I don't know if there is a thread for TLC specifically but last night I saw a special program called "JFK, Jr and Carolyn's Wedding: The Lost Tapes." I stumbled upon it just as it was airing at midnight so I quickly hit record just in case I fell asleep. It was a 2 hour special of the events leading up to and the wedding ceremony and reception itself of John and Carolyn. John had a dear friend whom he had given a video recorder to when the friend married and John asked his friend to bring the recorder along to document the wedding weekend. It started with the election of JFK and the birth just a few short weeks after of John Jr. They talked briefly about his life after his dad was assassinated and what he was like as a teenager. He was at one time deemed the sexiest man alive but nearing his mid-30s longed to settle down. He met Carolyn and fell in love. He wanted to give her a wedding that was private b/c the paparazzi were always around. He chose a very private location and gave invites to only those closest to him. He chose one cousin from each of his mom's and dad's side to represent: Anthony Radziwill represented his mom's sister Lee, cousin Tim Shriver represented aunt Eunice, one of the Lawford sons represented aunt Patricia and of course his Uncle Ted Kennedy was there with his wife. I don't want to go into details about how John Jr was able to pull it off but it really was quite extraordinary. The only negative of the program was that I've gotten so used to recording and zipping through the commercials, that it was difficult to sit through the full 2 hours, especially so late at night. I did record it but was able to stay awake. Tuesday marks the 20th anniversary of John, Carolyn and s.i.l. Lauren perishing in the plane crash so the program was very timely. One final note: Gosh, I'd forgotten how GORGEOUS that man was.

One final note: Gosh, I'd forgotten how GORGEOUS that man was. Thanks for the info. It appears there are a few more showings this week. I watched a special about him they other day and they briefly went into how he managed to keep the wedding a secret.

I watched it on Saturday evening, and had very mixed feelings on the whole thing, as I do many retrospectives on their lives. It was fascinating to see the wedding video, and to hear some of the inside stories - the cards distributed to each guest to ensure no one snuck on the property, the helicopter that they dodged, that the chef had no clue who he was cooking for until he was there, etc. While I really do appreciate the friends of his who share these stories, every time I listen to them (and I will admit that i don't feel strongly enough about this to boycott the shows!) I can't help but feel that the friends are betraying him a bit by sharing these details and in this case the video. I'd feel differently if Caroline Kennedy participated as I feel like she's the one who can speak on behalf of him now. As much as I loved seeing them in private and not on guard of prying eyes, I also wondered how much the friend made for selling the video.

I am not much of a Kennedy fan and really don't understand the fascination, I feel sorry for John Jr as there was so much pressure on him to replicate what his father had done, accomplished, made the nation feel and it must have been pretty unbearable. If John Jr had been alive there would have been so many comparisons between him and his dad especially if John Jr had gone into politics and I don't think he really wanted to do that.

It was nice that John Jr. wanted to settle down and leave his player lifestyle behind. His dad never seemed to want to do that.

Well, John Sr grew up with his dad, his uncles and his brothers all having the lifestyle. From my understanding they women who where family were loved and respected, all the others were for play. The family charisma, and wealth, and politics, I am sure helped, and there were of course women who wanted to land a rich husband or sugar daddy. The perfect storm.

I watched this on and off the other night. I love weddings, so I will watch anything wedding related - - I was irritated that Caroline made her guests wait 2 hours due to a "wardrobe malfunction" - the reason being that she had trouble getting the dress on the day of the wedding. I side eyed that reason. - The video person said John was naturally absent minded. the video person said John forget his blazer at the video person's wedding, they quickly showed a clip of John entering the church of the video person. I think that is my church at the Cape. - I'm glad I got to see them at their happiest. I remember the day their plane went missing. I was at the Cape with my mom. At first, we thought his aircraft was just delayed, but as the day progressed, we realized the search teams were looking for a crash site.

Just finished watching. I loved the singer, David. He was funny talking about telling "her" no, he wasn't going to sing, he just played the piano for other singers. (my guess is it was John's secretary because on another special she was talking about being one of the very few privy to details and arrangements).
I liked what the guy, who recorded the video, said at the end of the show, which I think is his purpose for sharing the video. "Nothing we do is going to bring them back, but I would like for the memory to be positive."
