Season 2 Episode 5 & 6 - Flip or Flop Atlanta - Oct 25, 2018
S02 E05 · Go Bigger or Go Home - I didn't realize 600 sq ft could be so big as they added an addition to a 900 sq ft home. I liked what they did expect for two pet peeves, the cracked driveway, the crooked concrete or stone pad at the base of the front stairs to the house and two many chandeliers in the open concept living/dining/kitchen area. They had a chandelier over the living are, another chandelier over the dining area, and two huge pendants over the kitchen island. It TOO much in such an open space to the point in looks small and closed in. Do one chandelier and that's it.
S02 E06 · The Cabin in the Woods - this was cute and I liked what they did better than the previous house. The siding made the house look brand new. Liked they kept some of the wood paneling and the back yard with the fire pit really looked a part of the home.

I liked most of what they did and especially loved the coffee bar; I want one in my kitchen. I agree they needed to fix the cracked driveway and concrete at base of stairs. No one has mentioned it here but I think Anita's voice is eerily similar to that of Joanna Gaines.

Well, shoot. I finished up what I was doing last night and happily sat down to watch Desert Flippers, only to see that they weren't on. All those new episodes went so fast! I'm ready for some new Good Bones or Home Town shows...House Hunters sort of lost me somewhere along the way, I just don't care to watch it anymore.

I watch HH International for the shows where the renters/homeowners have actually done research into what type of housing is in the area they're moving to and don't have a fit when a 150 year old Italian villa doesn't have a dishwasher, or the Mexican casa doesn't come with a swimming pool. It's best when everyone is excited about the move and uses the whole process as a teachable moment. I especially like the realtor lady in Paris because she's really blunt and to the point about people's expectations. No, you're not getting a one bedroom in the Marais for $1500. No, you're not getting that huge kitchen in an apartment with "Parisian charm" for less than 750k. My second fav is the realtor in Amsterdam who flatly tells people "Stairs are a way of life here. Either live in a garden apartment, or don't move here."
Dislikes: Whiners, people wanting huge kitchens and bedrooms in Europe, people who go to Mexico/South America to "experience culture" then only want to look at gated communities where everyone looks like them and speaks English, people who move to the biggest cities in Asia and then complain about noise, etc.

I also enjoy Richard Blanco, the London realtor.

Is he the one with the beard? He's another one who is good for letting stupid people have it. Interesting enough, I was watching an episode on demand in London that said prices have dropped on houses due to "current events" and due to less demand rental prices have also gone down.

Season 2 Episode 7 & 8 - Flip or Flop Atlanta - Nov 1, 2018
S02 E07 · This Old Boarding House - The house did look amazing afterwards. Liked the navy blue house color with the white columns. Really liked the industrial grunge look of the kitchen. Liked the charcoal gray distressed look of the cabinets. Even liked the lighting over the island and in the kitchen, however the lighting in the dinning room, and hallways again was too much to close and too different from each other and took away from the overall look of the house. There were some really strange soffits in the basement.
S02 E08 · Trash or Treasure
This was a nasty hoarder house with a caved in roof and black mold. Ow. I was surprised they kept the original doors to the house but I guess a bit of paint fixed that problem. Painting the window trim that dark brown alluded to the new trend in black frames and actually looked good. Still wished they had power washed the driveway. I did notice when Anita and her husband walked the staged house and lated during the Open House the knobs on the kitchen cabinets would appear and disappear through out the scenes. It was funny. I did think that kitchen was a tad dark and did need under cabinet lighting at least on the cabinets either side of the stove.

Flip or Flop: I saw that dirty, cracked driveway on the second episode and laughed. Why do all that work and leave the concrete so nasty? Oh well...the home itself turned out nice. I can't believe someone did that to that poor house, it was beyond filthy.
The boarding house was just a mess. I really liked the kitchen, but it seemed so small for a house that size. Wasn't that thing over 2700 sq. ft?

When I first saw that backsplash I was telling them to wipe off the grout before it dried, dummies - but that wasn't grout. I tried to get a pic of it from HGTV's crummy little video...you might have to open it in another tab and blow it up.

That was my thoughts and I also thought it looked unfinished but as for the rest of the house it was ok.

Wasn't that thing over 2700 sq. ft? While the boarding house was 2700 sq ft half (1350sq ft) of that was in the in the basement and it seemed all bedrooms and additional bathroom. They also had one or two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs in addition to the living room, dining room and kitchen. If they reduced the number bedrooms upstairs I do think that would have impacted the look and feel of the house as it did look small. If you only look at the main floor it is a 1350 sq ft home.

Flip or Flop Atlanta - hey, they replaced the whole driveway! Really, they had to...the dumpsters tore the old one to pieces. Cute little house, I loved the chunky floating shelves in the entrance and the bathroom tile was nice. I even liked the honey colored cabinets, they fit well with the black backsplash and hardware.

The 150 square feet they added on really made a big difference as did flipping the kitchen from the back to the front of the house. I wasn't quite sure about the black backsplash with the lighter cabinetry but when it was all done I did think it looked really nice, especially with the black pulls. They paid like 99K or thereabouts for the small house and sunk 91K into it. They were saying the comps for the area were around 220K and they were bemoaning the fact that that was not enough of a profit for them. I'd like to know exactly how long these flips last. In the opening intro to each show they mention something to the effect that they have flipped over 700 houses. If an average flip is 8 weeks and they make 30K or so each flip, I'd say they are bringing in a decent amount of money yearly. Of course that is not counting the revenue brought in from having their own television show. They decided to list at a much higher price b/c no homes in the area had that front porch with window boxes and pergola. Not sure that justified how much more they listed for but in the end it got them their desired price.

I thought the kitchen was tiny in their flip last night. I hate a sink or range top in an island. They didn't have much choice in this house because of the size. Wasn't sold on the pergola either. Was glad they replaced the driveway. All in all I think the price for the area was a good one.

I wonder if they can possibly get in trouble for basically creating a third bedroom without upgrading the septic system, and then simply staging it differently and winking to potential buyers that it's an "extra room". But I'm sure it's one of a thousand loopholes that builders/realtors can use.

But I'm sure it's one of a thousand loopholes that builders/realtors can use. I think it would depend on where the lines were located and also where the tank itself was. If accessible to hook into it then they may be able to get by with it.

Flip or Flop Atlanta - Season 2 Episode 9 - 99 Problems But a Comp Ain't One - Nov 8, 2018
I didn't get the size of the house and even with the addition I thought it was weird how they added the addition and went around the third bedroom. Wouldn't have been better to make the Master bedroom a rectangle and re-frame the third bedroom a bit of make it the master bathroom. Or was it added value to add a 4th bedroom. Did they do anything with the basement they didn't show it as it definitely had a very small door and steep stairs. With the addition it looked as if they added square footage to the basement. Why did we not see that?
After staging the house seemed small.
Glad they fixed the driveway.
The stones to the front thehouse seemed kinda dinky.
The paint job on the pergola looked crappy. You could see the cracks in the wood.
Liked the kitchen back splash.
Hate the refrigerator next to the wall like that, how can you open the left door fully without banging the handle in to the wall? Awkward.
Liked the master bathroom, the black vanity, the slightly recessed vessel sinks, I do like those, the tile floor and tile area rug were nice.

Mmmhmmm.
So much for the "we want to leave TV so our kids will grow up normal" or whatever old chestnuts they came up with when they decided to not continue Fixer Upper. And it's almost been a year since they announced leaving; so enough time for the pesky "non-compete" clause in their contract to be up. Ambition is admirable, but you don't have to lie about it. :/
edit: Apparently Discovery (the network that they're going to) owns HGTV. Hmmm...
