What Do You Care About? - The designers use their skills to bring attention to a social cause they care about deeply. Judge Elaine Welteroth mentors each designer on channeling their creative voice for change. Just as they get comfortable, they're hit with a fashion sale twist.
Enjoy the show!

That was a good show tonight. Bishme won and I think his win was well deserved. He made a beautiful dress that fit the theme perfectly. I've been rooting for him all season. He was born and raised in a very tough part of a very dangerous city. I know, because I live less than than 30 minutes from there. Also, he is self-taught. He never attended a design school. It's hard to imagine how such a sweet, gentle guy with so much talent managed to resist the gangs and violence that plague his neighborhood.

I know many will hate hearing this, but personally, I am so sick and tired of everyone's "causes". It is all you read about in the paper, and hear in the news. We all have problems, backgrounds, have been bullied or picked on for one reason or another. We used to understand it was just a part of life, but now, the constant whining over the same subjects........ ugh. There are people who will always be bigots or racists or chauvinists, or feminists, or people who hate gays or trans. You wont change them; it is a part of life. So, that being said, I was rooting for Garo and his cause (he is right; bees are very important, and they are declining in number. I have many bee-keeping friends, and they tell me it is already affecting our food supply, and bees are part of a healthy environment for ALL of us), and Bishme and his cause (loved that he is a mentor to young kids.... all kids of all colors, genders and backgrounds.)
Bishme deserved to win. His dress was really pretty, and got his message across. Really liked his t-shirt too! Again, refreshing that he wants to help all kids, and wants to support his home town of Baltimore. Never once did he mention race, gender, or sexual orientation.
I will say, Sebastian made a lovely dress as well, and I love the way he created the "tones". His construction is impeccable.
And once again, the judges loved Hester. How that get-up she designed celebrated being "gay" is beyond me. Nina said she recognized the cause the minute the outfit walked out? Really? Why? Just looked like yet another childish outfit that Hester (and no one else) would want to wear. They accuse Garo of being too "costumey" and I agree, but Hester's looks also seem so deliberately kooky and forced. Everything looks the same. I am expecting one of her models to come out wearing the "cutie pie" hat. The judges will swoon.
So that is my take. Glad Garo is still in, but I do hope he can come up with some new ideas without a corset!

But the judges completely ignore the fact that only a circus clown (or someone who wants to join the circus) would wear Hester's outfits. They always say "There's Garo's outfit!" when the corseted model walks out. Well, you can always tell when Hester's model comes out, too. What does it say that the two designers who are "out there" with their flamboyant designs are the only ones with a signature style? Is that a good thing or not?

Rainbow Brite....
It was JUST Rainbow Brite....
Sebastian was robbed. The technique was unlike anything done on the show.

I loved Sebastian's dress---- as I have most of the things he has done. I thought for sure that Garo would be sent home because his cause was not as personal as the others so the judges would have not offended anyone plus the dress was nowhere near as spectacular as he could have made it.

I didn't understand how Jamall's dress related to his cause.
I liked Sebastian's look for his interpretation of racial equality. Other than that, I'm not a big fan of a lot of extra flowing fabric. Still, I would have been okay if Sebastian had won because he truly embraced the challenge.
I agree with Bishme getting the win. That dress was beautiful, and the sparkly outline of the faces with the lashes was extra cool. I love that shade of purple. I wonder if Bishme chose the color as an homage to the Baltimore Ravens, or if that was purely coincidental. Either way, it worked.

I find myself rooting against Hester. She wasn't the worse design this week, but I don't think a finalist runway show from her would appeal to many in the audience. The judges have let Garo get away with his signature style all season long. They've even rewarded him for it. Now they express frustration? I didn't really like the guest judge. I can't put my finger on it, but I just didn't like her.

Not a lot of people liked the judge on the twitter either, especially when she critiqued Tessa's. I loved this theme and of course, got emotional.
I really like Hester, I love her sense of fun, her odd patterns and sense of humor. I love bright colors. I know I'm in the minority.
Glad Sir Bish won. I have such a fondness for Baltimore since I went to college there and that city is an experience! Quirky, artsy and then it seemed like living in a war zone with gunshots and helicopters.
I also loved Jamal's and Sebastian's. Garo was way too literal.

I'm glad Bishme won. I loved his dress and his t-shirt. He's very good at branding. His dress was beautiful and feminine, but his t-shirt had the same face on it and looked cool. Very well done. I also liked both of Sebastian's and would not have hated if he won either.
Garo better thank Venny because I think if Venny had finished his look then Garo would have been sent home instead.
I also don't understand their love of Hester's stuff. They keep complaining about Garo designing costumes but generally I'd rather wear what he made than what Hester made.

Not my favorite challenge and clearly didn't work out for production, either, for which was it, Tessa or Hester's look, that caused the judges to decide, after the tears, not to include in the bottom 3?
Then, to call out Garo for his corset dress for being too costume, when nearly every other look on stage also crossed that line? And, what wasn't redundant about what Hester created (again)?

That's what I was talking to my daughter about. I noticed there were only 2 in the bottom, which is highly unusual at this point. I wonder if the guest judge gave Tessa a super low score and then regretted it after she heard her story. She came down pretty hard on Tessa at first.

It seemed as if production may have had a hand in the guest judge questioning Tessa's inspiration for the dress. To me it looked like really bad acting when she asked Tessa to explain it and had a look of mock confusion on her face. The dress was essentially a naked woman's body and 'mine' cut out of the fabric. It wasn't exactly hard to figure it out.

I just find Hester annoying and too cutesie if that makes sense. I didn't like her design this week either. I preferred Sebastian's dress to Bishme's buy far but was OK with his win. I actually really liked jamall's dress - I think this was the first time I liked his work!

I think there is a market for Hesters' style among the young and/or artsy group. I just don't think it belongs on a show that is (supposedly) featuring high fashion. Some of her work is fun and quirky..but high fashion?? Nope!
I liked Sebastions' dress as it came down the runway but when they showed the closeup...not so much.

On another note - I get how a cause, a belief, a personal story can and should impact your creative juices. But somehow the juxtaposition of "causes" and high fashion - money, power, privilege, vanity, exclusivity, and everyday issues like poverty, hunger, sexual abuse - seemed odd and off to me as they critiqued the designs.

I actually really liked jamall's dress - I think this was the first time I liked his work! It makes perfect sense, because that's exactly how I feel. The only people I can see wanting to wear her stuff are tweens or people who think they're the next Lady Gaga. You can maybe call it campy but I would not call it fashion. I loved Sebastien's dress because it was both elegant and subtle. Most people would have used a rainbow of colors to represent different skin tones or world flags. I thought it was inspired to only use different shades of one color. Jamall's dress was lovely. If the challenge had been only to design a dress I would have put him in the top. However, his dress had no connection to his cause. "My royal story"? That and the dress remind of Disney princesses. Agree with all the criticism of the clueless judge. Tessa probably had the most obvious cause up there. I mean, seriously. How much imagination does it take to link a woman's body and "mine" with women's bodily autonomy? Because of that strong link, and because I liked the stylized picture on the dress as much as Bishme's, I would have also put her in the top.
