Thanks. I'll look for IMDbTV on my roku device.
Oh, dear...IMDbTV is not on roku and while Fringe is on five channels it is a buy at $1.99 per episode.

No, IMDbTV isn't its own channel on Roku. You have to access it though Prime Video. Sort of how you can watch other content on Amazon that is through streaming platforms like CBS All Access and Acorn TV.
Just search for Fringe on the Prime Video platform and you'll find it Definitely free or I wouldn't be watching. There's too much free content on the streaming services I have for me to pay for anything else. You may have to sign up for a IMDbTV account - there's a button that says something like, "Free with your IMDbTV subscription - but I honestly don't remember doing that. I know I definitely didn't pay for it.
The Roku app is great for finding out where to watch certain shows/movies. The only platform they don't seem to list on the View Options list is Netflix, so you have to search that separately.

Found it. Looks like the first seasons of both Dexter and Fringe are free with ads...have you gone beyond season 1? After I finish Hunters, I'll go back to Dexter.
ETA: The only Dexter I found on Netflix that had a one name title is about a jekyl and hyde type serial killer...but, Dexter (the paranormal magician) is on Amazon and IMDbTV.

I'm still on season 1, but in the search results, each season is shown as free with ads. I think I did check before adding the first season to my watch list because I didn't want to get hooked only to find that I would have to pay to watch the rest of the series.
You can watch Dexter without ads on Netflix - it's the first result when you search for "Dexter." I'll deal with ads if that's the only way I can watch, but if I can avoid them, I will!

Oh, dear...I was meaning The Dresden Files, not Dexter. My fault. There is one season on IMDb, and it is free with ads.
ETA: I decided to watch season 2 of The Order on Netlix instead. I found Hunters on Amazon to be entangled trying to justify present actions with a replay of the past. It is marked R for language, violence and (in an early episode) nudity. Believe me, who knew the F word was so prominent in the 70's. For all that, though, it is intriguing.

Currently watching the Watchmen series. It is available for free right now via HBO and/or your local cable provider. Excellent show! IMO, Episode 8 is one of the best hours of television ever produced. I'll understand if Damon Lindelof doesn't want to do a second season, but I still wish he would. I really do need to re-watch that show with zero distractions. It was SO good.
I took a break from Fringe to rewatch early seasons of Fear the Walking Dead. I've been working on my genealogy while watching TV, so I didn't want to have Fringe on and miss something. I don't know that I'll get past season 3 of FTWD, but the early seasons were pretty good.

I went old school this past week and finally watched Turn:Washington's Spies. I wanted to watch when it was airing on AMC but never got around to it. I was shocked, and a bit disappointed in myself, to see how much about that war and time period I just did not know or forgot. I am not even talking about what was or was not historically accurate or not, but dates/places/players/events that meant something. I did enjoy it overall. Then I noted (about halfway through the 3rd season's viewing) that The Order was back.. and now am watching that.

I'm watching Padma from Top Chef's new show "Taste the Nation" on Hulu where she explores culture through food. She's very thoughtful, the locations aren't the usual suspects, and overall it's a great show.

It was a clever continuation of the movie with new characters (and some old) and I was totally sucked in. The 10 episodes went by really, really quickly but they packed a lot of stories into it. And the cliffhanger was done really well. I can't imagine they won't do another season. And the great thing is, the way the show's universe is written, they could make it a franchise with any number of main characters, "Love, ______", with male or female main characters. I guess the original Simon would have a lot of voiceover/narration work for years to come.
