I watch because I am interested in the psychology of it.
The mother who had garbage and used insulin needles laying around---too lazy to take out the garbage, prefers to live in it with the roaches....ultra cruel to her children....no kind of mother.

I didn't see the episode, but please keep in mind that most people who do this level of hoarding also have some form of mental illness, and the hoarding, meanness, living with roaches, etc are all symptoms of a much bigger problem.

In 99% of cases, I would agree with you. But in this specific episode, the "mother" was a lazy, entitled hypochondriac who used her illnesses (I think she said, "I have 21 illnesses") as a tool of manipulation. She was "offended" because she recognized that the psychologist had her figured out, and went out to sit in her car JUST to get away from the psychologist. When anyone tried to talk to her about the mess, she swears it's because the kids didn't take out the trash. MOUNDS of trash, used sanitary napkins, hypodermic needles, empty soda bottles and food containers . . . but none of it her fault. The only thing in the house that wasn't covered with roaches was her ziplock bag of pill containers. Pretty much showed what was important to her. She was much nicer at the end of the show, because she got what she wanted. Her house was cleaned up with no effort from her.

I'd read earlier this year that they were casting for a new season, but I can't find much info about when that might air. I hope they do some more, I'm obsessed with this show. It makes me want to clean everything.

I have no respect for men who would allow their children to live in a toxic environment like that.

Me too--more interested in cleaning things
She simply would not take out the trash. There is no sentiment she could have assigned to the garbage....almost the worst I can remember

He was still in the kids' lives, but left a LOT to be desired as well. He left because of the hoarding, but lived nearby. He allowed ex-wife to keep custody of the kids so that it wouldn't affect her income. In other words, he was allowing his kids to live in filth so that they could get more welfare/benefits. I guess it never crossed his mind to take the kids with him, and he could either support them himself or he could file for benefits. Easier to just live the single life and close his eyes to what he was doing to them. There were no adults in that family who cared about anything but themselves.

Those poor babies.

I like this show because I want to clean and organize it. Like, in my spare time. I might have a different kind of disorder.
I'm watching the episode where the lady has ruined the historic mansion with her hoarding (she's an interior designer) and I just want to have a huge garage sale and clean and organize and then have tea.
