Coronation Day - For Coronation Day, the designers are blindly paired together and tasked with creating couture modern gowns that exemplify royalty; Wes Gordon, the Creative Director of Carolina Herrera and gown expert, serves as a guest judge.
New episodes air each Thursday night on Bravo, and are available for streaming the next day on Peacock.
Enjoy the show!

I just started! The pairings seem pretty good, actually - even though it was random, I think it's going to be fun!
Korto brought fabric from home, and it looks PERFECT for this challenge: beaded, sheer, gorgeous.
Ugh, Anna seems to be causing her partner some trouble, in the preview before commercial. Can she go home this time???
Fabio and Hester are going with grays. (!) And on my screen, they are completely different tones of gray, so I'm worried about them.

Rami dressed the Queen of Jordan! Wow!
The purple/magenta that Kayne and Viktor picked out looks a bit garish. And the corset? Ew! It might turn out, but so far it looks horrible.
Progress as of model fittings, did NOT impress me. Maybe they needed more money, more time? IDK, but there are some BAD outfits being made, it looks like.

Well, most of the teams brought it around with the final looks, along with their hair/accessories. The judges didn't hate anything, sying they just had to find bits and pieces for the bottom looks. I think the story with the winning look helped get them the win. It was pretty, a little too much for me, but I get it.
I agreed with the bottom looks! They were both disappointing gowns, for different reasons. But WOW, they sent Viktor home??? What about Anna or Brittany? He won a challenge already, and both of those women have dropped lots of stinkers. I'd think they're on their last legs, and better show some amazing designs coming up here!
Ooo, next week looks interesting! They all have to use the exact same fabric! I love that idea.

I think Anna and Brittany's error involved selecting the wrong fabric. Viktor's over-the-top embellishments contributed negatively to his and Kayne's look.

OMG Viktor gone so soon. Totally disagree with that. Granted their look was pretty much an over-the-top costume, but I thought that they were designing for entertainment/pop culture royalty....and it would fit there.
I saw that the room of designers were all amazed when it was announced at the end of the show. Anna should have been gone last week with that ugly mess she put out and I would have called her out this week too and sent her packing. I do not understand even why she was invited back and now has had two major escapes that she has not deserved.
I totally agree that Korto's look was the winner....perfect in every way. However, the other top look did not do it for me. I guess it was "modern" but long bare legs with ruffles between the spaces was bizarre. If one of the judges said that they couldn't see royalty wearing K/V's look, that certainly would be true for this look. At best, it should have switched places with Rami/Bishme's dress....that was beautiful and very original.

I also thought Viktor should have stayed and Brittany or Anna should have gone, probably Anna, who might have gone last week if Christian hadn't caught her look in time for her to completely revamp it, and even then, she did precisely what Christian said the judges didn't want to see, which was a dress made of the most conventional, fabric-like material that she could find at the toy store. I really thought Brittany and Anna's dress was more of a disaster than Viktor and Kayne's as well. I didn't like Viktor and Kayne's gown, but they pointed out that their idea of modern royalty was a pop star who might, in fact, be wearing a costume. The examples they named certainly have done so in the past. Anna and Brittany had that cockamamie story about royalty on another planet, which gave them carte blanche to claim that whatever they put together would be what the women on that planet would wear, plus they managed to pick the drabbest color they possibly could. What kind of royalty would want to fade into the background like that? At least when they removed Viktor's corset, Viktor and Kayne's gown might have had some potential, and the color was better. I would have pegged Brittany and Anna's dress as the worst of the lot and probably have sent home Anna, who doesn't seem to know what she wants to do this season anyway.
I also another one who didn't get the love for Kara and Laurence's dress. I agreed with the guest judge who didn't think the cape and the dress paired well together, and frankly, the dress just didn't strike me as anything a member of royalty would wear in public. I loved the coat and headpiece for Korto and Praje's ensemble, though unlike Nina, I didn't quite get the combination of them with the dress in terms of color (but that could be the difference between the way something looks live and the way it looks on TV, too). I didn't have a problem with them winning over Kara and Laurence, however. I do wish Hester/Fabio or Rami/Bishme had made it into the final two rather than Kara/Laurence. Rami/Bishme's dress was beautifully made and a nice mix of modern/more traditional. Hester/Fabio's gown/pant look fit their story well and was well-made. I also liked that they picked a pattern that was more masculine and then turned it into a more feminine gown over pants. Again, that fit their story for their interpretation of modern day royalty well, and I wish they would have mentioned that instead of simply saying that grey was a combination of black and white. They could have said that and mentioned mixing the more "masculine" pattern with the more "feminine" style, too, and made a stronger case for what they had done.

I don't think I've ever disagreed with the judges more than I did this week. I thought Kara and Lawrence's dress was unattractive. I thought Brittany and Anna's dress was boring and dull and one of them should have gone home. Viktor's and Kayne 's gown was very costumey but yes rock star royalty would have worn it. It was better than Brittany's and Anna's look for sure IMO.

I liked Kara and Laurence's look. I thought it was very interesting and beautiful and I enjoyed the contrast of the "hard" and "soft."
I agree that Anna should have gone home. She seems to be off her creative game this time around. Viktor and Kayne's outfit was definitely over the top, and the worst parts were on Viktor, but I don't think he should have gone home.

Agree with others. Definitely the wrong person went home. Should have been Anna or Brittany. Theirs was a rather typical princess/fairy dress in a boring colour.
I feel like I’ve seen Hester and Fabio’s before in that checked gray with those hips. In some costume drama.
Korto and Prajje’s coat was great but the dress was boring with only the added fabric providing any interest. I didn’t get the praise of the dress. And the colour of it didn’t go with the coat. But I loved the coat and the matching headpiece.
Kayne and Victor’s dress was good. Maybe better without the corset but still good with it. I liked the neckline/shoulders. Why couldn’t she have been a royal on a different planet (different from Brittany and Anna’s certainly)? I don’t see any current royal wearing Kara’s sheer dress around but yet that was praised as if it would be worn as is. The headpiece was great.
Laurence’s cape was fine. Kara’s dress looked better when she added the extra ruffles/length but the model could barely walk in it. I guess walking is not important. Maybe as a royal she’s travelling in a litter or something.
Bishme and Rami’s dress was nice but not a fan of the sheer stomach.

ccl , I liked Hester and Fabio's design, but I agree that it has been done before. It reminded me of something Kenzo would have done in the past.

I’m enjoying this season so much I’ve been watching each episode twice. I’m really enjoying the focus on craft and process this season instead of drama. I laughed when Christian came out with the crown and scepter, lol. 1k budget was really, really nice for this royalty challenge and can buy a lot of nice fabric. The end result was mostly great for everyone; there were just a few hiccups for some of the contestants.
There was a certain regality with Korto and Prajjie’s look that was wonderful to see. Korto bought an absolutely beautiful fabric from Liberia that she opted to use for this particular challenge. Getting Prajjie as her partner (who had a shared goal) really worked in their favor. I loved the combination of the dress with the coat, and the headdress was a nice touch. The model absolutely sold this look because the combination of her walk and posture—werk. Definitely a lovely take on African royalty.
Viktor and Kanye were a good match who aren’t afraid of going there for a look. I think they were designing more for Pop Star Royalty as opposed to an actual monarchy. I could see Beyonce, Lady Gaga, or someone like Rita Ora wearing their outfit with pride. Christian warned them that it was looking kinda costumey, and even Kanye was having doubts about that breastplate but I think both Kanye and Victor went a little too far in “I want to remain respectful of my partner’s contributions” when it should have been “What would be the best thing to do with the dress and the constraints of the challenge." The craftsmanship was impeccable, and I loved the breastplate. I think their problem was they went too far in the costume direction, and it ended up biting their team in the end.
I really enjoyed Hester and Fabio’s journey to produce a look that people not interested in a more traditional profile would like, and I thought it was fantastic. I agreed with Christian that the gray side of the fabric was richer and more regal. I absolutely loved the top and back of their outfit (the straps in the back was fabulous). Designing it as a three piece collection was a really good idea and was a nice respite from all the dresses being displayed. I would wear this; it was wonderful and should have placed higher, IMO.
Rami and Bishme: it fit beautifully, and gave “royalty” without screaming it. I loved the beading on the dress, the fabric draped over one shoulder, and the sheer fabric over the belly was elegance instead of tacky. This team is a good example of two minds meshing together to do something lovely. It was a very classical, yet updated look.
Going into a more European Royalty direction was a good choice as Laurent is French and Kara Saun was born in Germany, and while we’re used to British royalty fashion there’s a lot of other European royalty families whose taste is on the avant garde side; I saw a European royal figure wearing a dress similar to their final look to a wedding this year, so the dress definitely fit the criteria of European royalty. Laurent also brought fabric from home, and it was a good choice to use it in this challenge. I’m so glad they fixed that dress after Christian looked at it initially because it was giving ice skater, and not in a good way. While I don’t think I would wear it, I enjoyed looking at it going down the runway, and the high collar and cape was dramatic. I also liked the fact that it felt light and airy in contrast to some of the looks.
Anna and Britney were misyoked from the beginning. Britney wanted more say in how the dress looked while Anna insisted on treating her like she was her own seamstress rather than a partner. I hate to say this because I was such a fan beforehand, but Anna is really off-putting this season. I know they’re all critical of each others work, but the way she was banging on about Laurent and Kara Saun’s outfit in the workroom was really sour grapes. The mismatch showed in their final look as well. It was a perfectly serviceable “princess” dress with absolutely nothing else to offer. It also looked oddly bulky?
The judges had a very hard decision this week, and it boiled down to the fact that while boring and ill-fitting, Anna and Britney dress looked like something royalty would wear. On the other hand, Viktor and Kanye dress went into costume territory, and the reason why it went there was because of the metal bustier, head cap, and embellishments that was all Viktor; Kanye did the bulk of the work on that amazing dress underneath. It sucks as I wanted to see more of Viktor’s work. (and there’s someone else I wanted to go home) but it is what it is.
The challenges this season have been great! Looking forward to next week when the designers have to create outfits from the same bolt of cloth.

Agree with others that Anna should have given the boot last episode. Loved these looks and I agree, Kao that Hester and Fabio's look should have scored higher. LOVED it. It reminded me of how Thom Browne plays with plaids and gender norms. But very happy with the winning look. Outstanding.
