Live and Let Tie Dye - The designers will need to create their own textiles to elevate the tie dye trend from casual to couture in an overnight challenge. The designers go a bit mad working into the wee hours trying to complete their high end looks.
Enjoy the show!

I have been a fan of Geoffrey's... both his designs (usually but not always) and his attitude with humor (always), so I was glad he won tonight. And I think it was deserved. His dress was the most elegant, and that color looked stunning on his model. Loved the bright orange trim. Who knew tie-dye could be so elegant and modern looking?
I try not to let my opinions of Sergio personally affect my thoughts of his clothes. Tonight's dress was well made for sure. The judges liked the very lite used of tie-dye, but that is ok. His skirt was intricate; difficult to make. A "sweet" dress but it seemed very dated. It reminded me of an old fashioned "garden dress", or something a 50s housewife would wear. Nice, pretty, beautifully made, but I was surprised the judges iked it as much as they did. Nancy's was very nice for tie-dye. She did the best job with the dying. Perhaps if she would not have done these pants so often in this competition, they would have judged her higher. THIS time, the pants looked great. Too bad she didn't made a top (she just draped a piece of fabric around her model....)
Tonight confirmed that sometimes the judges will hang on to a designer because they want to see what that designer would do in the final. The judges even said this, and I believe that is why Delvin went out over Victoria. Delvin's dress was at least somewhat wearable. Victoria's outfit was awful. The top looked like a peasant blouse with a cape. The jeans, diaper and all, looked like she just wiped the paint from her hands off on them. This made no sense whatsoever. BUT.... when trying to decide who to let go, Nina said, "It comes down to.... who would we like to see a collection from in the final?" THAT was when I knew Delvin would be out.
Everyone else was fine. Just fine. The tie-dying looked like fun. I want to try it! On to next week.

I don't get their obsession with keeping Victoria no matter how spectacularly she fails AND how many excuses and bits of attitude she throws at them. They have sent other designers home for way less. If she doesn't do the challenges, she doesn't belong there. Otherwise, don't bother having a full season of challenges -- just have a 2-part Fashion Week special with judge favorites Sergio, Victoria and Brittany -- all of whom are living on borrowed time, but they all should have gone at some point (or points) in the season. Don't lead the other designers on, letting them think they ever had a chance. Urrgh.

The judges specifically said that they liked the 1950s lines to the dress, and I've seen a few dresses with that type of skirt in pictures of fashionable New York women.

With the edit Sergio was getting, including clips of him talking about how he was struggling, having his call home, etc I got my hopes up that this would be his week to go. While his dress was incredibly well constructed it kept annoying me that the tie dye was such a tiny part of the design. Delvin and Victoria got in trouble in part because they weren't happy with how the tie dye first turned out so they redid it. If only they'd known they could skate through with tie dye that was barely visible. During the judging, even when it was clear that Sergio was one of the top designs, I kept fantasizing that they'd speak up and say "Upon further review we realized you didn't embrace the challenge so you have to go home ... oh and Victoria since you didn't embrace several challenges in the past you go home too!"

At least Sergio finally earned to keep his mouth shut---that his political views were winning him no friends. However, in hearing him talk to his partner, it was scary that the two of them have such plans for world domination. Talk about megalomania.

But it was easy to understand how he gets such delusions of grandeur! I think a person is better off having a partner who is comfortable knowing when to give a little tough love.

I really liked this challenge and was glad that most of the contestants had fun with it.
Loved Leslie as a judge. She really enjoyed the experience and had kind things to say about almost everyone. I laughed at this exchange:
L: Maybe you should had made a dress like Marquise did... V: I didn't want to make a dress! L: But you see how Marquise is safe though!
I'm getting to the point that I deeply dislike Brittany and wish she hadn't been saved even though I liked her dress last night. She can't seem to shut her mouth and constantly criticizes the others and it's not a good look. Girl, be glad you're safe. Sit down and shut up.
Loved Nancy and Geoffrey's looks and liked the craftmanship on Sergio's even though you could barely see the tie-dye on his. Nancy's pattern was very nice and she should have been in contention for winning and not Sergio.
Victoria made trash last night but I have to admit I'm more interested in what she would bring to a runway show than Delvin at this point, and he had a really promising start. He let fear get to him and I feel really badly for him.

I agree with you on Brittany. It seems like her insults of other people are a sign of insecurity - she doesn't think her designs are good enough so if she tears apart other people she'll feel better about her designs. Also agree with you about Leslie as a judge. I love her passion over the tv shows she watches. If you have not watched some of the videos she tweets when she's watching, it's well worth checking out her twitter feed. After she watches Below Deck, I set aside time to watch all the videos. She's brilliant!

Kao, I loved that exchange, too! I think one of the judges actually said that they thought Marquise's dress was Victoria's, and she took offense, which is why I especially loved the way Leslie burned her. I giggled over that comment for quite awhile.

Being hilarious helped, too. I agree with you on Brittany. It seems like her insults of other people are a sign of insecurity - she doesn't think her designs are good enough so if she tears apart other people she'll feel better about her designs. It really bugged me that one week after being saved by Christian, she was back on the Catty Couch dissing the other designers from the lounge. She learned nothing.

What do they have against Nancy? It seems more personal than just not liking her designs.
For as big as a jerk as Sergio seems he's been nice and not disparaging to her.
I really loved Geoffrey's dress. It was really beautiful. Sergio's silhouette seemed dated to me, but maybe it's having a resurgence? I have a feeling his tie dye pattern looked better in person than on the screen. When she held the skirt out, more of it showed. I liked Nancy's pattern too. Not a huge fan of her pants, but they do move well.

I’m really happy for Geoffrey and Nancy. They are a pleasure to watch.
I’m completely over Brittany and her Nancy-bashing. She is looking soooooo ugly on the inside.

If Geoffrey hadn't won this, I would have claimed it was rigged. His dress was just incredible--well designed, well made and the tie dye was impeccable. My sad moment was the Delvin was sent home over Victoria. She has regressed in the past few weeks and gotten the benefit of the doubt for the past few weeks.

Maybe I'm just not a very nice person, but I don't get why the other designers keep helping Victoria, either by convincing her not to give up or by handing over additional fabric to her when she screws up the fabric she has. Or perhaps I'm just tired of the judges saving her over someone else two weeks in a row largely, it appears, because of the work she's done earlier in the competition. At what point does she have to pay for screwing up? Or just choosing not to follow the directions for the particular competition?
On the other hand, I loved Leslie Jones as a judge. I don't care whether she knows about fashion or not. She made the judging much more fun.

1. Ageism--what can an old woman know about youth-worshipping, hip fashion?
2. Confidence. She spent 30 years in the corporate world, so I'm sure she saw a lot of office politics. She probably also endured her share of sexism. I think she also mentioned raising her kids as a single mother. She's as tough of nails and doesn't give a crap about all the cattiness among the other designers. She just focuses on her vision and producing it. And she doesn't have their insecurities because of her life experience.
Delvyn should have stayed. At least his outfit was wearable. I laughed at all those critiques of her. "Is that a superhero's cape? Like a baby threw up on those pants. Yeah, but Marquise is safe." Once again, a guest judge nailed her attitude. So why are the regular judges so enamored of her?
I was so proud of all three designers in the top three. They stayed above the nastiness of the other designers and created beautiful outfits. I would have been happy with any of them winning.

Firstly, bummed out that Sergio made a nice dress, but at least he didn't win I understand why they chose Victoria over Delvin, in that Delvin hasn't been as creative overall as some of the others, including Victoria. As for Nancy, I just find her very annoying... especially how she supports Sergio's so called political statements and even his crappy designs (she fawned over that awful Sergio immigrant issues dress).

^^^ Hey! She's going through her mid-life hippie stage. I'll let her have that Happy with the top three and the win. Agree that it came down to whose collection would they rather see. LOVED Lesley Jones and her judging as if watching from home.

Mid-life? She was around in the 60's. Maybe she dressed that way the first time!
It's weird, but I actually felt a pang when Delvyn was eliminated, despite his past attitude. I think maybe it was because, unlike Victoria, he didn't run. When he was in the bottom last week, he didn't make excuses, cry, and try to run away.
And as much as I didn't like Brittany before this, I did kind of sympathize with her this time. Those dye people were giving complicated instructions, and B was the only one who took notes? I would have take notes, too, and I would have been irritated when the people who didn't bother wanted to look at my notes. I probably would have helped them like B did, but I wouldn't have been impressed.
Has Marquise participated in any nastiness? He and Geoffrey deserve to be in the finale. I love Geoffrey. He's proof that being talented doesn't have to make you a jerk. Remember how he helped Dayoung because he was genuinely concerned for her? I loved how he drew on his military heritage and reinvented it with this challenge.
Speaking of heritage, Sergio should have taken notes during the Superbowl Half-Time show. JLo and Shakira protested what's happening at the border with their performance. It was a masterful example of protest art without being clumsy, boring, and heavy-handed.

I'm so glad Geoffrey's dress won. It was beautiful, well done, and he seems like a very nice person. Sergio's dress looked to me like a snowbank that a dog got close to. Up north here, we have lots of "yellow snow" and that's what that skirt resembled! It was just too light, too spotty, and I thought for sure he'd be in the bottom for it. Yes, it must have looked better in person, because it looked so boring on screen. I loved Nancy's print! That tie dye pattern and color palette was gorgeous! I wish she'd come up with something for a top, but even so, it was better than Sergio's IMO. She should have been second. I'm glad Delvin went home; his dress was ugly and he also has shown attitude during these challenges (much like Victoria). Victoria can go next, because she's obviously way too good for these challenges (!). Brittany was smart to take notes, so I give her credit for that, and for sharing what she learned when everyone else forgot what to do. Her dress was cute, too, not like Marquise's ice skater dress. I just wish she weren't so snotty.

I thought Sergio's dress was stunning and Geoffrey's dress, beautiful as well, and the edit implies that had Nancy come up with a top, she would have won this challenge. All three looks were definitely the top looks.

And to some stuck-up designers. "But Marquise is safe." My favorite line from all the years I've watched PR. I'll think about it next time Victoria pulls one of her attitudes. That's what I loved about Leslie Jones. She may have been funny, but she was nobody's fool.
