With the exception of a few highlights (Jeanette, Yannick) of the first look, all of these fashions were...a bunch of nothing. Everyone did so wonderfully last week with the Italian wedding, but this week was a letdown and a snooze. It was an opportunity to go wild but no one really seemed to understand that. I think a lot of the designers really weren't familar with festival wear. All the judges were angry, and Jeremy Scott was particularly pissed. Everyone put out a horrible accessible look, and the judges let them know that, and that it was unacceptable.
Sienna mentioned that her looks were based on the Chinese Lantern Festival and she didn't want to be overly sexy. Her runway look was on a male model, and I'm sorry, but there was nothing redeemable about that look, nor did it remind me of any type of Lantern Festival I've ever seen! Her accessible look had cutouts and layering on the chest that did remind me of the design on Mooncakes and was very cute but Nicole brought up the fact that you could see the model's bra and it wasn't pretty or intentional; she said it was the designer's job to make sure the undergarments go with the clothes. She ended up getting the cut (and to that I say good riddance!).
While I liked the pants for both the runway and accessible looks Curtis created there was a lot of weirdness going on with those tops. He ended up getting cut as well and gave a totally classy speech thanking both the judges and his fellow designers. It was touch and go for a minute but Yannick also lived to fight another day (hurray!).

That was brutal! Yikes! I totally agreed with the judges that most of the work sucked and was boring with the exceptions that you mentioned, Kao (and also Rafael's runway look). I don't get it. I'm 70, and I seem to know more about what festival wear consists of than these supposedly hip young people. There was so much potential and very little was delivered. I'm glad they decided to take Jeanette's runway look and build the winning collection around it. It's a beautiful look! Now off to watch episode 6. I'm hoping it's much better than this was! P.S. I do wonder why they keep giving them so little time for the assignments. The rushing shows!

Yes, them turning Jeanette's look into the accessible look was the right call.
I wish they would always give them enough time to work. Their work suffers and it doesn't increase the drama enough for what we lose from what they could have made but didn't have enough time to. Jeremy's reaction seemed a lot over the top considering all the factors. Gee, you think you might not have given them enough time if all of them only had time to have one nice garment finished? Him yelling at them was uncalled for.

I agree that Jeremy’s reaction seemed over the top. It really was a bit much, and throwing his book was so uncalled for. I felt really bad for all the designers - especially Yannik - when Jeremy flipped out. I’m sure the producers/editors thought this was great drama they could include in the episode, but it just made me think waaaaaaayyyy less of Jeremy.

The irony is they had more time to do these looks as well as seamstresses while they were working. In addition, the seamstresses also worked overnight on the items as well. The Funeral challenge only had 7 hours to complete. There was no excuse for how bad those looks were.

They did, but they only got seven hours in total to work; that was one of the main reasons why Yannick had everyone pick a machine and prepare it the night before. For this project I believe they had two days, plus the help of the seamstress ladies for the two outfits.

I agree about giving them a decent amount of time! The festival looks were pretty horrible, except for Jeanette's winning look (which was beautiful). I didn't like Raf's "top" look that the judges liked, but at least it was more in line with festival wear.
The see-through Chinese festival inspired dress was pretty, but not practical for either an accessible look or for an actual festival. Who'd want to run around in bright white flimsy fabric? It was a good concept, but she could've done it a little better.
Yannik sure is an original, but I felt bad for him when Jeremy had his fit.
And Heidi has continued to irritate me this season on here, while she rarely does on America's Got Talent. Wonder why....

Initial reaction to the runway.
Jeanette - luv the first dress, not the second - making the cut Georgia - It was OK - making the cut Yannick - they luv Yannick he leaves me confused - making the cut Raphael - liked the first look - making the cut Curtis - he's going Markantoine - he's going Sienna - she's going, the male look was horrible
Judging was brutal.
Surprised only two were cut, I would have been OK with 3. I wonder if Markantoine realizes how lucky he is?
