My book collection had gotten so out of hand in the last few years that I had STACKS of them behind the furniture in the living room. Rather than try to get rid of enough books to make room on the existing shelves, I did the sensible thing ( ) and bought another bookcase! I'd estimate at least 85% of the books are galleys/advance readers from publishing reps and I'd also guess that's the same percentage of them that are unread! Now they're all right in my line of sight, so they're acting as a deterrent to buy more books AND inspiration to read more of them! Before this, they were mostly out of sight, so I forgot what was there. It feels like they're ALL new! Those are nearly three foot long shelves and the books are double shelved. It's A LOT! BTW - the top shelf has a painting, a family photograph and then maybe 6 or 7 really nice hardcovers, along with a little gargoyle statue a friend gave me many years ago.
_
I have bought a few books in the last few months. I've not completely changed my personality. My two most recent purchases were Julian Fellowes' Belgravia and Goat Song: A Seasonal Life, A Short History of Herding, and the Art of Making Cheese by Brad Kessler, which a friend read and loved. I jusstified buying them because I knew my mom would enjoy reading them too.
So what books have you bought lately?

I bought The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon. A Jamaican teen facing deportation meets a first generation Korean teenage boy on her last day in the USA.

Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it when you finish! Nicola Yoon is fast becoming a favorite author! I loved the frankness of the characters in this book. They aren’t perfect, they make mistakes, and there are both good & bad consequences. I did not see it coming that his family owned the hair care store, duh. Everyone was connected somehow, and following the threads made for a great read. Loved it, and so happy it’s part of my permanent library.

I recently purchased The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes. Previously, I've read her book Broken Monsters and enjoyed it, so I wanted to read another book of hers.

I really enjoyed the realness of the story. I also appreciated how it wasn’t a book where everything was solved by the end. That definitely contributed to it feeling so real. I am going to check out some of her other novels. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
