Call the Midwife is airing in the UK right now, and fans are becoming annoyed by the same thing that as bothered me for the past year on Call the Midwife. Social distancing. I get it, everyone on the set is precious and I approve of the distancing, but it IS obvious and awkward to watch. If you want to see a sneak peak of the new season, there is a clip you can click on in the article. Call the Midwife: viewers all have same complaint

I am loving Tristan so much this season! His quips, timely “looks” and wit are so perfect. I enjoyed him in The Durrells, but Callum Woodhouse’s performance in All Creatures is so much more entertaining. All of the actors give the very best performances, I love each of them, but I am starting to favor Tristan.
I have to confess that I love Tristan more than James. James is so serious and sweet and earnest. That's wonderful, but I can relate much more to Tristan. That whole mess with trying to swap out the dead budgie, I could totally see myself doing that. Or telling Helen, "Oh yeah, James wants to talk to you." Love it! Tristan wants to do the right thing, he's just so used to having Siegfried push him around. He just needs space to get out from his brother's shadow.

As the episodes advance there is a wonderful connection between the brothers which plays out. Their interactions are so enjoyable and so perfectly timed, it's as if it you are really present, and not watching a performance. This cast is just so good!!! I have watched the entire second season twice and each Sunday, I watch the current episode too. I look forward each week to watching the new episode. I want season three NOW!

Masterpiece enjoys giving us 'behind the scenes' info. This one on All Creatures surprised me enough for me to share it. “The practicalities of how we film these things is mind-blowing. To do the calf birth in Season 1, Episode 1, we needed to have three cows that were pregnant, that were all matched. We then had to have a cow that wasn’t pregnant, that we trained to stay laying down. We had a prosthetic cow as well, to do the actual bits where James is going in to pull it out. So we had these three pregnant cows that we set up a studio with, so when they gave birth, we would be there to capture the actual live calf coming out and being born—which we then had to match in with these other cows, both the trained one and the prosthetic one, with those other filming days with James, which were done completely differently. The composition of that shot doesn’t seem like a big special effects piece, doesn’t feel like it should cost loads and loads of money. But to do all of that, to buy the three cows, it ends up being a huge number. You write in a script little more than, ‘James delivers the calf,’ and you don’t quite realize the repercussions. That’s true of all our other births, as well. " Fascinating Facts about All Creatures Great and Small

I was surprised when the article mentioned that when it was Tristan’s turn to attend a live birth….the animal urinated and pooped on him. Acting can be a challenge. They have renewed for Seasons three and four. Season three will air in UK in early fall of 2022, so I guess we will get it at around same time as we did Season two.

Last night the clock fixer was back, and helped Mrs Hall with the cricket scores( I had to explain the rules to my dh) we played in our backyard, and my uncle played for county. I'd love to see Tricki's puppies..

Wasn't it a lovely ending to last nights show, with Tricki running to his love, and she to him? Have no idea what that litter would look like, but it was a sweet episode. I also loved that James knew he had Helen's heart and willingly gave the victory to Hugh. Tristan knew he threw it, and Helen knew it. (I even think that Hugh knew it!)

Wow! The actress who plays Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) is 86 years old!!! I adore her!!!!! She recently said in the interview below: Judy has previously admitted her character's popularity baffles her, and in an interview last year she even declared: "I'm surprised they haven't killed Sister Monica Joan off." But Judy revealed she has no intention of abandoning the much-loved character, when she later added: "As long as I can walk a straight line and remember my words, I'll be there." Call The Midwife’s Judy Parfitt brunette bombshell look in throwback snap from the 60s

I'm obsessed with the storyline of Mrs. Hall and her clock man. She deserves some happiness of her own.

Season finale of All Creatures...gave me all the feels last night.
-James being so caring with the suffering ewe - Tricky being near death and then his miraculous recovery - Mrs. Hall looking so stunning in her party dress and Siegfried getting all flustered when he saw her - Mrs. Hall kissing clock guy on the cheek - Tristan passing his exams - Tristan expressing to Siegfried how much he appreciates his big brother and all he has done for him - James idea to bring the Christmas lunch and everyone to Mrs. Pumphrey - James phone call to his parents
I was a blubbering mess by the end.

Tricky Woo is played by Derek, and is apparently quite the Diva, but loved by all the cast.

Yes, Derek is amazing, always performing on cue. I loved that little sweetheart. I don't know why, but they seem to have edited out the part where Siegfried says Tristan passed with distinguished honors. I've watched that several times on PBS Passport and was looking forward to that scene. Maybe it was just my local PBS that edited it out. You see him reading the paper. Around the World turned out to be much more exciting, and fun than I thought it would be; and I am pleased to report there will be a Season 2 for Phineas Fogg, Abigail Fix and Passepartout. They are tossing around ideas, but it seems that Jules Verne also wrote a series of "Extraordinary Adventures". The writer is thinking of maybe using some of those for inspiration or it might entirely different. "Around the World in 80 Days" co-creator on the twist ending, David Tennant and where to go next

Even though it’s still a month away, just a reminder that we have Call the Midwife new season premiere 8/7pm Sunday March 20, 2022. Also, a New Season of Sanditon will follow at 9/8 ( I haven’t decided whether to watch it because I was so disappointed over the way Season 1 ended. )

Watching David Tennet's Around the World in 80 Days. I am fast forwarding a lot.
Recently in films and series there has been and explosion of putting the right actor regardless of skin color into a part. The only problem with diversity casting is in historical pieces were there are very rigid class and caste systems in place and no one would think to cross those lines. Yet we have a young English lady obviously raised in as a privileged wealthy young lady who would never contemplate having a romance with a servant, a Frenchman, of color. It just wasn't done and if it was there were very dire consequences. Please don't whitewash history. History is the story of us; Humans behave very badly at times. Learn from it don't act as if it never happened.

Good point, bearcatta. But they did it in Dontown Abbey. Just sayin. And I'm open to learning that what may be considered unbreakable mores in our view so far along down the road in history, may have been less set in stone at those times and in another culture. We here look through a looking glass of endemic racism in this country because of our slavery history. So, we really don't know what was possible in another country, with a different history, many years ago. Likely the Brit writers know a lot more that was possible there in those times. Don't let it bother you. Trust the quality and verisimilitude of their wonderful writing and storytelling. And I'm grateful for every talented actor of any colour or class who shows up to entertain me!

While slavery as we know it disappeared around 1800 in Britain it was still very much an issue in the colonies of the British Empire. While many current tv shows paint this La La Land of everyone is friends and equal and we only want the best for everyone that is not very realistic. Many cultures can have built in racism. Many Asian countries are very monogenic and very prejudiced against any kind of race mixing. What I don't like watching this series is this very heavy handed writing regarding the issues especially the way they had the KKK leader all of a sudden tremble because another white man might kill him like a bully confronted by someone who is standing up to him. Bullies don't fold they just hit you. Another PBS series that handles this much better was Vienna Blood.

Around the World in 80 Days - finale
The premise was a wager to go around the world in 80 days. Mr. Fogg is betting his entire fortune of 20,000 pounds on this venture. So at the end of this series, having proof that Bellamy had tried to kill him, not once but at least twice Fogg gives Bellamy a check for 20,000 pounds. Can anyone not express how stupid an ending this is.

Well, it’s all fiction, and sometimes we just suspend belief. But, I think he said nearly his entire fortune. I always found it amusing that they always had lovely clothes to wear when it counted, even though their baggage was so small. I guess since there is a season 2 in the works right now…somehow he will be financed.

Last night the clock fixer was back, and helped Mrs Hall with the cricket scores( I had to explain the rules to my dh) we played in our backyard, and my uncle played for county. I'd love to see Tricki's puppies.. My own DH just happens to be from York, the nearest city to Thirsk, which was James Herriot's real home! We lived there several years ago, and Hubby actually took me to see the Herriot museum there in Thirsk. Oh my, the show doesn't really convey all of the work that Mrs. Hall did. The museum is basically Herriot's home set up the way it was back then. The kitchen is huge. It had a coal-burning stove on one end. On the other it had a washtub with a wringer over it. I remember Hubby saying his grandmother's house was basically set up like that. I love watching history shows, but I ain't gonna live back then. Since Hubby is from North Yorkshire, he loved this episode. He said it was very historically accurate. Cricket was huge back then. Teams were tied to counties, not cities, and Yorkshire's team was considered the best. "They were kind of the New York Yankees of cricket." So when Mrs. Hall and the others show their devotion and can't understand why anyone wouldn't love cricket, it very much reflects the time and place. It's interesting, because in the book, Herriot says that most of what they did was not much better than the folk remedies the farmers advocated. Modern veterinary medicine (like with humans) didn't really come along until after WWII, when they developed antibiotics. Until then, you just did what you could and prayed. I thought about that and smiled when, in the Christmas episode, James and the others were earnestly saying, "Have you tried...?" Man, I bet they were praying! I loved the Christmas episode, except for that small bit at the very end with the plane. I mean, good grief. Why didn't they just put up a big title card? "WWII is going to start in another 9 months!" Despite that, I did feel very sad. I'll bet in subsequent years that generation looked back and said, " Do you remember the last Christmas before the War?" I told Hubby that our generation is kind of like that. I can still remember December of 2019 so vividly. . .
