per Google:
This is a strange movie that has some good parts. The set of the El Royale is fabulous. The individual characters are beautifully played with supporting characters moving in and out of being leads. Nothing is what it seems at the El Royale. However, the pacing is a bit slow, and that throws the entires film off. This could have been an absolutely fabulous film but it didn't quite make it.
The character of Darlene Sweet is very developed and deep. Individual scenes are fantastic, but you do wonder where they are going. Many of the characters really had a depth and pragmatism about them that you got and made them very real.
This film's motto should be things are not what they always seem to be, and it does not always pay to be a good Samaritan.

I just saw this last night! I have to agree that the pacing was too slow to be enjoyable. It also got confusing when they showed scenes over again from a different character's perspective.
I thought it was going to be better than it was because of the cast involved but it was just kind of weird and disjointed. Still, I've seen a lot worse movies this year and I enjoyed parts of it so it was worth seeing once.

I just watched this tonight because it's leaving HBO and really enjoyed it. Pretty much all the actors gave standout performances and I especially enjoyed Chris Evans playing a bad guy for once. The setting was absolutely gorgeous, but then again I love old retro motels; was it an actual location, or a set? Overall, definitely a flick to catch on HBO before it leaves at the end of the month.
